Kolkata Gang Rape Accused To Be Produced In Court Today, Cops May Seek Extension Of Custody
Last Updated: Though the accused continue to deny allegations, police sources say that the evidence and witness statements collected so far substantiate the victim's complaint The four accused in the South Calcutta Law College gang rape case will be produced in court on Tuesday and police are likely to seek an extension of their custody. The Commissioner of Police visited Kasba Police Station on Monday to review the progress of the investigation in the case that has once again brought the spotlight on crimes against women in the city. The commissioner held a two-hour meeting with officers of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and issued detailed guidelines on how the investigation should proceed, sources told CNN-News18. The development comes after the 24-year-old law student accused three people— alumnus Monojit Mishra and current students Pratim Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed—of sexually assaulting her in the college security guard's room on June 25. The fourth accused, the security guard, was taken into custody on Saturday. The college has been closed indefinitely for now. So far, the survivor has been taken to the scene of the crime, where she described the events of that day. Her statement has also been recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 and she has undergone medical examination twice. The clothes worn by both the accused and the survivor on the day of the incident have been collected as evidence. Police sources say the woman's complaint is being substantiated by the evidence collected so far. In her complaint, the survivor alleged that the prime accused filmed her and blackmailed her with the video. The accused's mobile phone has been recovered, and it contains the video, corroborating her allegations. Additionally, CCTV footage from June 25 clearly shows that the woman was prevented from leaving the premises. Police sources also say that the survivor had written in her complaint that she had asked for an inhaler as she was feeling breathless. Investigation has confirmed this after police spoke to the medical shop owner. Police have started questioning students who were present in college that day. Though the accused continue to deny allegations, police sources say that the evidence and witness statements collected so far substantiate the victim's complaint. First Published:

Man booked for killing sister for 'honour'
Police on Thursday registered a case against a man and his two accomplices for allegedly killing his sister and injuring brother-in-law over a love marriage in the jurisdiction of Taxila Police Station. According to the police, Aamir Shehzad stated in his complaint that he works at a cardboard factory in Karachi and is a permanent resident of Attock. He had contracted a court marriage with 24-year-old Iqra Bibi some time ago. On Wednesday, after recording statements under Section 164 at the Taxila court, he was traveling in a rickshaw with his wife Iqra Bibi, mother Naseem Bibi, and sister Nosheen Bibi to visit a relative's house near Bara Phatak. During the course of time, three armed motorcyclists — Talal Shah, his employee Abbas, and an unidentified accomplice — forced their rickshaw to stop. Talal opened fire on Iqra, who was fatally injured and died on the spot. Abbas allegedly shot and injured Aamir Shehzad, while his sister Nosheen Bibi managed to save herself by taking shelter in a nearby shop.

Minor alters statement in case against ex-min's son
Patna: The allegations against Mukesh Sahni, son of former minister Ramashray Sahni, took a dramatic turn on Monday as the 17-year-old minor at the centre of the case continued to alter her statements. What began as a case of kidnapping and rape has now shifted to charges of molestation. The matter drew widespread attention when the girl went missing on Friday night and was located by police on Saturday evening. Her statement was recorded in a Samastipur court under Section 164 on Monday and her medical examination was conducted at sadar hospital, police said. According to the FIR, the victim claimed she was forcibly taken by Mukesh and his driver, Raghubir, while stepping out of her home. She alleged that they took her to several places and harassed her before leaving her at an isolated spot. An audio clip later surfaced in which she apologised to her parents, saying she was running away because Mukesh had allegedly filmed and sexually assaulted her. However, she later altered her statement to allegations of molestation. Samastipur ASP Sanjay Pandey said it was essential to record the girl's statement under Section 164 before a magistrate. The police are still awaiting the court-issued copy. An FIR under the POCSO Act has been filed against Mukesh and Raghubir. The driver has already been arrested and sent to jail, he said. "The former minister has denied the allegations, claiming his son is being framed in a political conspiracy. According to him, his driver saw the girl in a suspicious situation with another boy named Anshu and recorded a video. He maintained his son's innocence and cooperated with the police investigation," the ASP said.
