The ceremony was attended by Chan's family and a few close friends, who joined the former TVB star in saying their last goodbyes. After the farewell, Ai Wai, 66, returned to Sheung Sze Wan Beach, the place he once lived with Chan. Speaking to Hong Kong's Headline Daily , Ai Wai shared that he chose a sea burial as a nod to how their love story began – the couple first met while swimming. 'When my time comes, I want a sea burial too. I live by the sea and go for runs along the beach every morning. It feels like I can still connect with her through the ocean,' he said. Asked whether he had any final words left unsaid, Ai Wai replied in the negative, adding that he had already said everything that needed to be said. The actor also shared a moving moment from the farewell ceremony: 'As I prepared to scatter her ashes, I forgot they were placed inside an extra bag. 'I was trying to find the right wind direction to gently release them into the sea, but the entire bag fell into the water. It reminded me of how she fell ill and left so suddenly. It caught me off guard.' Ai Wai admitted to feeling 'very emotionally unstable' since Chan's passing. However, knowing his wife wouldn't want him to live in sorrow, he's determined to move forward with strength. 'My main goal now is to find happiness again. It's not easy. Anyone who's been through a similar situation would understand,' he said. For the record, Ai Wai married Chan in 2002. The couple separated in 2020 but reconciled on the 2022 reality show See You Again 2 . Chan passed away at the age of 61 on May 18 from liver disease. She died in hospital while awaiting transplant.

HONG KONG: Veteran actor Ai Wai, 66, has spoken candidly about the emotional distress he's been experiencing since his wife, Lisa Chan, 61, passed away from liver disease on May 18. In an interview with East Week magazine, Ai Wai disclosed that his emotions have been volatile following Chan's death. "After Lisa passed away, I didn't know how to face it at first," he said. The actor managed to maintain his composure during Chan's funeral on June 15. However, he was overcome with tears when the production team from the 2022 reality programme See You Again 2 brought the couple's handwritten journals from the show to be laid to rest alongside Chan. "The more you love someone, the more painful life becomes without them," he said. Despite the pain, Ai Wai knew he had to keep going and channel his grief into strength. He holds the belief that Chan hasn't truly left him. "I feel like she's still here. Just like in the movies, she'll stay by my side for a while until she's ready to move on to another realm. Thinking of it that way brings me comfort." The actor also shared that he still "hears" her voice when making simple daily decisions. "I woke up one morning and heard Lisa's voice. She still talks to me in my heart and gives me advice," he said.

In an interview with East Week magazine, Ai Wai, 66, revealed that his emotions have been unstable in the aftermath of Chan's death. 'After Lisa passed away, I didn't know how to face it at first. I thought time would heal everything, but the emotions still hit me out of nowhere,' he said. The actor shared that he managed to hold himself together during Chan's funeral at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom on June 15. However, he broke down in tears when the production team behind the 2022 reality programme See You Again 2 brought the couple's handwritten journals from the show to be laid to rest alongside Chan. The aforementioned show held deep significance for the couple, as it was where they reconciled after separating in 2020. They had been married since 2002. 'The more you love someone, the more painful life becomes (without them). That pain doesn't just fade away,' added the former TVB star. Despite the pain, Ai Wai knew he had to keep moving forward and channel his grief into strength. He believes that Chan hasn't truly left him, saying: 'I feel like she's still here. Just like in the movies, she'll stay by my side for a while until she's ready to move on to another realm. Thinking of it that way brings me comfort.' The actor also added that he still 'hears' her voice when making simple decisions in his daily life. 'I woke up one morning and was torn between going out for dim sum or staying home for oatmeal. I heard Lisa's voice and just knew she would tell me to go with the oatmeal. She still talks to me in my heart and gives me advice,' he said.
