RIDICULOUS, it will only create ..., says Donald Trump on Elon Musk's America Party
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially launched a new political party called the America Party. However, US President Donald Trump has completely dismissed Elon Musk's newly launched political unit. Calling the America Party 'ridiculous', Trump said that creation of a new party will only create confusion, chaos and disruption in the American political system. US President Donald Trump calls Elon Musk's America Party a RIDICULOUS idea Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One, Trump said, 'It's always been a two-party system. Starting a third party just adds to confusion. Third parties have never worked. He can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous.' He emphasised the Republican Party's recent legislative victories and called it a 'smooth-running machine,' contrasting it with what he described as Musk's 'train wreck' of a political venture. Donald Trump also posted on Truth Social about Elon Musk's America Party Trump also shared a post on Truth Social criticising Musk's America Party. 'I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,' wrote Trump. He also accused the Tesla CEO of undermining Republican unity and reignited controversy over Musk's alleged attempts to influence NASA leadership appointments. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Are Watching Tariffs - Few Are Watching What Nvidia Just Launched Seeking Alpha Read More Undo Read Donald Trump's complete post here I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely 'off the rails,' essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States - The System seems not designed for them. The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds! Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running 'machine,' that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country. It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time. I have been strongly opposed to that from the very beginning. People are now allowed to buy whatever they want - Gasoline Powered, Hybrids (which are doing very well), or New Technologies as they come about - No more EV Mandate. I have campaigned on this for two years and, quite honestly, when Elon gave me his total and unquestioned Endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate - It was in every speech I made, and in every conversation I had. He said he had no problems with that - I was very surprised! Additionally, Elon asked that one of his close friends run NASA and, while I thought his friend was very good, I was surprised to learn that he was a blue blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before. Elon probably was, also. I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elon's corporate life. My Number One charge is to protect the American Public! Tesla CEO Elon Musk created a new political party Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially launched a new political party called the America Party. Musk posted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) about the creation of the new political outfit. ' By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.' The announcement followed a user poll on X, where over 65% of respondents supported the idea of a new party. CIA radios and yak butter, and hours to spare: How a 23-year-old monk outwitted the Dragon empire
Picture this: Lhasa, March 1959. Bitter cold. Gunfire echoing through the hills. A 23-year-old monk steps out of his summer palace dressed as a low-ranking guard. Except he's not just any monk, he's the 14th Dalai Lama , spiritual and political heartbeat of Tibet . The stakes? Life or death. Freedom or capture. And a whole nation's fate balancing on his young shoulders. An invitation that smelled like a trap It didn't happen overnight. China's grip on Tibet had been tightening since 1950. The Seventeen Point Agreement was meant to guarantee Tibetan autonomy under Chinese sovereignty. On paper, it did. In reality? 'It may happen that here in Tibet, religion and government will be attacked both from without and from within,' the 13th Dalai Lama had warned decades earlier, as recorded by The Tibet Journal in 2008. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Are Watching Tariffs - Few Are Watching What Nvidia Just Launched Seeking Alpha Read More Undo By 1959, the attacks were no longer just feared. They were daily life. Then came the so-called invitation. Chinese General Zhang Chenwu asked the Dalai Lama to attend a dance show at military HQ. The catch? 'No guards.' Tibetans knew exactly what that meant. Abduction. Or worse. Live Events On 10 March 1959, tens of thousands of Tibetans surrounded Norbulingka Palace, forming a human barricade. Clashes with Chinese soldiers flared. Shells rained down. The State Oracle was consulted, three times. His advice: 'Leave. Now.' Slipping into the night On 17 March, just before 10pm, the Dalai Lama, disguised in a soldier's uniform, slipped through the palace gates. He was joined by his mother, siblings, tutors, senior ministers. 'A few minutes before 10 o'clock in the evening, His Holiness, disguised as an ordinary soldier, slipped past the massive throng of people along with a small escort,' noted TIME back then. They crossed the Kyichu River, slipped into the Himalayas, travelling by night, hiding by day. There were no detailed maps. Only whispered directions, local guides, and prayers. According to folklore, monks' prayers conjured clouds and mist that hid them from Chinese planes. Maybe true, maybe not, but they made it. A letter and a line crossed By 26 March, the Dalai Lama reached Lhuntse Dzong, days away from India's border. He wrote to India's Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru , 'Ever since Tibet went under the control of Red China... I, my Government officers and citizens have been trying to maintain peace... but the Chinese Government has been gradually subduing the Tibetan Government.' Then he asked for asylum: 'In this critical situation we are entering India via Tsona... I hope that you will please make necessary arrangements for us.' Nehru's gamble Back in Delhi, Nehru had his own storm to weather. Welcoming the Dalai Lama meant infuriating Beijing. Defence Minister V K Krishna Menon and others were sceptical. But Nehru held his ground. 'The Dalai Lama had to undertake a very big and difficult journey and the circumstances of the journey were also painful to the Dalai Lama,' Nehru told Parliament later. 'So it is only proper that the Dalai Lama should get an opportunity in a peaceful atmosphere to consult his colleagues... and get over the mental strain.' On 31 March, the Dalai Lama and his party crossed the McMahon Line at Khenzimane Pass in present-day Arunachal Pradesh. Havildar Naren Chandra Das of the Assam Rifles saluted the exhausted young monk. Decades later, in 2017, the Dalai Lama told the ageing soldier: 'Looking at your face, I now realise I must be very old too... Thank you very much.' A new home in the hills From the Assam Rifles post at Chutangmu, the Dalai Lama was taken to Tawang Monastery , then Tezpur in Assam. There, on 18 April, he spoke for the first time on Indian soil. He condemned China's aggression. He thanked India. And he set the record straight: 'The Dalai Lama wishes to categorically state that he left Lhasa and Tibet and came to India of his own free will and not by force.' China fumed. Demanded his return. Nehru refused. By 1960, the Dalai Lama had settled in McLeodganj , Dharamshala, what would become 'Little Lhasa', home to Tibet's government-in-exile. Schools, monasteries, cultural centres rose from scratch. In 1989, the Dalai Lama received the Nobel Peace Prize for his nonviolent struggle. Today he's 90. Still living in Dharamshala. Still speaking of compassion and dialogue. Still a thorn in Beijing's side. China's grip on Tibet has only tightened, but so has Tibetan identity in exile. Looking back, it started with a suspicious invite. A young monk slipping away in the dark. And a journey through snow and fear to a fragile freedom on the other side of the Himalayas.

Walmart CFO talks private brand, delivery growth
This story was originally published on Grocery Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Grocery Dive newsletter. As Walmart looks to broaden its grocery assortment, private brands are playing a major role, the company's CFO said at a recent conference. In particular, the company is seeing success with its Bettergoods grocery line, which launched last year and focuses on trendy and affordable items. 'Bettergoods has been a big success story for us,' John David Rainey, executive vice president and CFO of Walmart, said at the Oppenheimer Consumer Growth & E-Commerce Conference early this month, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript. The brand features approximately 400 items and has racked up almost $500 million in sales, Rainey said, noting that roughly 70% of that brand's items are priced below $5. 'What's exciting to me about this is 40% of the customers that buy a Bettergood[s] item are coming back as repeat customers. … I think it really speaks to the quality of the overall assortment,' Rainey said. Along with improving its stance on fresh foods, Walmart is also focused on convenience for its customers, he added. Pharmacy delivery, which is available at the majority of the retailer's stores, is promoting 'sticky behavior' among customers, Rainey said. Last fall, Walmart launched same-day pharmacy delivery nationwide. '[With] pharmacy delivery, we can easily provide the opportunity for customers to add in additional food items or add in general merchandise or maybe there's other items within the pharmacy that they want to have delivered … and there's no company that can do all three of those: [general merchandise], food and pharmacy,' he said. E-commerce, especially delivery, is another key growth driver for the company. Reliable and fast delivery is the 'single most compelling part of the value proposition' for its Walmart+ membership program, Rainey said. Walmart is encouraged by consumers' willingness to pay for speedier delivery. Walmart has almost doubled the number of deliveries done in under three hours from the first quarter of last year, Rainey said. In recent weeks, express delivery has accounted for as much as 40% of delivery orders, he said, noting that this quick delivery option accounted for one-third of delivery orders in the company's most recent quarter. 'We continue to see that customers are willing to actually pay for that expedited delivery,' he said. How Sam's Club sees fresh food, digital tools fueling its ambitious growth plans
As Walmart-owned Sam's Club undergoes a growth spurt, with plans to double its sales, profit and membership in the next eight to 10 years, the club retailer's CFO said convenience, fresh food and omnichannel offerings play key roles. "[W]e've really invested heavily and focused on improving convenience and improving experience, and every trend we see with consumers is they want that," Todd Sears, senior vice president and CFO of Sam's Club, said at the Evercore Consumer & Retail Conference earlier this month, based on a Seeking Alpha transcript. Sam's Club has already increased its sales by 50% over the last five years, with the COVID-19 pandemic serving as a "shot of adrenaline," Sears said, noting this growth was "purely organic" as sales increased while the company maintained roughly the same number of locations. Over the same five-year period, Sam's Club has also seen its member base grow 33%, he added. As the retailer looks to continue growing organically, it is remodeling all of its clubs to give shoppers a "consistent elevated experience throughout," Sears said. Sam's Club is still working toward its previously stated target of opening 30 clubs over the next five years, Sear said, noting the club retailer plans to be able to open 15 clubs annually, though he did not specify when this would be. New locations will open in markets where there is a "good enough addressable market" so the company can achieve its "average member base" within a few years of opening, he said. "In real estate, it takes a while to build up a pipeline and get going," Sears said. Fresh foods and both online and in-store digital tools are serving as key areas that the club retailer is looking to hook consumers with and make shopping at Sam's Club more convenient, Sears said. The importance of fresh food Fresh food continues to be a traffic driver for Sam's Club's business, Sears said. "It's where the member assesses quality immediately, and they can tell that difference. And so in a lot of clubs, we've already remodeled our fresh area, but those we have not, we needed to get it up to the same standard that we have in our best clubs around fresh," Sears said. During the company's most recent quarter, its comparable-store sales increased nearly 7%, growth that is "pretty healthy in retail" and was primarily driven by fresh food purchases and health and wellness products, Sears said. Sushi is one of the key fresh food areas for the club. Sam's Club has sushi displays and a sushi chef in 581 of its 600 clubs, Sears said. As the club remodels locations, it's making sure that the sushi chef is "front and center," he said. "It adds this theater," Sears said. "Sushi is a big traffic driver. [It's] one of the reasons why people come all the time, and the quality of it is excellent." Keeping prices consistent for important fresh items is another area where Sam's Club aims to differentiate itself from competitors. The retailer has not raised prices on pineapples and bananas even though those items are imported, Sears said. Instead, the chain focused on reducing spoilage and waste as a way to offset any cost increases it may feel from tariff-related price hikes, he said. Building out digital capabilities in-store and online As Sam's Club leans into convenience, omnichannel retailing is playing an increasingly important role, Sears said. "We believe the future of club retail is omni," Sears said. "And so that's why we are investing heavily in omni." Sam's Club's online shopping app is migrating to the same platform that the Walmart app uses, which will help create a seamless experience for consumers who are already familiar with Walmart's app, Sears said. The migration started a few weeks ago and is scheduled to be completed in a couple of months, he said. Sam's Club is seeing success with its in-store technology deployments. Scan & Go accounted for 35% of sales during the company's most recent quarter, up 600 basis points from a year ago, Sears said - "tremendous growth in a technology now that's 9 years old." Meanwhile, the retailer's computer vision solution for automated receipt checking is cutting down on labor at the exit, reducing shrink and making it faster for consumers to leave the store, Sears said. The technology can check twice as many items and has identified 17% more unpaid items than manual checks, Sears said. While some items, like alcohol, require manual checks, the majority of purchases can go through the exit arches, cutting down the time they spend in-store, Sears said. E-commerce accounts for 17% of Sam's Club's sales, excluding fuel, up 300 basis points from a year ago, and the digital channel saw sales increase 27% in the latest quarter, Sears said. While most of the chain's e-commerce sales are curbside pickup, members are also using the other channels, he noted. "Curbside pickup and shipping have been growing pretty consistently for a number of years. However, delivery has been what's really taken off as of late," with that channel growing 160% year-over-year in the latest quarter, Sears said. The club retailer's newly launched pizza delivery is introducing members to the delivery channel, Sears said, noting that the service "has exceeded our expectations." "What's surprising is the average order value of a pizza order is 10X the price of the pizza, so people are adding other things to the basket," Sears said. "The other thing that is interesting is that a significant percentage of the total orders, members are choosing to pay for it for delivery through express. … The value on the pizza is so big. They're willing to pay that extra money to have it delivered that much faster." The need-it-now desire for the pizza is driving some consumers to try delivery and the express delivery options for the first time, Sears said. "When you have this total omni offering, again, it's allowing the members to choose how, where and when they want to shop," Sears said. "It all kind of works together." Copyright 2025 Industry Dive.
