Official's error costs India likely medal
BENGALURU: A shocking error by a team official accompanying the Indian squad has allegedly denied a promising Indian athlete a likely podium finish at the FISU World University Games now on in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. Seema, one of India's rising long-distance runners, had trained hard and was all set to start Monday's women's 10,000m final when she realised to her horror that her name was missing from the start list. She alerted the Indian team officials, who were also shocked at the turn of events. 'It appears that while reconfirming the participation of the athletes to the organisers, through the electronic data sheet, the athletics official at the venue clicked the wrong box. There were two boxes — participating and not participating — and the official could have ticked the wrong box,' sources told TOI. As per the entry list, the 24-year-old had clocked a personal and season best time of 32:14.66s. 'It's a matter of shame that our athletes' names are not there. Athletes from Pakistan and Sri Lanka are in the start list. Three of us were to compete in the 10,000m — Anjali Devi , Nirmala and me — but our names were missing from the start list,' Seema told TOI. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Lehlohonolo Seema returns home as Siwelele rise from the ashes
In a twist seemingly scripted for the romance of South African football, Lehlohonolo Seema has returned to where it all began — not to marshal the defence, but to call the shots from the dugout. The former Bloemfontein Celtic captain has been appointed head coach of Siwelele FC, the newly formed side rising from the purchase of SuperSport United's Betway Premiership status. Pending league approval, the team will relocate to the Free State capital, where football hearts have long ached for the return of their beloved green and white. For Seema, this is more than just a coaching job. It's home. It's a legacy. Since retiring, Seema has taken the scenic route to Bloemfontein's technical area — weathering boardroom chaos at Chippa United, pushing young talent at Golden Arrows, and steering Sekhukhune United into the Top 4 before a surprise parting of ways in March this year.

On woman's dying declaration, hubby, in-laws sentenced for life in dowry case in Noida
Noida: Three members of a family have been sentenced to life imprisonment in a 2018 dowry death, relying on the death declaration of the deceased by an additional sessions-cum-fast-track court-1 in GB Nagar on Friday. The husband and his parents were also fined Rs 23,000 each for torturing the woman and killing her. The case was registered by Abrar Khan, brother of the deceased woman Seema, on Aug 17, 2018, at Jevar police station under sections 307 and 498A of IPC. Khan, in his complaint, stated that his sister Seema was tortured by her husband and in-laws for bringing more dowry. "Late on the night of Aug 16, we got information from my sister's neighbour that she had got burnt and was being taken to Medical College Aligarh for treatment. When we reached there, she told us that her husband Gul Mohammad alias Gullu, her father-in-law Nasim Khan, and mother-in-law Sabra Begum, along with other family members Samina, Farzana, Ikram, and Nubin, tried to kill her by setting her on fire," he stated in the complaint given to the police. After the woman's death on Aug 26, police converted the sections to 302 IPC, and the district court took cognizance against three persons, including the husband and his parents, on Feb 13, 2019. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Weather Tomorrow search Click Here Undo The case was then transferred to the additional sessions cum fast-track court-1 on Jan 25, 2021. Khan refused to acknowledge his own complaint and said that his sister never complained of dowry being demanded, while other prosecution witnesses, including the father, other brothers, and sister-in-law, tried to assert that after the incident, she was burnt to an extent that giving any statement was not possible. Assistant district govt counsel , Bhag Singh Bhati, said that when the dying declaration was read out in court, it was evident that her husband had poured kerosene oil on her body and set her on fire. Citing various SC judgements, the court noted that the dying declaration must inspire confidence so as to make it safe to act upon. Whether it is safe to act upon a dying declaration depends not only on the testimony of the person recording the dying declaration but also on all the material available on record and the circumstances, including the medical evidence. It further noted that the complaint given by the deceased and the dying declaration recorded by the executive magistrate and the history before the doctor is consistent and seems to be trustworthy, and accordingly declared the accused as guilty. Judge Sourabh Dwivedi declared the trio guilty under sections 498A (cruelty against a woman by her husband or relatives) and 302 (murder) of IPC and sentenced them to three years of additional rigorous imprisonment with under section 498A of IPC. Both sentences will be served concurrently.
