No Malaysians Recruited Into Bangladeshi-Linked Militant Network

KUALA BERANG, June 29 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has confirmed that no Malaysians were recruited into a foreign militant network linked to Bangladeshi nationals, which was recently uncovered by authorities. He said investigations by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Special Branch revealed that the group, which aimed to spread extremist ideology rooted in Islamic State (IS) beliefs, involved only Bangladeshi nationals. 'Their activities were focused on violent extremism with the objective of toppling the government in their country of origin (Bangladesh),' he said. Saifuddin was speaking to reporters after launching the Kampung Angkat MADANI and Sekolah Angkat MADANI programmes under the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) 2025 initiative at the Hulu Terengganu District Council Hall here. 'It is important to inform the public that our security forces are on high alert. If such activities are not addressed firmly, they could pose a serious threat to national security,' he added. Saifuddin had earlier revealed that police dismantled the foreign militant network with the arrest of 36 Bangladeshi nationals suspected of direct involvement in the radical movement. The arrests were made in a three-phase security operation in Selangor and Johor starting April 24. In another development, Saifuddin said the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) will soon undergo restructuring to enhance its effectiveness, with the Royal Malaysia Police taking the lead, supported by other key agencies. 'Previously, four agencies, the police, Bank Negara, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and others, shared oversight of the NSRC which led to certain operational shortcomings. 'Under the new structure, the police will directly receive scam reports, record the necessary details, and notify the relevant banks immediately to freeze the victim's account. Efforts to recover stolen funds will follow promptly,' he said.

MOE launches 1,000 Sekolah Angkat MADANI for digital skills

KLUANG: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to producing students skilled in digital technology through the implementation of the Sekolah Angkat MADANI initiative, which involves 1,000 pilot schools nationwide. Its secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim said the effort aligns with the rapid development of technology, a crucial foundation for propelling Malaysia towards developed nation status. 'Through this initiative, pupils and students will be exposed to technology-based learning, which will strengthen their skills in using gadgets and digital devices before they move on to higher education,' he said after launching the MOE Secretary-General's Sekolah Angkat MADANI initiative at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Kampung Tengah here today. He said of the 1,000 schools announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week, a total of 790 primary and secondary schools have been identified for the initial phase of the initiative. The ministry has also held discussions with the Ministry of Finance, as well as industry and corporate players, to enhance digital-related needs, including in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), he said. Aminuddin further said that to date, more than 50 industry and corporate leaders, including government-linked companies (GLCs), have pledged their commitment to supporting the programme. Focus is also being placed on future-oriented learning such as artificial intelligence (AI). He said the implementation of the initiative focuses on five key pillars – upgrading school infrastructure and facilities, strengthening academic programmes, teacher training and development, financial assistance, and the provision of scholarships for students.

Kg Inderasabah Receives RM1 Mln Under MADANI Village Adoption Programme

TAWAU, April 22 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Finance has allocated RM1 million to the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) under the MADANI Village Adoption programme in Kampung Inderasabah, to enhance the well-being of the local community. ESSCOM chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Ali, said the initiative encompasses infrastructure development as well as safety and security measures. 'We have identified seven projects to upgrade Kampung Inderasabah, which include improving street lighting, upgrading the village jetty and enhancing overall security. An additional RM200,000 has been allocated for education and technical and vocational training programmes,' he said. 'Based on intelligence from ESSCOM's Security Division, the area is exposed to cross-border criminal activities such as fuel smuggling and piracy,' he told reporters after the Kampung Angkat MADANI central committee meeting chaired by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, here today. Jamaluddin noted that Kampung Inderasabah holds economic potential and the advantage of a united community, adding that if the model proves successful, the programme could be extended to other areas within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone. ESSCOM will also implement the Sekolah Angkat MADANI programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Lihak-Lihak in Semporna, with an allocation of RM100,000, said Jamaluddin. Meanwhile, Nizam, who is also Apas assemblyman, expressed confidence that the initiative would positively impact Kampung Inderasabah, which falls within his constituency. 'This programme will add value to the village's security and socio-economic status, as it's a hotspot, located along the maritime borders with Indonesia and the Philippines. 'This initiative stems from the vision of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who aspires to engage all communities through coordinated services provided by government agencies,' he added.
