Shah Alam organiser summoned by MAIS over immoral acts in 2022
SHAH ALAM: The organiser of a marital motivation programme, previously flagged for inappropriate content, has resurfaced in controversy after allegations of immoral activities during a session last year. The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) had summoned the organiser in 2022 following complaints about their modules. Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, director of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), confirmed that a former participant had lodged a report in 2022. The organiser was instructed to revise certain modules to align with Islamic principles. However, no reports were filed regarding the recent viral allegations of misconduct at a convention centre in September last year. Mohd Shahzihan stated that JAIS will summon individuals on Tuesday (July 15) to assist in the investigation. The department is collaborating with the police and will probe the matter under Section 7 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995, which addresses false doctrines. 'JAIS takes such matters seriously and will act against any activity contradicting Islamic law and ethical values,' he said. The public is urged to share information via JAIS' hotline at 1800-88-2424 or by visiting their office. - Bernama

Motivational event organiser linked to immoral acts summoned by Mais before in 2022
SHAH ALAM: The organiser of a marital motivation programme, alleged to have conducted immoral activities during a session at a convention centre here, was summoned by the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) three years ago regarding their modules. The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) director, Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, said a former participant of the group's programme lodged a report in 2022, raising concerns regarding the inappropriate modules that the organiser used in the programme. "The organiser was called in by the hearing panel under the Mais Aqidah Control Committee and was instructed to revise several modules to ensure compliance with Islamic principles,' he said in a statement on Saturday (July 12). Shahzihan said that Jais did not receive any report about the alleged immoral activities during one of the group's sessions at a convention centre in September last year, which went viral on social media. However, he said that the department will summon several individuals on Tuesday (July 15) to assist in the investigation and will work closely with the police. He said Jais will conduct an investigation under Section 7 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995 (false doctrine), on suspicion that a ceremony or act related to Islam had taken place which is contrary to Islamic law. "Jais views such matters seriously and will take all necessary measures to prevent and counter any activity that goes against Islamic law and ethical values, which are rejected by all levels of society in Selangor and the country at large,' he said. He also urged the public with information on the programme to contact Jais Enforcement Management Division via its hotline at 1800-88-2424 or to visit the Jais office directly.- Bernama

MAIS reinforces Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah principles in Selangor Islamic affairs
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah principles in the state's Islamic administration, ensuring it remains free from deviant influences. Datuk Salehuddin Saidin, MAIS chairman, stated that the council, alongside the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), the Selangor Mufti Department, and other agencies, will enhance awareness programmes to deepen public understanding of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah creed. 'These efforts include structured Islamic teaching programmes led by certified instructors and religious activities conducted in mosques and suraus,' he said in a statement. Salehuddin highlighted that this initiative aligns with the decree of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Selangor, who stressed the importance of preserving faith purity and legally defining the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah position. 'A strong grasp of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah creed is essential for fostering unity among Muslims,' he added. The Selangor State Legislative Assembly also passed the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) (Amendment) Enactment Bill 2025, which clarifies appointment criteria for MAIS members, ensuring adherence to the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah creed. The amendment aims to prevent individuals with extreme or liberal views from influencing Islamic affairs in Selangor. The Bill was unanimously approved after a debate involving six assemblymen. – Bernama

Two reports lodged against independent preacher for alleged fraud
SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have received two reports against an independent preacher over alleged fraud involving the development of a religious school, involving losses of RM140,000. State police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan (pic) said the reports were lodged in Gombak and Shah Alam by two women in their 40s. "The first victim is the owner of a company who knew the suspect, a local man in his 30s known to be an independent preacher, in 2020," he said in a statement on Sunday (July 6). "The suspect allegedly deceived the victim over the building of a religious school believed to be located in Selangor, to make three deposits totalling RM60,000 from August to September 2020." Comm Hussein said the second woman claimed that she made a payment of RM80,000 around 2019. He said the suspect allegedly used the name of a religious institution to gain the victims' trust. He reminded the public to always verify any requests for donations or investments, especially those involving religious and educational institutions, and not to proceed if their authenticity cannot be confirmed. "Avoid making financial transactions through personal accounts or companies that are not legally registered," he said. On Saturday (July 5), Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said that his team was investigating a case involving the dissemination of pornographic videos by an independent preacher. ACP Iqbal said the investigation was carried out following a police report received from a woman, the second wife of the man in question, on June 16, alleging that the preacher had spread a video of his intimate relationship with his wives and several other women. Meanwhile, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) has revoked the religious teaching credentials of an ustaz who was recently arrested by the police on suspicion of being involved in a criminal case in 2022. MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the individual had also been detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) in September last year for teaching Islam without authorisation. – Bernama

Police investigate religious school fraud cases involving independent preacher
SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have received two reports involving an independent preacher accused of fraud related to a religious school development project. The cases resulted in losses totalling RM140,000. State police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that the reports were filed in Gombak and Shah Alam by two local women in their 40s. The first victim, a company owner, knew the suspect, a man in his 30s, since 2020. 'The suspect deceived the victim regarding the construction of a religious school in Selangor, leading to three transactions amounting to RM60,000 between August and September 2020,' said Hussein. The second victim reportedly paid RM80,000 in 2019. The suspect allegedly used the name of a religious institution to gain trust before securing funds for the school project. Hussein urged the public to remain cautious when dealing with unverified donation or investment requests, particularly those involving religious and educational institutions. 'Avoid financial transactions through unregistered personal or company accounts,' he advised. This development follows recent reports of an independent preacher under investigation for distributing intimate videos. Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed the probe after a report was lodged by the preacher's second wife on June 16. In a related matter, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) revoked the teaching credentials of an ustaz arrested for suspected criminal involvement since 2022. MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin disclosed that the individual was previously detained by JAIS in September 2024 for unauthorised Islamic teachings.
