Influencer ‘CEO Batu' claims trial to possessing lewd content

Social media influencer Iqbal Muhammad was charged at the Selayang magistrates' court. KUALA LUMPUR : Social media influencer 'CEO Batu', charged yesterday with indecently exposing himself to a minor, was today slapped with an additional charge of possessing pornographic material. Iqbal Muhammad, 22, claimed trial to the latest charge at the Selayang magistrates' court. He arrived at court this morning accompanied by several family members and was seen giving a thumbs-up to the media as he entered the courtroom. Iqbal is accused of possessing pornographic videos and images allegedly found on his mobile phone during an inspection at the Gombak district police headquarters at around 11.30am on May 22. He was charged under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of three years' jail, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Magistrate Chai Guan Hock fixed bail at RM3,000 with one surety. Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Birr Zamier Abu Bakar proposed bail at RM6,000. However, Iqbal's lawyer Nabil Ashraff Ridzuan sought to halve the sum, citing financial constraints faced by his client. 'The accused earned about RM3,000 a month as an influencer. But since the case surfaced, he has lost his income as many of his content contracts have been terminated,' he said. Nabil said Iqbal was also supporting his younger brother, who suffers from breathing difficulties, and his 74-year-old grandfather who requires regular check-ups at the National Heart Institute. The court set Sept 30 for mention.

Selayang PKR Youth leaders quit in solidarity with defeated colleagues, says party

PKR Youth deputy chief Izuan Kasim said the resignations of the 13 youth committee members and claims that the wing has been dissolved will be discussed at a coming meeting of the central leadership. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : The 13 Selayang PKR Youth wing committee members who resigned recently had done so in solidarity with their defeated associates in the last division elections, PKR Youth deputy chief Izuan Kasim said. He said he was informed of this at a two-hour meeting with the division's committee and members of the central PKR Youth leadership on Thursday. 'The meeting was held as a platform for the committee members to voice their opinions,' he said. He said the outcome of the meeting, as well as claims that the wing has been dissolved, will also be discussed at a coming meeting of the central leadership. 'It is too early to say that the Selayang PKR Youth wing is officially dissolved. Any dissolution must be confirmed by the central PKR Youth leadership,' he said. It was reported that among those who resigned were the wing's deputy chief, Amir Sahmat, and vice-chief, Lee Fook Onn. Amir had said the resignations were triggered by dissatisfaction over the April 12 youth wing elections, where Tamilarasu Thamil Kalai was declared the division's youth chief. Although there have been claims that the resignations will trigger the wing's dissolution, PKR Youth secretary Omar Mokhtar A Manap emphasised that the wing has not been dissolved. Party secretary-general Fuziah Salleh also dismissed the claims, saying that at least two-thirds, or 18 of the 26 committee members, must resign for the wing to be considered dissolved. 'The total number of elected members is 18, and an additional eight may be appointed, making a maximum of 26. To meet the two-thirds threshold, at least 18 members must resign, Fuziah had said in a statement. 'Firstly, 17 resigned, then three withdrew, followed by another one. The latest figure of those who resigned is 13.'

Fadhlina fires back at Rafizi, defends work as minister

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said every major policy and reform planned for her ministry had been discussed at Cabinet meetings. SELAYANG : Education minister Fadhlina Sidek has hit back at her PKR colleague Rafizi Ramli, who had criticised her ministry for apparently failing to come up with any 'major policy framework' since the government's formation. Fadhlina said every major policy and reform planned for the education ministry had been thoroughly discussed at Cabinet meetings, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. 'We have already tabled the major policy matters, including reforms we want to carry out. 'So there's no such thing as us not doing anything, because everything has already been discussed at the Cabinet meetings,' the Wanita PKR chief told reporters after an event here. Rafizi was part of the Cabinet until June 17. On Friday, Rafizi parried criticism over his resignation as economy minister, saying his critics should train their guns on the education ministry instead for not introducing any major policy framework after two-and-a-half years. The former PKR deputy president argued that he had completed most of his key initiatives during his tenure, including the 13th Malaysia Plan, energy transition, labour market reforms, progressive wage policy, fiscal reforms, targeted subsidies and digital government initiatives. Fadhlina had defended her post as Wanita PKR chief in the party's elections last month, defeating Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, who was aligned with Rafizi. Rafizi meanwhile lost the PKR deputy presidency to Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Ex-Selayang PKR Youth leaders urge party HQ to act after mass resignations

A group of former Selayang PKR Youth leaders has called on the party headquarters to address the fallout from their mass resignations. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Former leaders of Selayang PKR Youth have called for a response from the party headquarters following their mass resignations, claiming the division has effectively ceased to function. Ex-deputy chief Amir Sahmat told FMT that 17 committee members initially resigned in a letter dated May 7, addressed to secretary-general Fuziah Salleh and youth wing secretary Omar Mokhtar A Manap. Although some leaders retracted their resignations following internal appeals, 14 stood firm. Amir Sahmat. 'It's already dissolved. There's no functioning committee. We're just waiting for the central leadership to accept the resignations so that a pro tem committee can be established,' Amir said. He said the group sent three letters to Fuziah on May 7, June 4, and June 18, but had yet to receive a formal response. Amir said the resignations were triggered by dissatisfaction over the April 12 youth wing elections, where Tamilarasu Thamil Kalai was declared the division chief. The outgoing committee members had raised concerns over the vote count and transparency. A protest letter dated April 13 was sent to PKR's central election committee, demanding an internal audit. However, the results were upheld. Citing Clause 7.12 of the PKR constitution and Clause 15.11 of the youth wing's standing orders, the former leaders said a pro tem committee must be formed when two-thirds of a division's committee step down. They urged the party to formally recognise this and reject any actions or statements made by individuals claiming to represent the division since the resignations. In a follow-up letter dated June 14, the group called on the central leadership to clarify the division's status to avoid confusion and prevent invalid decisions. Their position was reiterated in a third letter dated June 18, insisting that the resignations were final and non-negotiable. They also rejected efforts to coax them back, calling such moves 'disrespectful of the grassroots and the party's constitution'. 'This decision was made with full awareness, reflection, and a sense of responsibility, after considering the internal turmoil and ongoing constraints,' the group said in the letter sighted by FMT. When contacted, Fuziah confirmed receiving the complaints and said they had been referred to the youth wing. 'From what I understand, the youth wing has taken action already,' she said. FMT has also reached out to PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim and secretary Omar Mokhtar for comment.

Amirudin confident of staying as MB despite Tengku Zafrul's PKR move

Amirudin Shari believes that Tengku Zafrul Aziz's entry can strengthen PKR. (X pic) PETALING JAYA : Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari says he intends to remain in his post despite speculation that Tengku Zafrul Aziz's anticipated entry into PKR could see a challenge to his position. Amirudin, a PKR vice-president, said the move was unlikely to trigger a by-election or displace him as menteri besar, given that the state has just over two years left in its current term, Harian Metro reported. 'God willing, I will remain as menteri besar. 'He (Tengku Zafrul) is going to perform the hajj pilgrimage, and I have asked him to pray for me,' he was quoted as saying after an event in Selayang today. Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul announced that he had submitted his resignation as an Umno member and would be applying to join PKR, led by Anwar Ibrahim. Citing 'compatibility and suitability', Tengku Zafrul said he decided to leave Umno after seeking advice from friends within and outside the party, including party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. His announcement, however, drew a sharp backlash, with Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki warning PKR against accepting him. PKR, on the other hand, has said it will consider input from grassroots members and its partners in the unity government before deciding on the application. Amirudin also said Tengku Zafrul's entry into PKR could bolster the party's credibility and expressed confidence that they could work well together. 'For example, in several meetings and government dealings, he (as investment, trade and industry minister) has been involved in the aerospace and semiconductor sectors, and we have established strong collaborations,' he said. When asked about the impact on relations with Umno, Amirudin said that a lengthy discussion took place today but declined to disclose details. 'I believe an understanding can be or has been reached, but I am not fully informed about it,' he said.
