The fiery prophet of the chaotic present

Dr. Jernail Singh Anand, often hailed as 'the greatest poet among philosophers and the greatest philosopher among poets,' is a literary colossus whose work blends creativity, intellect, and moral vision into a unique and powerful voice. A recipient of prestigious honours such as the Seneca, Charter of Morava, Franz Kafka, and Maxim Gorky awards, his name is etched permanently on the revered Poets' Rock in Serbia. With a literary output of 180 books, Anand's influence is both global and deeply rooted in Indian thought. If Rabindranath Tagore is seen as the serene sage of a colonial past, Dr. Anand rises as the fiery prophet of a chaotic present—his words resonating with universal urgency. For Dr. Anand, words are like birds—symbols of the freedom every human being yearns for. 'Playing with their feathers,' as he poetically puts it, reflects his affectionate dominion over them, ensuring they remain expressive yet obedient to poetic intent. He believes that while words can lend themselves to diverse interpretations, they should not be stretched so far that the essence of a poem disappears entirely. In a world increasingly obsessed with 'best sellers,' Anand's perspective is refreshingly idealistic. 'Literature is a serious genre that deals with the future of mankind,' he insists. Yet, in popular culture, he notes, works that provide instant gratification often reach the top through power and resources, while deeply meaningful literature struggles to find advocates. 'Time,' he asserts, 'is the true arbiter of a work of art.' His confidence is not misplaced—over 140 of his books are housed in the National Library in Kolkata, and his work enjoys admiration from literary elites across the globe. Anand draws a compelling parallel: 'Did Maxim Gorky or Leo Tolstoy ever worry about being best sellers in their lifetime?' One of his most compelling recent creations is Craza, the techno-king in the philosophical science fiction narrative 'The Alternate Universe.' Anand envisions Craza as a leader who seeks to align Artificial Intelligence with human and divine purposes, proposing the idea of creating 'enhanced' human beings. He introduces a novel concept— 'Overlap'—a metaphysical space beyond Heaven and Hell for those who exist in moral ambiguity. 'If we use restraint,' Anand explains, 'AI can function as a parallel intelligence that leads to human happiness. After all, it is a part of the human brain—an endowment from the gods.' With such a prolific literary journey, it's natural to wonder whether his contributions merit global recognition in record books or even the Nobel Prize. Anand acknowledges that his 12 epic works, compiled in two volumes titled 'Epicasia', certainly qualify for a world record. Regarding the Nobel, he says humbly, 'My work is already known to connoisseurs of world literature. The Nobel honors those who produce the most distinguished work in an idealistic direction. As Lord Krishna says in the Gita: action is in your hands, not the outcome. I've done my work and left the rest to the Will of the Lord.' Perhaps the most heartfelt chapter of his journey is the dedication of 'Epicasia' to Serbia. Anand was moved by the recognition he received from the Serbian literary community, including an Honorary Membership from the Association of Serbian Writers, the Charter of Morava, and the engraving of his name on the Poets' Rock. This inspired him to dedicate his magnum opus to the nation and to Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic, a Nobel nominee whom he reveres as a Good Samaritan. 'It was an act of thanksgiving to a country that recognized my work far earlier than my own,' he reflects. With a mind steeped in metaphysics and a soul devoted to human values, Dr. Jernail Singh Anand is more than just a prolific writer—he is a moral force, a literary visionary, and a prophetic voice for the modern world. His legacy is not only one of poetic beauty but of profound purpose.

Gavin Newsom swings through South Carolina, where Democrats will play pivotal 2028 nominating role

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom is launching a two-day tour of South Carolina on Tuesday, meeting voters across rural areas — and some GOP strongholds — in the early-voting state, the latest signal that the Democrat is eyeing a 2028 run for president. Over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, Newsom is slated to make a total of eight stops across the state, a trip that state Democratic Party officials have said includes coffee shops, small businesses and churches. The investment of time in a state pivotal to picking his party's presidential nominees, and Newsom's trajectory across some of its reddest areas, suggest that the term-limited governor is angling to shed his San Francisco liberal image, get out ahead of what it sure to be a crowded 2028 field and make inroads with the diverse Democratic electorate whose buy-in has long been seen as critical for their party's nominee. Starting in South Carolina's northeast on Tuesday, Newsom then turns on Wednesday toward the conservative Upstate, among the state's most GOP-rich areas. He kicks off that day with an event in the small town of Seneca, which four-term GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham calls home. In last year's general election, President Donald Trump won more than 75% of votes cast in surrounding Oconee County. Treading in that territory fits with the image that Newsom has been cultivating for himself ahead of a possible 2028 White House bid. Increasingly willing to break from some of the policies that have defined his brand and his deeply Democratic state, Newsom has hosted Trump's allies on his podcast, even stunning some members of his own party by agreeing with podcast guests on issues such as restricting transgender women and girls in sports. Saying dismantling police departments was 'lunacy,' Newsom also kept silent when longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon falsely said Trump won the 2020 presidential election against Democrat Joe Biden. Although the 2028 Democratic primary calendar won't be set for many months, potential candidates for the party's upcoming presidential slate have already started visiting South Carolina, with the expectation that the state will continue to play a pivotal role. At the urging of Biden — whose 2020 candidacy was saved by his resounding South Carolina primary win — the state led off Democrats' 2024 calendar, and party chair Christale Spain has said that she will renew the argument to keep the state's No. 1 position in the next cycle. South Carolina has long been the first southern state to hold a primary, giving it a unique role in the Democratic nomination process due to its diverse electorate, particularly the significant influence of Black voters. In May, a pair of governors — Minnesota's Tim Walz and Maryland's Wes Moore — headlined a weekend of events hosted by South Carolina Democrats, introducing themselves and testing out their possible candidacy arguments in front of the party faithful. Both men also addressed attendees at Rep. Jim Clyburn's World Famous Fish Fry, a storied night of cold drinks, hot fried fish and raucous political stumping in which scores of Democratic presidential hopefuls have participated through the years. ___ Kinnard can be reached at

SLED will investigate an incident after an Oconee County man was shot Thursday

State law enforcement announced investigations into a shooting involving Oconee deputies that left a man hospitalized. According to an email from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, there's an investigation into an incident during which an Oconee County resident shot a man fleeing from deputies the night of July 3. The man is currently receiving treatment at Greenville County Memorial Hospital. The shooting came after deputies were alerted to a welfare check at the Keowee Cove apartments on Gail Court in Seneca. SLED said when deputies arrived, they encountered a man who set fire to his apartment. When the armed man exited his apartment, there was an exchange of gunfire between the man and a deputy. The man ran to a nearby residence where the homeowner of the residence shot the subject during an encounter. The subject was detained and taken to a hospital. More: Upstate city is on Orkin's most mosquito-infested list. How to avoid those pesky bites SLED said no deputies were injured during the incident. SLED said this is the first shooting involving deputies for the Oconee County Sheriff's Office this year. Karmic theory paralyses Newton

'Every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. People are often seen quoting Newton's third law of motion as a gospel truth but how this scientific truth is addressed by philosophers, remains to be seen because laws which govern physical states, when applied to psychological, sociological and spiritual states, are found to be gravely flawed. Newton's third law is no exception. Action Sans Reaction First of all, in this 'compromised' world of post-modern times, in which truth has lost its original face, and wears various masks, there are actions which may have no reaction at all. If you raise your voice against the system, it is considered an act of treason. There may be a backlash, but it is a deferred reality and does not suit Newton's idea of a precisely 'equal and opposite' reaction. Moreover, if you do good, it may not show any equal or opposite reaction. Rather, the idea of doing good to society often brings up greater good, which does not fall in the category of 'reaction'. Actions, whether good or bad have a fall out with huge reverberations. Moreover, our actions are not independent. An action is a part of a larger set of circumstances; therefore, it affects, not a person but a set of forces are let loose which affect not only the actor, but the whole system as well. The Bhagwad Gita Newton's third law appears to be in conflict with the 'Karma' theory of Bhagwad Gita. In the field of science, it may be possible to measure the reaction of an action, but in human life, an action nor its reaction can be calculated in precise terms. The Lord himself says doing an action is in the hands of man, but its fall out lies with the will of God. Will it be equal and opposite lies in the domain of mystery. Action and the Idea of Fate Every action has a dual perception. Laying bricks for a wall, also means we are building a house. Perhaps Newton was unaware of this fact that every action possesses a spiritual significance also, and it is added in our general account of goodness or evil, whatever it serves. In other words, when we say an action has an equal and opposite reaction, we have to enlarge the impact of this reaction to include the idea of fate as well. Whatever we encounter in our lives, is the result of our actions, done in the past incarnations. It is difficult to assess whether they are equal or not because it is embedded in mystery. In other words, the noise that we make, returns to us in the form of a roar. Winds do not mind our curses, nor trees hold our hand holding an axe, but soon, they turn into tempests and come back to punish us. When waters turn into tsunamis, it is nature which refuses to swallow insults. Actions of humanity which smack of madness and insensitivity, are visited not by equal and opposite reaction, but by calamities far greater in intent, intensity and manifestation. (Dr. Jernail Singh Anand, the Laureate of Seneca, Charter of Morava, Franz Kafka and Maxim Gorky awards with an opus of 180 books, is a towering literary figure whose work embodies a rare fusion of creativity, intellect, and moral vision. His name adorns the Poets' Rock in Serbia)

Become the best with a journey of 6 milestones

Why is the world becoming so lost and more people search for a purpose? In this article, I will draw on Seneca, Al Jahiz, and the articles of 80,000 hours, to guide you on a journey through six milestones. In the end, you will find everything you want. But be warned — you will be met with hurdles at every stop. The first milestone is enjoyment. Here, your challenge is to identify three hobbies which you enjoy. Painting, mathematics, hiking, whatever you'd like. But be careful, on the way here, you will be misled by fake joys. The way to know whether your enjoyment is real or not is by asking yourself, the day after, if you regret the time you spent or not. Seneca states that there is a distinct difference between joy and pleasure. Your challenge? Find suitable joys. The second milestone is skill. Now, you should build your competency at each of the three hobbies you have chosen. However, there is a danger in this stop too. You may either underestimate or overestimate your own skill at a craft. This is why it is useful to seek constructive feedback from those around you. When seeking feedback, focus on asking pointed questions about aspects of your work, instead of requesting general thoughts. You may also join small local competitions to gauge your skill. At this stop, you may seek to discard some hobbies and take up others. Al Jahiz, in his book Al Hayawan, states that talent is something one is born with. He is surprised by one who spends a life as a singer, when his voice brings pain to others. While I believe you can master anything through sheer will and enough diligence, doubtless it is to your benefit to take advantage of your existing talents. Milestone three: This is where you will transition from having hobbies to having an obsession. From the three hobbies, I would like you to sharpen your spirit to a point, and find one which you are willing to sink the majority of your time into everyday. The way to choose is simple: When you are obsessed, you will spend time doing the thing even when exhausted. For example, writing is what I do after work, and I find that it energizes me. If you cannot practice while tired, and if the practice exhausts you instead of spiritually fulfilling you, then it may not be your passion. Secondly, when obsessed you will be willing to study the craft, speak to others about it, and consume it. This is what it takes to overcome the third hurdle. Once you find an obsession, you can keep the two others as side hobbies, and focus on this one craft. Take pride in it. Let it form part of your identity. Milestone Four: Now the hard part- you should find a way through which to make money through your obsession. This can be direct (a footballer playing semi-professionally) or indirectly (an artist working as a gallery curator). Now, let us acknowledge that some choose to avoid this milestone completely. For example, some are content working as an engineer, but being an obsessive hiker. That is acceptable, but my anecdotal evidence shows that even people who choose this path find their way to stop four eventually. Give it a try. Here my knowledge ends, as I've not reached milestone five yet. However, let me try to guess at the two milestones ahead, both on your behalf and Five: Sustaining yourself financially. This milestone is all about ensuring your obsession is making enough money for it to become your full-time career. There are two paths for this: The artist or the entrepreneur. As an artist, you would be practicing your work, while others sell it for you. This is the path of actors, craftsmen, and consultants. However, another way to make a career out of your passion is to start an enterprise. For example, instead of being a highly-paid accountant, you may open an accounting firm. This truly depends on whether you enjoy practicing the craft more than you enjoy systemising it. Both options are feasible. Now, after many turns, we have reached the sixth milestone. You are working full time at your passion, making a good amount of money with it, and have enough free time to pursue the niceties of life. Now, it is time to think about the impact you have on the world. How is what you do helping the world? Finding the answer to this question will help you reach this milestone, and will also make you the best at what you do. Congratulations. If you are here, then I hope you are happy. If you have not reached this stop yet, like me, then I wish you a successful journey ahead as you become the best at what you do.
