Hamilton Accies' SFA appeal verdict CONFIRMED as crisis club's relegation fate revealed
THE SFA have delivered their verdict on Hamilton Academical's points deduction appeal. Accies were hit with a 15-point deduction that plummeted them to the bottom of the Scottish Championship table. 3 Hamilton will be leaving New Douglas Park Credit: Kenny Ramsay - The Sun Glasgow 3 Hamilton owner Seref Zengin Credit: Callan Media - Commissioned by The Sun 3 Accies boss John Rankin Credit: SNS They were hammered by the SPFL over numerous rule breaches. Among the charges put forward was 'failure to notify the SPFL of Remuneration Defaults in respect of six players and a failure to act with the utmost good faith in its representations to the SPFL Board regarding the lifting of a transfer embargo'. Another charge was 'provision of incorrect information regarding stadium ownership'. Just days later, they were held to a goalless draw at home by Queen's Park and that result RELEGATED them from the division. But the following week, Hamilton launched an appeal with the SFA and just ONE DAY before the conclusion of the Championship season, the verdict has been reached. The SFA have DISMISSED Hamilton's appeal - meaning their relegation to League One is now CONFIRMED. As per the governing body's disciplinary updates, the original sanctions have been re-imposed with immediate effect. That leaves them bottom of the Championship table on 21 points - eight adrift of second-bottom Airdrieonians. As well as the points, Hamilton have separate fines of £5,000 and £3,000 each, with £1,500 of the latter fine suspended. Ahead of tomorrow night's final league games, Hamilton are confirmed down, while Airdrie will contest the play-off. Jose Quitongo A broken toilet landed me in jail Both Dunfermline and Queen's Park are now officially safe from any relegation bother with a six-point gap between them and second-bottom Airdrie. Both the Pars and Spiders could have potentially been back in the play-off reckoning had Hamilton's points been restored. In the hours before the appeal was heard, it was also revealed that Hamilton will be moving OUT of their New Douglas Park home. They'll head to play at Broadwood next season and say they plan to build a new stadium in South Lanarkshire. Hamilton are owned by 1874 Holdings, a company headed by Seref Zengin. But the New Douglas Park Stadium is owned by the club's FORMER owner, Colin McGowan. Despite reports that a year's rent of the ground had gone unpaid, Accies chairman Jock Brown has denied the club are in debt to the stadium owner. He said: "The board has considered carefully the proposal published by the stadium owner and communicated to the media in respect of the club continuing to occupy New Douglas Park. "The proposal cannot be accepted on the terms stated. In the first instance the balance in respect of the funds accruing between the parties over the past twenty-two months is substantially in favour of the club, so any postponement of settlement of the appropriate balance is inappropriate. The club is not indebted to the owner. "Second, the terms of the only new draft lease provided so far are unacceptable. "Third, the club's experience of being tenants over the past twenty-two months has been thoroughly unsatisfactory. "It is correct that the club has been trying to purchase the company which owns the stadium (the seller's preferred way of completing the transaction) over a period in excess of a year. "The necessary funds are available. However, the seller has failed for a period of several months to produce the due diligence information routinely sought in a transaction of this kind and has made it clear that necessary warranties will not be forthcoming. In such circumstances any purchase would be irresponsible and has thus been rendered unachievable." More to follow... Hamilton Accies in fan crackdown as bar closed and balaclavas banned ahead of Livingston clash
Hamilton Accies have enforced a closure of their stadium bar and prohibited snoods and balaclavas from being worn at Saturday's Championship fixture with Livingston. The announcement comes after Accies director John Brown and a steward were allegedly victims of a bottle attack during last weekend's 0-0 draw with Queen's Park at New Douglas Park, where a fan is understood to have stormed the boardroom. Police enquiries are ongoing into the incident after they reviewed CCTV footage earlier this week. Club officials including owner Seref Zengin were seen being escorted away from the directors box for their own safety during the game, with angry fans venting their frustration over the club's 15-point deduction and £9,000 fine for multiple breaches of SPFL rules. Now the club - who have lodged an appeal of the judgement with the SFA - moved to enforce restrictions ahead of what is the club's final home game of the league campaign. A club statement read: "We would like to make all supporters aware that the Stadium bar will NOT be open for this Saturday's fixture. "There will also be no supporter access inside the main stand, prior to, during or after the match. Only those who require access to the lift or disabled facilities will be permitted entry. "We would also like to make all supporters aware that any form of unacceptable conduct will not be tolerated. Those found to be in breach of these rules will be ejected from the Stadium and may face prosecution. "Anyone arriving at the Stadium wearing a Snood or Balaclava and who refuse to remove it will be refused entry. Please see our policy on unacceptable conduct on our website." Accies are currently seven points adrift of second bottom side Airdrie with two game remainings and will be relegated if their sanctions stand.

Crisis-torn SPFL club provided with potential lifeline as stadium owners offer to POSTPONE debts
Their future is still fair from certain THE OWNERS of New Douglas Park have offered to postpone Hamilton's stadium debts for a year, with the crisis-hit club facing an uncertain future. Accies were slapped with a 15-point deduction and a £9,000 fine last week by the SPFL. 1 New Douglas Park, where Hamilton Academical have played since 2001 The South Lanarkshire club have now been relegated from the Championship - pending the outcome of an SFA appeal - after being charged with "multiple breaches" of SPFL rules. Accies have been charged with failing to report not paying players, not providing correct stadium ownership information, downgrading their SFA licence and not submitting club membership criteria by the required deadline. Tensions boiled over on Saturday in a 0-0 draw with Queen's Park and fans lobbed bottles and broke into the boardroom in protest at the situation the club finds itself in. We revealed over the weekend that Hamilton have debts of over £500,000, which includes a year's unpaid rent to the owners of New Douglas Park. Accies are currently owned by the 1874 Holdings company, run by chairman Seref Zengin. But their New Douglas Park ground is owned by HAFC Stadium Limited, whose director is former Accies supremo Colin McGowan. Zengin's firm had planned to buy the stadium but this hasn't materialised. As negotiations have dragged on, it's led to Accies potentially leaving Hamilton altogether and finding an alternative venue in North Lanarkshire. The situation is further complicated by the fact that League Two outfit Clyde have been playing at New Douglas Park on a temporary basis and they moved to express uncertainty over their continued use of the facility earlier this month. Local councillors and business owners have met with McGowan this week to try and find a solution. Hamilton Accies fans chant 'Sack The Board' as club learn relegation fate after Queen's Park draw And a proposal that would give both parties a year's grace has been formulated. McGowan penned a letter to the Accies board, which has since been shared online. It read: "Following the events of the past week and coverage of these in the press I have been approached by local elected representatives, local businesses and others who have been trying to comprehend the current status of the Club and New Douglas Park, and who have expressed a keenness to assist. I am sure that you have had the same experience. "I regret that you have been unable to accommodate or schedule a meeting to discuss continuation of the Club's tenancy however fully appreciate that your attention and efforts are concentrated elsewhere, including the SPFL appeal. "As you are aware we have been negotiating a sale and purchase of New Douglas Park for over a year and this has not yet led to a successful outcome. This company has maintained the position agreed with you prior to the change of ownership of the Club and indeed had made some concessions along the way, yet your promised investment has not materialised in spite of all of your considerable efforts. "I owned and ran Hamilton Accies for over 20 years and well understand the funding challenge and the manifest benefit to any club of owning its stadium, hence was encouraged to be advised within the last month that your formal offer to purchase was expected imminently. "Now I understand that you are looking for alternative venues for next season and beyond. "Whilst I fully recognise that this is a matter for your Board, I cannot understand how it is in the best interests of Hamilton Academical FC to leave New Douglas Park. "That view has been underlined by everyone who has made approaches in recent days. "In particular, included in that number are elected representatives from South Lanarkshire Council which played such a critical part in the construction of New Douglas Park, including being represented on this Company's board for many years. "To some degree therefore we share a mutual interest, but if you believe that the best interests of Hamilton Accies' supporters, shareholders and community are best served by moving from Hamilton to North Lanarkshire that is your decision to make. I would not wish to be party in any way to necessitating a rushed departure. "Accordingly and in response to a request from our friends from South Lanarkshire Council, I wish to make the following simple proposal to you:- "1) HAFC can continue its occupation of New Douglas Park rent free from 1 July 2025 until 30 June 2026. "2 ) Both HAFC and this Company agree a standstill on pursuing claims for outstanding debts which are or may be due between us until 30 June 2026. "This gives both parties time to plan and execute the next stages of our respective futures in a calm and controlled environment, irrespective of what decisions that we take. "I would hope that during that period we can harmonise our efforts, with the help of the wider Accies community. "I sincerely hope that you will consider this proposal seriously as it is advanced primarily to ensure the future success of the Club and its precious provenance." Police Scotland investigate alleged 'bottle attack' on Hamilton Accies director
There were some ugly scences during Saturday's clash with Queen's Park Police Scotland are investigating after an alleged bottle attack on Hamilton Accies director John Brown during Saturday's Championship clash with Queen's Park that saw the club unofficially relegated. Accies were hit with a 15-point deduction and £9,000 fine ahead of Saturday's clash and angry fans were seen venting their frustration towards the directors box, where club owner Seref Zengin, chairman Jock Brown, ex-Labour MP George Robertson and John Brown were all present. Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed that a club director and a head steward had allegedly been attacked at half-time of the clash, with a person managing to gain access to the boardroom. The incident was confirmed by the club. Police could also be seen moving in and ushering Accies board members out of the stands. John Brown was spotted with a plaster on his nose. It is understood Police Scotland will now review CCTV footage and a police spokesman said: 'We were made aware of two men aged 70 and 52 having been assaulted within stadium premises in Cadzow Drive, Hamilton on Saturday, 19 April, 2025. Enquiries are ongoing.' Saturday's 0-0 draw with Spiders means Accies will be relegated unless they successfully appeal their points deduction, which is set to be received by the Scottish Football Association tomorrow. Once the appeal is received, the Championship table will revert back, pending the outcome. As things stand, Accies are seven points adrift of nearest rivals Airdrieonians with just two games remaining. They host title-chasing Livingston on Saturday and are due to end the campaign away to league leaders Falkirk on Friday, May 2.
