Umno division chiefs urge enforcement of royal addendum for Najib's house arrest
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 145 Umno division chiefs nationwide, including those from Sabah, have called for the enforcement of a royal addendum decree to allow former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest. They said the decree had already been consented to by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong and said that there was no longer any excuse to delay its implementation. Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah said all 145 division leaders are also demanding the Attorney-General withdraw the Federal Court appeal against the Court of Appeal's ruling on Jan 6. "As the government's top legal adviser, the Attorney-General should uphold the King's decree and support justice, not obstruct it. "In addition, all Umno divisions that have yet to convene are urged to table a special motion on the Titah Addendum during their respective division meetings," he said.

KL to JB ETS launches Aug 2025 — a new era for Singapore-Malaysia travel
After years of anticipation, and a few delays since construction first began back in 2017, you'll finally be able to hop aboard the Electric Train Service (ETS) from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru via the Gemas – JB Sentral route starting Aug 2025. Currently, the diesel-powered train journey between KL and JB takes a sluggish 7 hours. But thanks to this RM9.5 billion electrified double-tracking project, that travel time will be slashed to just 4 hours and 30 minutes. Along the way, expect stops at these stations: Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, and JB Sentral. The trains will cruise along at speeds of up to 140km/h. Malaysia has also received its first ETS 3 train set, and it's designed with passenger comfort in mind. With 312 seats, onboard WiFi, USB charging ports, and generous luggage space, you're set for a cosy journey. This development marks the final phase of the West Coast rail electrification project, first launched in 2011 under the administration of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. The government continues to prioritise this transformative project alongside the Johor Bahru – Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, which is scheduled to open by Jan 2027, according to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. About 3K passengers will travel between Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur every day once the service is up and running. Meanwhile, as RTS construction picks up steam, citizens should take note: the Jalan Johor Bahru–Endau road will be fully closed from 3 Jun 2025 to 31 Dec 2026. Key roads affected include Jalan Tun Abdul Razak (towards Danga Bay), Jalan Station, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, and Jalan Lingkaran Dalam. Drivers on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak 1 can reroute via the road in front of Masjid Habib Hassan Al-Attas, make a U-turn near Danga City Mall, and then turn left onto Jalan Lingkaran Dalam. Let's hope there will be no more delays this time so we can all enjoy travelling without having to buy a car! KotaSAS station becomes first ECRL stop to complete system installation
KUANTAN: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), the nation's mega rail project, is set to enter a new chapter tomorrow (May 30) with the completion of system installation works at the KotaSas central station here. KotaSAS station is the first along the 665km alignment, which comprises 20 stations, to reach this significant milestone. Notably, the station was also the site of the project's groundbreaking ceremony on Aug 9, 2017, which was officiated by then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. In a media invitation, China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), the project's engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contractor, described tomorrow's event as the project's first article assessment ceremony for its communication, information and signalling systems. "It marks the successful completion of communication, information and signalling systems at the ECRL KotaSas station for the operation of passenger and cargo trains. "These systems serve as the 'brain and central nervous system' of the ECRL project, playing a vital role in ensuring safe and efficient train operations," the statement said. Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak and CCC-ECRL managing director Deng Bo are expected to attend the event. The communication, signalling and telecommunications systems are among three critical components required to prepare the ECRL stations for testing and commissioning, scheduled for June next year. Construction began in May last year. The first six-car ECRL Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train for passengers and the first Electric Locomotive (E-Loco) unit for freight are expected to arrive in Malaysia by year-end. The ECRL project, which traverses Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Selangor, linking Kota Baru to the Gombak Integrated Transport Terminal, is slated to begin operations in January 2027. Its extension from Gombak to Port Klang is expected to be operational by January 2028. On May 6, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said construction of the ECRL had reached an overall progress of 82.45 per cent.
