Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be a record-breaking foldable — here's why
A new leak suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be much thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, while also confirming other rumored specs. There's no doubt that foldable phones have gone from strength to strength in recent years, with some of the best foldable phones offering an unparalleled experience. However, while Samsung might have been the biggest name in the market, it has struggled to stand out compared to the competition in terms of hardware. But this could soon change, as a new leak from Setsuna Digital (via Android Authority) has stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will only be 8.9mm thick when closed, and 4.2mm when open. If accurate, then this would mean that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be thinner than the Oppo Find N5, which is the current thinnest phone at 8.93mm thick. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 that the Z Fold 7 would replace measures 12mm thick when closed and 5.6mm when opened. On top of that, the post from Setsuna also claims that the phone will feature a 6.5-inch external screen and an 8-inch internal screen. The phone is rumored to feature a 200MP main camera and a 10MP front camera with a 100-degree wide-angle lens, all powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. This isn't the first time we've heard these specs, as we've seen similar mentions in the past few months. For instance, Evan Blass recently revealed similar thickness and camera specs. Not only that, Samsung itself has also teased that the Z Fold 7 will feature "cutting-edge performance and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format." The post also gives us some details about the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which is stated to have an unfolded thickness of 6.5mm, a 4.1-inch external screen and a 6.9-inch internal display. The phone is also said to be coming with a 4,300 mAh battery. While there's no mention of a chip, there are rumors that the phone will come with the Exynos chip in certain markets, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite in others. If this leak is accurate, then there is no doubt that the Z Fold 7 would be incredibly thin. However, it should be noted that the Honor Magic V4 could be even thinner, with recent rumors stating that it could also be under 9mm thick. A new Samsung leak claims that the company could unveil a long-rumored device during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked: a triple foldable, thought to be named the Galaxy G-Fold. We don't have long to wait before Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event, which is coming up on July 9. The most anticipated announcements are the unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but a new leak on Weibo by Setsuna Digital (via Android Authority) has suggested that Samsung could also unveil the G-Fold at the event. The leak goes on to state that we could expect to see the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Z Flip 7 hit shelves in August, while the G-Fold won't be available until October. This could indicate that buyers will have a longer pre-order time for the triple foldable phone, or that it won't be up for pre-orders immediately after the announcement. A previous rumor claimed that Samsung is only releasing an initial wave of 200,000 units, so perhaps we would expect the latter due to the limited number of phones Samsung may have to sell. On the plus side, it alos appears that the phone could feature a new type of battery that could help the phone limit its thickness. According to a leak, the G-Fold will feature the same silicon-carbon battery that was recently rumored to be in next year's Galaxy S26 phones. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a gap in the rumor mill when it comes to the rest of the phone's specs, but we'd expect it to feature the same Snapdragon 8 Elite seen in the Galaxy S25, as well as around 12GB or 16GB of RAM and at least 256GB of storage. While it would be great to finally see Samsung's triple foldable at Galaxy Unpacked, we'd recommend taking this leak with a grain of salt. If it does turn out to be accurate, then this summer could prove to be a particularly good time for Samsung fans looking for the next best foldable. It may come with a 4.1-inch cover display and a 6.9-inch internal screen, both offering a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,600 nits peak brightness. This could mark a notable step up from the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which features a 3.4-inch outer screen and 6.7-inch main display. Battery capacity could also see an improvement, with the Z Flip 7 rumoured to house a 4,300mAh unit, up from the 4,000mAh battery found in the previous generation. The new model is tipped to measure 13.7mm when closed and 6.5mm when open, and weigh 188g, offering a sleeker profile than its predecessor.
