Collin Sexton breaks silence after trade to Hornets

The post Collin Sexton breaks silence after trade to Hornets appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Charlotte Hornets scored big when they acquired Collin Sexton from the Utah Jazz. Even without securing the talents of Chris Paul, the Hornets aren't complaining. Consequently, Sexton is ecstatic about this new opportunity and has expressed as much, according to Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer. 'Super grateful for the opportunity. Ready to come in and help build the culture and be a leader right away,' Sexton said. 'I feel like the last couple of weeks practicing and stuff, it's been a lot of fun but also getting used to the guys.' Last year, Sexton finished his third season with the Jazz. Altogether, he averaged 18.4 points and 4.2 assists per game. Sexton is entering a team full of young talent, including Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges, and LaMelo Ball. He is in attendance in Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League and emphasized the importance of supporting the newcomers. 'That is something that we've talked about,' he said. 'We want as many guys here to support the younger guys. As you can see, we've had an excellent turnout.' Additionally, Sexton discussed creating a family atmosphere with the Hornets. 'Whether it's on the court, off the court, whether you have questions about basketball, about life, we all are here, and it's a brotherhood,' Sexton said. 'We've got to pick up one another, and when someone is down, be there to encourage them when they need it.' In addition to leadership, Sexton is a stellar scorer and playmaker. He can drive to the basket and can finish consistently. Furthermore, Sexton can get the best out of his players with added assist totals this past year. Meanwhile, the Hornets are coming off a 19-63 season. They aim to ignite a spark for this band of young guns. Sexton is expected to deliver in that realm. Call for end to ‘unfair' inheritance tax laws for childless people

A campaign has been launched to end discrimination against people without children in inheritance tax. Parents can leave up to €400,000 to children before tax kicks in, but the threshold is €40,000 in bequests to anyone else. End Discrimination in Inheritance Tax for Childless Citizens (EDIT) said childless people and members of the LGBTQI community are being unfairly isolated because of laws that have not been updated since same-sex marriage legislation was introduced in 2015. Inheritance Tax: Pic: Getty Images EDIT spokesman James Sexton said: 'If a parent passes a property on to a son or daughter, the inheritance tax threshold kicks in on a building valued at €400,000. However, if a childless couple or single person passes a property on to a niece or nephew, the inheritance tax kicks in at €40,000.' He said existing tax law is blatantly discriminatory against couples who, through no fault of their own, have been unable to have children. Mr Sexton added: 'This is grossly unfair. Me and my wife and others, are facing a situation whereby, when the time comes to pass on the property to a niece and a nephew, because of the €40,000 tax threshold, the respective niece will, in all likelihood, have to sell the property because they won't be able to afford the tax bill. inheritance tax. Pic: Getty Images 'This scenario is resulting in very upsetting situations whereby if a house has been in the family name for 100 years or more, the sale of the property will end the family link with the respective property and association with that particular location.' He added that heterosexual people are not the only ones affected by this 'outdated and unfair' tax measure. The inheritance tax law is thought to affect more than one million people and, in particular, members of the LGBTQI community. Speaking to Gay Community News recently, Mr Sexton said: 'This is unconstitutional, inequitable and discriminatory. This needs to change. Our equal status legislation is meant to prevent discrimination on the grounds of family status.' Independent TD Michael Collins. Pic: Liam McBurney/PA Wire Independent Ireland leader Michael Collins said: 'We've raised this issue in the Dáil numerous times. It's an awful situation. Individuals who inherit a property from a childless uncle or aunt are facing an exorbitant tax bill, with the result that most are left with no option but to sell, and for everyone involved except the taxman, this can be heartbreaking, costly, and ultimately can end the family connection with a location. 'It seems people in Government aren't listening or don't care. We [Independent Ireland] have raised this in the Dáil numerous times, and we aim to introduce a Bill to address this matter in advance of the budget. It's one we're working on already. 'For a working person with no children, or members of the gay community, this affects so many people. There has to be a fair understanding by the Government. This mightn't happen overnight, but the Government needs to do something to address this issue that affects so many people.' EDIT has made two presentations in Leinster House before TDs and senators this year. The organisation has also highlighted the matter with Taoiseach Micheál Martin. A Department of Finance spokesman said: 'The department cannot comment in advance on any tax matters that might be the subject of budget decisions.' The rules governing farm land inheritance tax were recently relaxed to avoid farms being carved up to pay the tax bill. However, the change led to a surge in the price of farmland as people invested in it to avoid inheritance tax bills for their children.

Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Washougal: Jett Lawrence loses first season overall

In Round 8 of the 2025 Pro Motocross season, Round 25 of the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX), Chase Sexton did what no other rider has been capable of: He scored more points than Jett Lawrence in a round in which Jett made it to the checkered flag of Moto 2 uninjured. Sexton returned to the field only three rounds ago after crashing hard in the season-opening round at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. He finished fifth at RedBud MX Park in Buchanan, Michigan, but had some obvious rust that needed to be knocked off. He was third last week in Spring Creek, but a distant third behind both Lawrence brothers. Those two rounds taught Sexton what he needed for Washougal, however, and Sexton took the lessons to heart. Sexton got a great start in Moto 1 before winning the race. In Moto 2, he showed aggression when required and passed Hunter Lawrence for second after a red flag restart and scored the overall victory with his 1-2. Click here for a recap of Spring Creek For Jett, the loss came down to one simple mistake. Chasing Sexton on Lap 7, he tried to cut low and avoid the KTM's roost, tucking his wheel in the process. It is unclear whether Jett would have been able to pass Sexton during the next nine laps, but given his Motocross record, Sexton was undoubtedly relieved to have the gap. Lawrence dropped to third with the crash, and he pressured Eli Tomac for several laps before deciding to conserve his energy for Moto 2. Jett won the second race, but the inability to get into second in Moto 1 cost him the two points he needed to win via Motocross' tiebreaking procedure. Tomac finished second in Moto 1, 3.4 seconds behind Sexton. He was third in Moto 2 to secure third overall. His demeanor on the podium at the end of the race belied his loss to two other riders. Tomac was happy to have been in sight of the leaders for both 30-minute sessions. He believes the struggles of the past two weeks are behind him, and Tomac can begin to concentrate on gathering momentum for the SMX Playoffs. Relive Moto 1 Hunter's eight-race streak of moto podiums was doomed when he got a poor start in the first race in Washougal. He completed Lap 1 in seventh and did not have enough wind in his sails to glide to the top three. Hunter cracked the top five on Lap 6 and posted his fastest lap of the race the next time around, but would not go any further. He was sharper in Moto 2, riding second to his brother until a red flag waved, but was no match for the determination of Sexton and Tomac on the restart. He finished fourth overall with a 5-4. RJ Hampshire extended his overall top-five streak to three races after finishing fourth in Moto 1 and sixth in Moto 2. The battle for the top five was intense, with two points separating Hunter in fourth from Justin Cooper in sixth, which underscores the importance of fighting for each position. Problems continue for the Spanish rider, Jorge Prado. He earned the holeshot in Moto 1 before fading to finish eighth. He was 19th in the second race, contributing to a combined overall result of 14th. Kawasaki Racing announced last week that Jason Anderson will sit out the remainder of the season to focus on his health, allowing the team to concentrate all its efforts on Prado. ‘He's still flashy' jokes Johnny Sexton as Ireland legend reveals Finn Russell has shown different side with Lions

Sexton, 40, had his nose put out of joint in 2021 when Russell got picked ahead of him for the series against South Africa . He later described the Scot as 'flashy'. But the Sexton said: 'He's still flash, yeah! He'd hate it if I said 'no'. But in the last couple of years he's really matured as a player. 'You can see it with Bath — getting to finals, winning trophies, you can't do that if you're just a mercurial No 10. We always knew, particularly when you're surrounding him with the players he's got around him, he's going to bring the best out of them and they'll bring the best out of him. 'He's come into his own as a ten and he's been able to manage a team — because, ultimately, his main job tomorrow is to manage all the guys around him. 'And then his brilliance will come out, once he's into the game.' Russell plays like he is having a kickabout but Sexton has seen another side to the maverick with his off-pitch prep on the laptop and around the squad ahead of the Brisbane Test. Most read in Rugby Union Sexton said: 'You have a perception of him, and I would have had the same, of a relaxed guy who takes things in his stride — but he does a lot of work behind the scenes. Andy Farrell wants end to social media 'nonsense' after son Owen's Lions call 'You need to know what you are doing together and he has done a great job. 'I am sure Joe (Schmidt) will have a plan, because he'll know how integral he is to our team and will do everything he can to put him off. He's been probably our best defender in the backline on this tour so far. 'You always knew that was in there, he's a feisty guy. 'Physically he doesn't look that big but he's fronted up with a lot of impact tackles. 'We'll need him in that regard because they'll be coming down his channel.' Sexton and the Lions won 23-21 here in 2013, when Kurtley Beale slipped taking a late Wallabies penalty to win it. And Sexton added: 'It's going to come down to something small like that. Hopefully we'll be on the right side of it.'

Johnny Sexton heaps praise upon former rival but insists he's still 'flash'

Johnny Sexton has praised Finn Russell's abilities, acknowledging that the "flash" skills of the British and Irish Lions fly-half are complemented by a solid defensive game ahead of the Brisbane showdown. Russell is set to orchestrate the play in Saturday's first Test as the Lions aim to secure an early advantage in their quest for a series win, something they last achieved on their 2013 tour Down Under. The Scottish maestro, once labelled as "flashy" and a "media darling" in Sexton's memoirs, has since impressed the Irish legend with his all-round game during their time together, with Sexton now serving as the Lions kicking coach. 'Finn's still flash! He'd hate it if I said he isn't,' Sexton said. 'But in the last couple of years he's come into his own as a 10 and he's been able to manage a team because ultimately that's his main job. And then his brilliance will come out once he's into the game. 'He's probably been our best defender in the backline on this tour so far. You always knew that was in there because he's a feisty guy. 'Physically he doesn't look that big, but he's fronted up big time on this tour and made a lot of impact tackles. We'll need him to do that against Australia because they'll be coming down his channel. 'I'm sure (Australia coach) Joe Schmidt will have a plan for him because he'll know how integral he is to our team and I'm sure he'll be doing everything to cut him off.' Russell plays with a smile on his face, reacting to mistakes with a grin and shrug of the shoulders, but the 32-year-old magician is operating at the peak of his powers having recently steered Bath to the treble. 'Finn has been relaxed as always, you wouldn't know it's the week of a Test. You can see the work he does, though,' Sexton said. 'You have a perception of him from the outside and I would have had the same, in terms of he is a relaxed guy and just takes things in his stride. But he does a lot of work behind the scenes. 'In the last couple of years he's really matured as a player. Bath getting to finals, winning trophies – you can't do that if you're just that kind of mercurial 10. 'You've seen that now this year. He's got his team over the line and he's won a few trophies and he's carried that form into here.' The Lions are heavy favourites to seize an early lead in the series at Suncorp Stadium, but Sexton insists victory is not a foregone conclusion. 'We don't pay too much attention to the bookies' odds or what people are saying. We're just concentrating on putting a great performance out there,' the former Lions playmaker said. 'That's what will be needed – a great performance, not a good performance, to beat this Australian team. 'They're a proud nation, they're a top class team, they're well coached, and we need to get the best version of ourselves out there.'
