Religious conversions are a ‘conspiracy' to undermine nation's identity: Yogi

Lucknow: Terming illegal religious conversions a 'calculated conspiracy' to undermine the nation's identity and social fabric, CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said his govt will take firm action to curb the menace. "Some forces are deliberately trying to alter the fundamental character of the country through unlawful conversions. This is an attack on social cohesion and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances," said Yogi while addressing a gathering after flagging off Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra from his Lucknow residence. The yatra is dedicated to the 350th Shaheedi Varsh of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Mentioning the recent Balrampur case, where a large-scale illegal conversion racket backed by foreign funding was unearthed, he said that over Rs 100 crore was transacted across 40 accounts, with pre-determined "rates" for conversion. He termed this a grave threat to both economic and social security. CM Yogi stressed that marginalised communities, particularly Scheduled Castes, were being lured or coerced into changing their religion. He emphasised that such acts go against the spirit of the Constitution and the principle of social equality. The CM welcomed and honoured the Sandesh Yatra by showering flower petals. The Yatra, which started from Lucknow, will pass through Kanpur, Etawah and Agra before culminating at Chandni Chowk and the historic Sisganj Gurdwara in Delhi—the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! Yogi said the 350-year-old legacy of martyrdom is being revived through this yatra, serving as a powerful reminder of the oppressive era under Aurangzeb's rule. He noted that the Mughal ruler sought to suppress Sanatan Dharma and impose Islamic dominance. "In the face of tyranny, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji chose martyrdom over compromise, standing firm on the path of righteousness," he said. He said the martyrdom of Tegh Bahadur continues to inspire future generations with its message of unwavering faith and courage. "The entire yatra is rooted in the tradition of sacrifice and resilience. As we commemorate Shaheedi Diwas, we are reminded of the immense struggles and sacrifices that paved the way for India to emerge as a free and strong nation," he added. Yogi stressed the need to preserve the legacy of sacrifice set by Sikh Gurus and to resist attempts to divide Hindus and Sikhs. "Such conspiracies have been attempted before and will continue to surface, but we must remain vigilant and united," he said. He added that the Shaheedi Diwas inspires people to carry forward the Gurus' legacy and adapt it to modern-day strategies to ensure no community or individual is ever forced to abandon their culture or religion. Referring to national celebrations such as the 550th Prakash Parv and the Veer Bal Diwas, the CM acknowledged the central govt's efforts to elevate these observances to national prominence. He also lauded PM Narendra Modi for officially declaring Dec 26 as Veer Bal Diwas, in honour of the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas (the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh).

Sirsa accuses AAP govt of politicising sacrilege issue

Chandigarh: Delhi's environment minister and BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Wednesday accused the AAP government in Punjab of politicising the issue of sacrilege (beadbi), similar to the tactics used by the Congress during its tenure. Delhi's environment minister and BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Wednesday accused the AAP government in Punjab of politicising the issue of sacrilege (beadbi), similar to the tactics used by the Congress during its tenure. Sirsa criticised the AAP for failing to address sacrilege incidents, despite promises to hold the perpetrators accountable. 'The AAP government promised to arrest those responsible for sacrilege incidents. Now, they are saying they will frame a law to address this issue, which indicates their failure to prevent such incidents over the past three years,' Sirsa stated during a press conference. Further slamming AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Sirsa accused the party leadership of exploiting Punjab, following their alleged 'loot' of Delhi. 'After looting Delhi, they have now set their sights on Punjab,' Sirsa said. Delhi govt to commemorate Shaheedi Diwas Sirsa also announced that the Delhi government would officially commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur. A two-day state-level programme will be held at the Red Fort to honour the Guru's supreme sacrifice, with support from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. 'This sacred occasion will be marked with deep respect and devotion under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta and the support of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee,' Sirsa stated. As part of its ongoing initiatives, Sirsa announced the creation of a Miyawaki-style urban forest near Najafgarh, Delhi, known as the 'Great Forest'. Dedicated to the memory of Guru Teg Bahadur, the project aims to improve local air quality and expand urban greenery while serving as a tribute to the Guru's sacrifice. Sirsa emphasised that the forest would also inspire future generations to uphold values of nature, peace, and communal harmony, which were central to Guru Teg Bahadur's teachings. In an effort to promote awareness of Sikh heritage, Sirsa shared that Delhi University would soon launch a special academic course focused on Sikh history and the lives and teachings of the Sikh Gurus.

Dibrugarh Sikh community observes Shaheedi Diwas with Chabeel & prayers

Dibrugarh: Sikh community in Dibrugarh observed Shaheedi Diwas, the martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, with prayers and the traditional distribution of Chabeel (a sweetened cold drink) at the historic Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara on AT Road. Hundreds of devotees participated in the commemoration, honouring the supreme sacrifice of the fifth Sikh Guru. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was tortured to death on the orders of Mughal emperor Jahangir on June 16, 1606, for refusing to convert to Islam. His unwavering faith and sacrifice are remembered through devotional prayers and the centuries-old tradition of serving Chabeel — symbolising his suffering under the scorching sun during his torture. Sardar Gurdev Singh, president of the Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara committee, said, "Guru Arjan Dev Ji's martyrdom teaches us patience, sacrifice, and steadfastness in faith. By distributing Chabeel, we not only honour his suffering but also spread the message of selfless service, just as Guru Ji devoted himself to humanity." Throughout the day, the Gurdwara witnessed a steady stream of devotees attending Akhand Path (continuous scripture reading) and Ardas (prayers) in tribute to Guru Arjan Dev Ji. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cantanhede: Quanto vale a sua casa? "Every year, we serve Chabeel to hundreds of people. This is our way of keeping Guru Ji's teachings alive — serving others with love and humility," said Simmi Kaur, a volunteer. Guru Arjan Dev Ji (1563-1606) holds a revered place in Sikh history. He compiled the Adi Granth, the first official version of Sikh scriptures, which later became the Guru Granth Sahib. He also laid the foundation for the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar and established the concept of langar (community kitchen), which continues to provide free meals to all.
