"Why socialism, secularism terms not in original draft?" Shaina NC backs RSS demand to Preamble amendments

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 27 (ANI): Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC on Friday said she 'supports' the remarks of RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on the Constitution and said that the leader's demand to re-examine the original draft prepared by Dr BR Ambedkar stems from the view that in a republic like India, invoking terms such as 'socialist or pseudo-secular' is no longer necessary. Speaking to ANI, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC said, 'We support the RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on this matter. Because if you see the preamble of the Indian constitution, we see that before 1975-76, there was no mention of the words 'socialist and secular.' As Congress declared an emergency on June 25, 1975, Indira Gandhi inserted the words 'socialist and secular' in the 42nd Constitutional Amendment in the preamble.' 'The RSS is demanding to look into the original draft of the preamble by Dr BR Ambedkar, in which there is no mention of these words. And the socialism, secularism, that is actually a symbol of India or a symbol of civilisational ethos, then why was it not in the original draft?' Shaina NC questioned. Adding further, she said, 'This demand of Hosabale is in the context that India is now a republic and to use socialist secular or pseudo-secular words is unnecessary.' This came after RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale questioned the legitimacy of including the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution on Thursday. Dattatreya Hosabale had earlier stated that the Emergency imposed in the country on June 25, 1975, was the 'biggest blow to Indian democracy.' Hosabale made the remarks while addressing a program on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, jointly organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (under the Ministry of Culture), Ambedkar International Centre. He remarked that during the Emergency, terms like 'Socialism' and 'Secularism' were forcibly inserted into the Constitution -- a move that needs to be reconsidered today. He emphasised that the Emergency wasn't just a misuse of power, but an attempt to crush civil liberties. Millions were imprisoned and freedom of the press was suppressed. He said that those who imposed the Emergency and trampled the Constitution and democracy have never apologised. If they cannot apologise personally, they should do so on behalf of their ancestors. "Judiciary was suppressed, journalists were imprisoned": Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC slams Congress on 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'

New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC slammed Congress on the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency and said that Congress jailed opposition leaders, journalists and suppressed the judiciary in 1975. 'Today, June 25, is 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas', the day when the Congress Party destroyed the Constitution. This is the same Congress Party that declared the Emergency without any discussion or debate. Over 1 lakh opposition leaders, journalists, and activists were imprisoned, and the judiciary was suppressed. We are proud that PM Modi has given us our country back and has also shown that no dictatorship will prevail in India. Remembering this, on June 25, the Constitution and its significance come to mind,' Shaina NC told ANI. Meanwhile, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that the BJP has no right to politicise the Emergency. 'Our CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has told very clearly that whatever happened it was for the time the BJP has no right to do politics on these things because the BJP is attacking the Constitution now,' he said. Between 25 June 1975 and 21 March 1977, India was placed under a state of Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution. On 25 June 1975, the then-President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed issued the Emergency Proclamation under Article 352, citing threats from internal disturbance. This was the third Emergency in India's history, but the first one declared in peacetime. Earlier proclamations were during wars with China (1962) and Pakistan (1971). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using the 50th anniversary of the Emergency to divert public attention from issues like unemployment, inflation and demonetisation. Kharge said the Modi-led government was trying to cover up its 'failures and repeated lies' by marking the day as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas' and focusing on a chapter of history that had ended decades ago. Increasing maternity leave from 12 to 26 weeks with full salary is a major achievement for women. The decision to bring SCs, STs, and OBCs into the mainstream is limitless in its impact. ' Shaina added. She also highlighted government's efforts in lowering down the levels of poverty in the country. Shaina NC, 'We have eradicated poverty and demonstrated that the welfare of the poor is the hallmark of an accountable government. When we talk about Gareeb Kalyan, statistics show that 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty.
