"Why doesn't the EC hold a press conference?": Congress' Shama Mohamed slams ECI over their claims of foreign nationals in Bihar voter list

Kannur (Kerala) [India], July 14 (ANI): Congress leader Shama Mohamed on Monday slammed the Election Commission of India and asked the electoral body to hold a press conference to address their recent claim related to the presence of foreign nationals in the Bihar voter list. A large number of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar have been found by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with Aadhaar cards, domicile certificates and ration cards during house-to-house visits carried out as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar, according to sources. While speaking to ANI, Shama Mohamed asked why the ECI doesn't hold a press conference over the issue, stating that the Supreme Court has clearly said that the Election Commission has no right to decide the 'citizenship' of Indians in India. 'Why doesn't the Election Commission hold a press conference about all these Bangladeshis or Rohingyas, they claim were in the voter list of Bihar?... The Supreme Court clearly says that the EC has no right to decide on the citizenship of Indians in India. It is the right of the Home Ministry', Shama Mohamed told ANI. She asserted that the National Democratic Alliance won 30 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, which became 'null and void' due to ECI's claim of 'Rohingyas and Bangladeshis' in the Bihar voter list. 'Last year, the NDA won 30 seats in the Lok Sabha, so that all becomes null and void because they keep saying that there are Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in the voter list... We want to hear the truth', Mohamed said. ECI sources say that after a proper enquiry to be conducted from 1 Aug till 30 Aug, if found true, such names shall not be included in the final list to be published on 30 Sep 2025. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said till Saturday evening 80.11 per cent of electors in Bihar submitted their forms, adding that the commission is moving ahead to complete the collection of Enumeration Forms (EFs) before the stipulated time, July 25. Bihar will have assembly polls later in the year. (ANI)

"Propagating hatred, dividing people": Congress MP Massod on UP govt orders to display names along Kanwar route

New Delhi [India], July 9 (ANI): Congress MP Imran Masood on Wednesday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of propagating 'hatred and dividing people' amid the ongoing controversy over displaying shop owners' information along the Kanwar route. Speaking to ANI, Masood questioned the Yogi Adityanath government's move, asking whether they would install QR codes for job opportunities. 'Will they install QR codes for job opportunities as well?... By installing QR codes at festivals, they are propagating hatred and dividing people. Where do they want to take the country? Unemployment is a big issue, but they don't want to talk about it,' the Congress MP said. The Uttar Pradesh administration held an interstate meeting with Haryana officials on Tuesday to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims during the Kanwar Yatra. The administration launched QR codes to enhance transparency and accountability at food stalls and dhabas on the Kanwar route. The meeting was attended by the UP Director General of Police, Chief Secretary, and top officers from both states to coordinate efforts for the smooth and secure conduct of the pilgrimage. As part of the safety drive, the Food and Logistics Department inspected several shops and food outlets along the Faizabad Road route in Lucknow. Officials destroyed expired food products on the spot and warned vendors against selling substandard items. Pilgrims will now be able to scan the codes and give feedback on food quality using a mobile application. Earlier on Monday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the preparations for the Kanwar Yatra. He conducted a comprehensive aerial survey of the entire Yatra route from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad to Bijnor. During the inspection, he issued clear and strict instructions to officials to ensure seamless arrangements, security of devotees, and full respect for their religious sentiments. The directive from the UP government ignited criticism from the opposition parties, including Congress and AIMIM (All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen). Congress National Spokesperson Shama Mohamed said that this is an attempt to divert attention. She also mentioned that these things should never be allowed. 'This happens when you have no development and employment. You have to divert attention. You bring this out again to show this is a Muslim shop, this is a Hindu shop. So these things should never be allowed. I'm very proud of Rahul Gandhi, who stands for everyone...,' said Shama Mohamed. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also slammed the UP government over its directive. 'There are many hotels near the Muzaffarnagar bypass. These hotels have been there for years. Didn't the Kanwar Yatra start here 10 years ago? The Kanwar Yatra used to start peacefully. There was no unrest there. Why is all this happening now? Now, they are asking for Aadhaar cards from hoteliers. They are making shopkeepers remove their pants,' he said. The Yatra is scheduled to get underway from June 10. In the Kanwar Yatra procession, Kanwariyas collect water from a river and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu beliefs, Parshuram, a devotee of Shiva and Lord Vishnu's avatar, participated in the initial procession. Devotees across the country perform worship, fasting and pilgrimage dedicated to the Lord Shiva. (ANI)

UP Enforces Food Licenses Display On Kanwar Yatra Route, Opposition Hits Out

Lucknow: The UP government's move to make it mandatory for all shops along the Kanwar Yatra route to have proper licenses and clearly display the owner's original name has come in for criticism from the opposition. However, the state government has defended the move, with senior minister Sanjay Nishad saying that the accusation holds no weight. Mr Nishad said, "The party whose nameplate the public has torn down and thrown away, that party's words hold no weight... Our government makes decisions for the welfare of the public, which is why the public stands with us..." Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, said that every buyer had the right to know who they were purchasing things from. "The Samajwadi Party always engages in appeasement politics... We will maintain law and order in every situation... Every buyer has the right to know and understand from whom they are purchasing edible items, and this is also a regulation. If they are writing it or being asked to write it, what problem do they have with it?" he said. Senior Minister OP Rajbhar said, "The government strives to ensure that every festival is conducted plans the government is making, they are for all castes and religions. Different religions have different arrangements, so this was done to avoid any opposition always speaks against the ruling party, this is their only work" Earlier, reacting to the Kanwar Yatra 'nameplate' row Congress National Spokesperson Shama Mohamed said that this is an attempt to divert attention. Dirty train coach (Video shared by Congress spokesperson Dr Shama Mohamed on X) NEW DELHI: A controversy arose after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were allocated a train with damaged and unhygienic coaches for their journey from Tripura to Kashmir for Amarnath Yatra duty. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw acknowledged the situation and responded by suspending four officials and initiating an inquiry. The minister's response was shared by Railways support account, Railway Seva, where users had criticised the railways after videos of the train's poor condition was shared by Congress Spokesperson Dr Shama Mohamed on X. "This is what happens when the government's entire focus is on PR for a few flashy trains, while the masses are forced to travel like animals," she said, calling out PM Modi and Vaishnaw for "providing a filthy train—full of dirt, cockroaches, and broken seats—for our BSF soldiers heading for Amarnath Yatra duty. " The Railways, replied by sharing a video of Vaishnaw, in which he can be heard responding to reporter's question saying, "Action was taken on this yesterday itself. The train's rake was changed. Four officers who were responsible for this have been suspended." The suspended official includes the Coaching Depot Officer of Alipurduar and three senior Section Engineers of Alipurduar Division. "A few coaches of the train initially allotted to our jawans were in poor condition. The issue was brought to the attention of Indian Railways through an official letter. Following this, a replacement train was arranged. The jawans will now continue their journey," it said, quoted by ANI. The BSF also clarified amid reports of 1,200 BSF personnel refusing to travel for deployment to the Amarnath Yatra. The issue was reported to Indian Railways through an official letter. Subsequently, a replacement train was arranged, allowing the jawans to continue their journey. Approximately 1,200 BSF personnel from 13 companies were set to board a special train on June 6 from Udaipur, Tripura, to Jammu Tawi. The journey included several stops to collect troops from various locations across Tripura, Assam and West Bengal. The troops were part of additional central forces deployment for the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled from July 3 in Jammu and Kashmir. The BSF received the train on June 9, and upon inspection, troops documented the poor and unsanitary conditions of the coaches through video recordings. The widespread circulation of these videos showing the unsuitable state of the coaches prompted significant criticism, requiring senior railway officials' attention. On June 10, the Northeast Frontier Railway refuted allegations about providing substandard coaches, stating the filmed coach was destined for repairs and not intended for BSF use. The Amarnath Yatra will continue for 38 days until August 9. The Centre has authorised deployment of 581 CAPF companies, comprising approximately 42,000 personnel. Enhanced security measures are being implemented as the pilgrimage, previously targeted by terrorists, occurs following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in 26 casualties, primarily tourists.
