KSN Tan Sri Shamsul Azri receives DPPN award in Penang
GEORGE TOWN: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar described the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN) award conferred upon him as a driving force to further enhance public service delivery. The award, which carries the title 'Datuk Seri', was presented by Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang Tun Ramli Ngah Talib during an investiture ceremony at Dewan Seri Pinang. Shamsul Azri expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, 'This award further strengthens my resolve to improve the public service to a higher level of excellence.' He urged civil servants to remain dedicated in serving the nation and its people. Leading the list of 280 award recipients, Shamsul Azri was joined by Penang Malay Association president Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yussof Abdul Latiff and MMAG Holdings Berhad Executive Chairman Datuk Farhash Wafa Salvador, who also received the DPPN. The four-day ceremony, running until July 30, will honour 150 individuals with state orders and 1,380 with medals and honorary titles. The governor's birthday celebration commenced with a 17-gun salute, parade inspection, and guard of honour before the awards presentation. - Bernama

‘I was not invited': Anwar says he won't join KL protest urging him to quit
PUTRAJAYA, July 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reportedly said he will not be attending the 'Turun Anwar' protest in Kuala Lumpur today. According to The Star, Anwar made the remark after delivering his closing address at the 50th edition of the Prime Ministers' Cup Debate Competition in Putrajaya. 'Well, I was not invited,' he reportedly told reporters when asked about the rally. Thousands of demonstrators gathered near Sogo and Pertama Complex in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon for the 'Turun Anwar' protest. Authorities allowed the rally to proceed following a recent Federal Court ruling that struck down mandatory notification requirements under the Peaceful Assembly Act. Anwar had earlier said the government welcomes criticism and peaceful assembly, but urged protesters to act responsibly. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar has reminded civil servants that taking part in the rally could lead to disciplinary action.

Malaysia and Singapore forge public service ties
PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Singapore are exploring strategic cooperation in three main areas, namely government technology (GovTech), public housing and public sector reform, to strengthen public service delivery. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said these were the main areas of collaboration identified during his recent three-day official working visit to Singapore. 'We want to learn from Singapore where GovTech has already been implemented, whereas we are in the process of launching our own. 'Secondly, their affordable housing through the Singapore Housing Board. 'And thirdly, we want to learn about reforms in the public service,' he said after launching MRSM Malaysia Alumni Association's sports carnival. Shamsul Azri said Singapore welcomed the cooperation and exchange of best practices between the two countries to improve the quality of public service. Earlier, in his speech, Shamsul Azri urged Malaysians to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports and good nutrition. Citing Singapore as an example, he said their average life expectancy is 83.5 years, compared to about 75 years in Malaysia. 'We must remember that prevention is better than cure. To care is better than to cure,' he said.

Avoid ‘Turun Anwar' rally, civil servants told
The first 'Turun Anwar' rally held in Shah Alam on July 6 attracted about 300 participants, but the organisers say they expect as many as 300,000 to attend Saturday's event. PETALING JAYA : Civil servants have been told to avoid the 'Turun Anwar' rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Chief secretary to the government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said it was inappropriate for civil servants to take part in the rally 'because the action is not in accordance with the principle of loyalty to king and country as espoused by the Rukun Negara'. 'They are civil servants, how can they (be part of the rally?) Every day, every week, we recite the pledge (of) loyalty to king and country,' Bernama quoted him as telling reporters after launching a sports carnival in Putrajaya today. Perikatan Nasional has planned the rally at Dataran Merdeka to push for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's resignation. The organisers expect up to 300,000 participants, although a similar protest in Shah Alam earlier this month drew just over 300. Police were reported as saying, however, that they expect between 10,000 and 15,000 people to join the rally. Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said more than 2,000 officers and personnel will be deployed to facilitate the rally and ensure the safety of all involved.

"We want to learn from Singapore. Firstly, in regard to GovTech, as they have already implemented it, while we are in the process of launching our own. "Secondly, their affordable housing through the Singapore Housing Board. And thirdly, we want to learn about reforms in the public service," he said. He was speaking to reporters after launching the Association of Former Students of Mara Junior Science Colleges (Ansara) Sports Carnival 2025 here today. Shamsul Azri said Singapore welcomed the cooperation and exchange of best practices between the two countries to improve the quality of public service. "Singapore welcomed our proposals… we also had sessions with them to discuss strategic cooperation between the Malaysian government and the Singaporean government," he added. Earlier, in his speech, he urged Malaysians to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports and good nutrition. Citing Singapore as an example, he said their average life expectancy is 84 years, compared to about 73 to 74 years in Malaysia. "We must remember that prevention is better than cure.
