Formula E: Porsche and Nissan locked in intense battle for Team Championship

Image credit: Formula E Oliver Rowland of Nissan may be well ahead of Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche in terms of points, but their teams are currently locked in a neck-and-neck battle. Rowland has 171 points, while Wehrlein has 103 points in the Drivers' Standings. The Porsche driver will need a major turnaround — and hope the results start going in his favour — to catch up with the top-placed Rowland. Porsche vs Nissan: Neck-and-neck in Formula E Team Standings However, the situation is quite different in the Team Standings. Porsche are on top with 191 points, while Nissan are just one point behind with 190. This close competition has added an extra layer of excitement to the championship. Formula E's official social media handle shared a special post highlighting the tight battle between the two teams: 'The top is getting busy. @PorscheFormulaE and @NISMO battling it out for the Team Championship @Hankook_Sport #ShanghaiEPrix,' Formula E's handle posted. How points system works for Formula E teams Every team has two drivers. It depends on the positions the two drivers of the same team capture. The points of the two drivers combined in a race are considered as team points, and that's how team standings come into the picture. The race winner or the first-position driver gets 25 points, the second-placed gets 18 points, third-placed gets 15 points, fourth-placed gets 12 points, fifth-placed gets 10 points, sixth-placed gets 8 points, seventh-placed gets 6 points, eighth-placed gets 4 points, ninth-placed gets 2 points, and 10th-placed gets 1 point. Example: If a team's two drivers finish 3rd and 7th, they will earn 15 + 6 = 21 points for that race. The Formula E points system 1st: 25 Pts 2nd: 18 Pts 3rd: 15 Pts 4th: 12 Pts 5th: 10 Pts 6th: 8 Pts 7th: 6 Pts 8th: 4 Pts 9th: 2 Pts 10th: 1 Pt For Porsche, Wehrlein has clinched 103 points, while his teammate Antonio Felix da Costa has 88 points. For Nissan, Rowland has 171 points, but his teammate Norman Nato's poor show this season has cost the team dearly. Nato has just 19 points to his name. It's Rowland's sheer dominance this season that has kept his team in the Team Championship race. Cassidy Produces Dominant Lights-to-flag Victory on Rain-soaked Sunday in Shanghai

Amid torrid conditions, Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy converted from pole, leading every lap of the race to produce a first win of the season in the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix Round 11 at a rain-soaked Shanghai International topped a weather-truncated Groups-only qualifying session to seal pole and strode away into an immediate lead, where he was able to stay for the duration of Round 11 in tricky conditions as the rain continued to fall - though less heavily than throughout the morning. The win was a first lights-to-flag victory of the GEN3 Evo era and a return to the top step for the New champion Pascal Wehrlein got the better of his teammate through the first round of ATTACK MODE activations; the German leading home António Félix da Costa despite an early slip, as TAG Heuer Porsche capitalised on a Nissan non-score to round out the podium and propel the Stuttgart marque to the top of the FIA Teams' World Championship table - a full reversal after TAG Heuer Porsche failed to score on Hughes (Maserati MSG Racing) brought it home fourth, Jean-Éric Vergne (DS PENSKE) fifth and Nico Mueller (Andretti) finished sixth. The second Maserati of Stoffel Vandoorne finished seventh despite pirouetting two laps from the chequered flag, ahead of Robin Frijns (Envision Racing), Lucas di Grassi (Lola Yamaha ABT) and NEOM McLaren's Taylor Barnard. The difficult conditions caught out a number of other drivers including Jake Dennis, Nyck de Vries, Dan Ticktum and Sam Bird with standing water significant in spots around the circuit throughout the race. Even so, 21 of the 22 cars managed to make it to the end of the race as their race craft was pushed to the result sees Rowland's lead reduce to 68 points over Pascal Wehrlein (103 points), with da Costa in third (88 points) with only five races remaining this season. Porsche retakes the top spot in the FIA Teams' World Championship running from Nissan, while Nissan leads Porsche in the FIA Manufacturers' World Championship Cassidy, No. 37, Jaguar TCS Racing said: 'This weekend is a massive highlight. Really proud of all our guys. Qualifying form yesterday was huge for us, we were in the game, and I'm just proud that we've come back today and our pace was absolutely unbelievable - what a race. I feel like there have been so many wins that probably should have been ours at the end of last season that never happened, and it feels like we've been waiting a long time. That's certainly on your mind when you go through the last couple of laps, and now to get that monkey off the back is awesome.' Formula E changes Shanghai E-Prix schedule due to heavy rain forecast

Formula E will see a change to its planned Shanghai E-Prix schedule on Sunday, as heavy rain poses a threat to the running of the second race of the weekend. In Saturday's race, the first round of its double-header weekend in China, Maximilian Guenther secured his second victory for DS Penske in an action-packed race at the Shanghai International Circuit, with his team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne making it a maiden 1-2 for the American team. Advertisement Tomorrow will likely be a very different day, with heavy rain forecast across the municipality for the majority of Sunday. The amended schedule will now see Free Practice 3 moved an hour earlier to 07:00 local time, with the same for qualifying which is now at 09:00 local time in Shanghai. The race has also been reshuffled and lights out will begin at 13:00 local time. It's understood that if rain prevents any times being set in FP3 or qualifying, the results from the second free practice on Saturday will be used to form the starting grid, meaning Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa will be on pole and McLaren's Taylor Barnard will start alongside him on the front row. A spokesperson for Formula E confirmed: 'As the inclement weather forecast for Sunday's race is anticipated to impact the current sporting schedule for Round 11, the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix, together with the FIA, Teams and Manufacturers have taken the decision to amend the event timings in order to allow maximum track sessions to go ahead, taking into consideration rain and light conditions. Advertisement "The safety and experience of our fans, guests and personnel are our highest priority as we aim to put on the best racing spectacle possible here in China. We thank the organisers and local authorities for their prompt and unified response and we look forward to another successful Hankook Shanghai E-Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit tomorrow.' Advertisement As wet races impact the championship more regularly, with the past three events all affected by rain, the majority of drivers are discontent with the all-weather Hankook compound available to the grid. 'It is not a wet tyre, it doesn't work in the wet at any point,' McLaren's Sam Bird told after Monaco. 'Even the guys that came at the front can say it doesn't even work in the wet. All the drivers have said similar things [about introducing a full wet tyre] for quite a while, not just with the current supplier. "It has been a bit of, not an issue, but when you are racing and you're pushing the rubber, the rubber is going to move and manipulate itself and anytime you have a tread block of any sort that then can push water away, it's not going to be good in the dry. 'Similarly if you have a block that is good with dry running, it is never going to be able to dissipate water. It is very challenging. Advertisement 'The cars are getting so quick now, I think Formula E should consider bringing a form of wet tyre to the races.' Bridgestone has already been confirmed as the championship's sole tyre supplier from the 2026/2027 season onwards through to 2029/30 – the Gen4 era. It will become the third different tyre supplier the championship has seen since debuting in 2014, after Michelin starred things off as a founding partner until Hankook took over from the 2022/23 season.
