Search for missing 20-year-old near Squamish called off, RCMP say

Alex Nguyen was hiking with his family on Canada Day and was last seen on the Sea to Summit Trail that afternoon, according to authorities. Police and Squamish Search and Rescue launched a search for the missing man, and on Wednesday they asked hikers in the area to familiarize themselves with his photo and description. More than 50 people searched for Nguyen from the ground, and 'several helicopters and drones' searched from the air, police said. 'The full area was thoroughly searched and the individual was not located, therefore at this time the search has been called off,' the RCMP update reads. 'No further details available at this time.'

Search underway for man missing near Shannon Falls

Police and rescue crews are asking the public for help as they search for a man who went missing in in Shannon Falls Provincial Park on Canada Day. Alexander Nguyen, 20, was hiking with his family Tuesday and was last seen on the Sea to Summit Trail in the afternoon, according to authorities. 'Squamish RCMP are working with Squamish Search and Rescue and are combing the area. Although we are not requesting assistance with the ground search, any hikers in the area should be aware of his photo and description,' a news release from Mounties said. Squamish Search and Rescue said the last ping from the man's cellphone was at 3:30 p.m. on July 1. Nguyen is described as 5'8' tall, weighing 121 pounds. He has long black hair, tied up in a bun and was wearing grey shorts, a tank top and flip flops when last seen, according to police. Anyone who sees him is urged to call Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100.
