UAE launches largest water supply project from Egypt to southern Gaza

UAE's 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3' has announced the launch of the largest desalinated water supply project from Egypt to southern Gaza, as part of its emergency response to the deepening water crisis in the besieged Strip. At a press conference held at the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) headquarters in Deir al Balah, the operation revealed that a new 315mm water transmission line, stretching 6.7 kilometres, is now under construction. The pipeline will connect the UAE-established desalination plant on the Egyptian side to a displacement area between Khan Younis and Rafah governorates. The project is expected to provide 15 litres of desalinated water per person daily, benefiting around 600,000 residents in southern Gaza, where more than 80 per cent of water infrastructure has been destroyed due to the dire ongoing developments in Gaza Strip. Sharif Al Nayrab, media director for Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 in Gaza, stated, 'This new water pipeline is more than a rapid response to the urgent thirst crisis in Gaza; it is a continuation of the UAE's unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, particularly in the face of the humanitarian disaster caused by war.' He added that the UAE has consistently led relief efforts in Gaza, from building desalination stations and delivering water tankers to drilling wells and maintaining water networks, culminating in this vital initiative aimed at securing safe drinking water for the most affected areas. Omar Shatat, Deputy Director-General of the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility for Technical Affairs, expressed gratitude to the UAE, which has been on the frontlines of humanitarian support since the onset of the war. He noted that UAE-funded projects have helped municipalities and civil society institutions maintain essential services amid extremely challenging conditions. Khalil Abu Shammala, a representative of civil society in Gaza, praised the UAE's crucial role and the humanitarian projects implemented under the Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. He also emphasised that initiatives like this provide residents with access to safe and healthy water, strengthening their resilience in the face of persistent crises. This initiative marks a new chapter in Operation Chivalrous Knight 3's efforts to repair critical infrastructure in Gaza, particularly in the water sector, and is part of broader UAE-led humanitarian operations to mitigate the disaster and support the steadfastness of the local population.

UAE launches 4th phase of Gaza water supply project

DUBAI: The UAE has launched the fourth phase of its humanitarian water supply initiative in the Gaza Strip this week. The project is part of the ongoing 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3,' aimed at alleviating the suffering of Palestinian civilians amid a worsening humanitarian crisis. The UAE-supported project focuses on maintaining and restoring central wells across Gaza's municipalities, ensuring the continuity of essential water services. This latest phase includes the repair of 28 non-operational wells across several governorates, a move expected to benefit nearly 700,000 residents. Sharif Al-Nayrab, media director for Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, praised the long-standing support of Emirati humanitarian organizations for Gaza's critical sectors. 'This initiative reflects the UAE's firm commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, especially during times of acute need,' he said. This is the fourth water-related project implemented under the UAE initiative. Earlier phases included daily distribution of water via tankers, the drilling of emergency wells along southern coastal areas and the construction of submersible wells to increase supply. Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 has provided critical relief and development efforts across Gaza, delivering food, health and utility support.

UAE launches 4th phase of water project in Gaza

''Operation Chivalrous Knight 3'' has launched the fourth phase of its water supply project for residents of the Gaza Strip, by supporting the maintenance of central wells across the municipalities of the Strip. The initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU), with the aim of enhancing the municipalities' capacity to deliver water to Palestinian citizens amid the escalating humanitarian crisis and ensuring the continuity of basic services. This phase includes the repair of approximately 28 non-operational wells across various governorates in Gaza, aiming to provide water access to around 700,000 people, thereby alleviating their harsh living conditions. Sharif Al Nayrab, Media Director of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 in Gaza, praised the efforts of UAE humanitarian organisations and charitable associations, which have consistently supported all sectors in Gaza. Key supporters of this project include the Sharjah Charity International, the Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Foundation, and Dar Al Ber Society. Mohammad Arbaei, Deputy Chairman of the Support Committee for Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 in Gaza, explained that this is the fourth water-related project, following three previous initiatives: the distribution of water tankers delivering water daily to thousands of citizens, the drilling of primitive "Nazzaz' wells along the southern coasts, and the drilling of submersible wells to improve water access for residents suffering daily. Omar Shatat, Deputy Director General for Technical Affairs at the CMWU in Gaza, stated that the humanitarian initiative has served as a key lifeline and emergency support effort to ease the suffering of Gaza's population. He highlighted that the fourth phase of the central well maintenance project is one of the operation's most impactful initiatives to date. Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 continues its humanitarian mission across all governorates of Gaza, aiming to alleviate the hardships faced by residents and facilitate their access to essential and life-sustaining services.
