Arab Parliament for the Child welcomes delegations to Sharjah
The session will be held from 22 to 26 July 2025, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with the support and close follow-up of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League. Djibouti and Palestine Among the First to Arrive Djibouti and Palestine were the first delegations to arrive at UAE airports, followed by the remaining participating countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Libya, the Sultanate of Oman, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Iraq, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Lebanon, the State of Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. In total, 14 countries are represented, with 56 child parliamentarians accompanied by official representatives from their national parliaments and child-focused institutions. Warm Reception at UAE Airports Delegations were warmly welcomed by reception teams from the General Secretariat of the Arab Parliament for the Child, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Sharjah Consultative Council and the Parliament's institutional partners. Children and accompanying officials were received with generous Emirati hospitality, provided with all necessary facilities, transported to their accommodation in Sharjah, and briefed on the session's schedule and planned activities. A Dialogue Platform on Cultural Identity The event forms part of the Arab Parliament for the Child's commitment to empowering Arab children to voice their perspectives on childhood issues, enhance their dialogue skills, and strengthen their awareness of Arab cultural identity. This year, the child parliamentarians will discuss the theme 'The Cultural Identity of the Arab Child' during a wide-ranging dialogue session that reflects their visions and provides a pioneering Arab model of parliamentary work for children. Message from the Secretary-General On this occasion, His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child, welcomed the arrival of the delegations, noting that Sharjah's hosting of this significant event reflects the visionary leadership's dedication to child development. He said: 'We are pleased to welcome Arab child parliamentarians from across the region to Sharjah, a city that embraces their dreams and offers them a platform to speak, engage, and practise their parliamentary roles in a safe and open environment. The participation of 14 Arab countries underscores the growing status of the Arab Parliament for the Child and embodies the spirit of Arab unity for a brighter future for our children.' Sharjah to host Arab Parliament for the Child
The event, supported by the League of Arab States and monitored by its Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, will welcome parliamentary child delegates from across the Arab world to take part in eight diverse activities that reflect a shared Arab identity and a strategic focus on empowering children. Activities to enhance skills and cultural identity Delegations will arrive on 22 July, followed by a full programme organised by the Parliament's General Secretariat in collaboration with UAE government, educational, and cultural institutions. Highlights include a visit to the 'Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators', where children will participate in a 'Skills Lab' promoting leadership, creativity, and teamwork. Sessions and workshops on parliamentary practice The parliament board will convene at the parliament's headquarters, followed by the second general session on 26 July at the Sharjah Consultative Council. The session will centre on the cultural identity of Arab children. The day prior will feature an intensive workshop preparing young parliamentarians in parliamentary tools, structured discussion, and presentation skills. Magazine launch and strategic commitment The 12th issue of The Young Parliamentarian magazine will also be launched during the event, offering a platform for children's voices and initiatives while documenting their parliamentary journey. Sharjah: A hub for empowering young leaders Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the APC, emphasised that hosting this session in Sharjah reflects the Emirate's leading role in supporting and empowering Arab youth. It aligns with the Arab vision of nurturing future leaders through structured, collaborative, and value-driven programmes. Arab Children: Nurturing cultural identity and leadership
The session will feature broad participation from parliament members from various Arab countries. This comes as part of APC ongoing preparations for the second session of its fourth term at the headquarters of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) in the United Arab Emirates. Fostering Arab heritage The session reflects the great interest APC places in instilling and consolidating the concepts of Arab cultural identity in children's minds, and in fostering pride in the cultural and value-based heritage of Arab countries. This will instil a sense of belonging and enhance pride in language, history, and culture, contributing to building generations capable of defending their values and identity in the face of accelerating challenges. Empowering Arab children The session will be held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support and follow-up of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. This reflects the shared Arab commitment to empowering Arab children to perform their dialogue and expressive roles within an effective institutional environment. The session will be chaired by Elias Al Maani, President of APC in the Sultanate of Oman, in a move that affirms the principle of empowering children and motivating them to assume leadership roles that enhance their skills and open up horizons for them to think, discuss, and present visions and proposals on issues that affect their reality and aspirations. Cultural identity of the Arab child His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of APC, emphasised that the Cultural Identity Session comes at an important time when the emerging generations need to reconnect with their rich Arab culture and open up to the world while adhering to their roots and authenticity. Al Barout stated that the Parliament has been keen to ensure that its sessions provide a free and responsible platform for the children of the Arab world, where they can express their visions and participate in building their future with confidence and determination. Al Barout added that holding this session in the Emirate of Sharjah, the Arab Capital of Culture, under the generous patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, is a source of pride and honour, embodying the UAE's vision to support and empower children at the Arab and international levels. SCC discusses cooperation with Russian, Indian delegations
SHARJAH, 3rd July 2025 (WAM) -- Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC), received two delegations from Russia and India at the council's headquarters, in the presence of several council members. The meetings were part of the council's ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation, expand areas of knowledge and economic coordination, and promote the exchange of global expertise. In the first meeting, Dr Al Nuaimi welcomed Dr Hossam Azzam, Education Ambassador at the Academy of Financial Sciences under the Government of the Russian Federation and Head of the "Majdalina" group for international relations, as well as Anya Goryacheva, Coordinator of Russian-Emirati Economic Relations. During the meeting, Dr Al Nuaimi was briefed on the Academy's work and its efforts to strengthen academic ties with educational institutions in Sharjah, foremost among them the University of Sharjah. The Russian delegation expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to Dr Al Nuaimi for his continuous efforts to foster channels of cooperation and communication between Sharjah and Moscow. These efforts contribute to consolidating academic and economic partnerships between both sides. Dr Hossam Azzam extended a formal invitation to Dr Al Nuaimi to visit Moscow as a guest of honour at the International Financial Forum, organised by the Financial University, to benefit from his broad experience in governance and strategic foresight. During the meeting, views were exchanged on the importance of building sustainable educational and knowledge-based relationships between academic institutions in the UAE and their counterparts in Russia, in a way that serves the ambitions of students and researchers and strengthens Sharjah's knowledge role globally. Meanwhile, Dr Al Nuaimi also received Dr Gulrez Sheikh, an expert in Indian strategic affairs who is currently visiting the UAE. The meeting addressed several issues related to the strategic relations between the UAE and India, and the role of cultural and intellectual understanding in supporting regional stability and development. Dr Al Nuaimi stressed during both meetings the importance of such encounters in reinforcing international relations and promoting cultural and knowledge-based communication. He pointed out that the SCC is keen to open avenues of cooperation with various regional and international institutions. This commitment stems from the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to establish Sharjah as a centre for cultural and intellectual enlightenment on a global level.
