SINGAPORE – Local actress-model Sheila Sim posted on Instagram that she attended a four-day hair-cutting course following an unsatisfactory trim she gave her daughter. In the video posted by Sim on July 10, she appears focused as she trims a mannequin's hair, under the guidance of a professional in a black top and jeans. Sim said the course was 'sponsored by the Government' as she had used her SkillsFuture credits. The model wrote in her caption: 'I've always been cutting my daughters' hair since they were babies. But as they grow, their hair length and texture have become increasingly difficult to manage. 'With no formal experience, I attempted to trim about 5cm off Layla's hair... which ended up being more like 10cm.' She said that when her daughter first looked in the mirror after the cut, the child said: 'I hate my hair.' While Layla eventually reassured her three days later that the hair was 'starting to look like hers again', the 41-year-old mother wrote that the haircut was 'awful' and 'really bad'. This incident spurred Sim to search online for hair-cutting lessons, which led her to sign up for a four-day course at Kimage Hairdressing School. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Sheila Sim takes haircutting course after giving daughter bad trim, Entertainment News
When an act of service for a loved one goes wrong and makes them feel worse, you end up feeling terrible too. Local actress Sheila Sim took to Instagram today (July 10) to share that she had used her SkillsFuture credits to attend a haircutting course. In the Reel, the 41-year-old goes about cutting, combing and styling a mannequin head's long hair under the guidance of other hairdressers. The catalyst for her taking up the course was a bad trim she'd given her four-year-old daughter Layla. Sheila, who is married to non-celebrity Deon Woo, also has daughter Skyla aged two. In her caption, she wrote: "I've actually been cutting my daughters' hair since they were babies. But as they grow, their hair length and texture have become increasingly difficult to manage. "With no formal experience, I attempted to trim about 5cm off Layla's hair… which ended up being more like 10cm. "The moment she saw herself in the mirror, she turned to me and said, 'I hate my hair'. Even though she was smiling when she said it, and even though she reassured me three days later that her hair was 'starting to look like hers again', those words pierced right through my heart." She added it wasn't that her ego was bruised, but it was knowing the girl would had to "live with that awful haircut". Fellow local celebrities took to the comments to show their support for Sheila's endeavours, including actors Desmond Tan, Felicia Chin, Lin Meijiao and entrepreneur Tjin Lee. Sheila herself underwent a hair transplant procedure last November to fix her "permanent bald spot". Lasting over two days, she documented the journey in a Highlight on her Instagram page. She shared that "addressing my hair loss has been both exciting and nerve-wracking" but she was confident she had made the right decision. Roblox avatar and lantern: Star Awards 2025 looks that made us go 'huh'?, Entertainment News
Fashion is certainly something subjective — what wows you can have the opposite effect on another. And at Star Awards 2025 last night (July 6), some looks definitely hit us with a "I probably wouldn't wear that" moment. Here's a look at some of the more interesting looks we saw. Chen Liping We were especially tickled by Chen Liping's outfit, where her dramatically boxy red top framed her shoulders in a way that resembled a default Roblox avatar. Chantalle Low Chantalle Ng first wore an ivory ruffled gown with a big train for the red carpet and later changed to a bubble dress for her first hosting gig, which reminded us of a pretty lantern. Sheila Sim At first glance, the ivory loose-fitting dress haloed Sheila Sim in an angelic aura. But upon closer look, the sheer skirt made us think of three-ply tissue with layers peeled off at the bottom. According to a post on her Instagram page, the outfit's true inspiration was "beautiful jellyfish" and that sounds just about right, too. Sheryl Ang Sheryl Ang's androgynous look was glaringly different from the rest of the celebrities'. She went for an oversized pinstriped grey suit and trousers, with a vintage-core floral scarf draped from her neck to chest. Her hair was slicked all the way back and a pair of yellow-tinted glasses framed her face. Overall, we felt that this outfit really put the "old" in "old money". Tasha Low If you love Tasha Low and plants, her red-carpet outfit might delight you with its terrarium energy. She wore a light green faux feather jacket, but from afar, it looked like moss balls stuck together. Mildly cute and huggable, but it definitely took us by surprise. Zhu Zeliang Layering is in, but Zhu Zeliang's fit is a bit of an out-fit. We see the vision with the white dress shirt beneath his textured black blazer, but it looked like a preschooler had too much fun with their scissors and accidentally snipped off the fabric.
