Record-Breaking SSC Ultimate Aero Destroyed in Public Stunt, Founder Calls It Shameful

Read the full story on Modern Car Collector A supercar once celebrated as America's fastest vehicle met an explosive and controversial end over the weekend—by design. The 2007 SSC Ultimate Aero, which set a Guinness-verified production car speed record in 2007 by reaching 256.14 mph, was destroyed during the 'Thunder at the Mountain' monster truck rally in West Richland, Washington. The act was reportedly carried out at the behest of its owner, who instructed organizers that the car must not survive the event intact. The car was crushed by multiple monster trucks, then torn apart by a mechanical 'dragon' wrecker and finally torched by a flamethrower, leaving little more than carbon-fiber shards and charred remains. The move stunned members of the automotive community, including SSC North America founder Jerod Shelby, who called the destruction 'a shameful loss of automotive history.' 'There are only 24 of these cars in existence, and this one set a world record that dethroned Bugatti,' Shelby said in a statement to media. 'It was a symbol of American engineering.' Launched in 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero was powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.3-liter V8 that produced 1,180 horsepower. In September of that year, the car overtook the Bugatti Veyron's top speed record on a closed stretch of road in Washington State. Chuck Bigelow, then 72, piloted the run without a helmet, backed by a small team of engineers. Though the engine had been removed before the rally stunt, the car's body and provenance remained intact. The destruction appears to stem from a personal dispute between the car's anonymous owner and the manufacturer, although specific details have not been disclosed. With the car now gone, only 23 Ultimate Aeros remain. Automotive historians say the loss erases a tangible piece of modern American racing heritage. 'It's the equivalent of lighting the Wright brothers' plane on fire,' one enthusiast remarked. Images Via Facebook/Supercars México - Autos Exóticos de México Follow us on Facebook and Twitter

Woman Finds Dog on Bed Wanting Cuddles, Hysterics as It Isn't Hers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A woman found next door's dog sleeping in her bed, melting hearts across the internet. Shelby (@itsshelbs) shared footage of her neighbor's dog, Beni, in her bed, which amassed 93,000 likes and 307,900 views. "This isn't my dog. This is my neighbor's dog that can fit through the fence and just shows up at our house multiple times a day for cuddles," she wrote as the text overlay of the video. "We luv you, Beni," she captioned the post. The video shows Beni, a golden colored dog, sweetly nestled in bed whilst wagging his tail. Why Do Neighbor Dogs Roam? Many pet owners find themselves in a bind when dogs wander into neighboring yards—sometimes causing mess, and other times, like Beni, just seeking affection. If you discover a neighbor's dog trespassing in your garden, and you don't want them to, the first recommendation is to communicate with the owner, and, if needed, install fencing or deterrent signs, according to home security company Reolink. Can Dogs Find Their Way Home? Relying on scent and memory, dogs possess an incredible sense of smell—about 10,000 times stronger than humans. They can recognize familiar scents and retrace home routes, depending on their instincts, environment, distance, and motivation, according to TikTokers Weigh In The video sparked a torrent of relatable comments. "Ngl I'd be sooooooo butt hurt if my dog left me multiple times a day to get cuddles from someone else, It's like getting cheated on LOL," shared one user. "He's living a double life," said Alex. "Hes got dual citizenship," joked Robyn. "I'm his lawyer. He is simply spreading joy and love and cheer," said Diana. "He said 'Well it takes a village, doesn't it Shelby??!'" added Ann. "My dog would be doing this all day if he had the option. He loves 'new' people," said Samia. "My dog would absolutely do this w my Nextdoor neighbors if he wasn't so limited by his tinyness," said another user. "My cat was like this but also bc they gave her food eventually but now they got a divorce and moved away so now she's back home," another user added. Anna Wintour's love life: The untold story of her romantic life

Anna Wintour may be the queen of cold stares and front-row fashion diplomacy, but her love life? Surprisingly human—and more layered than her signature Chanel skirts. While the Vogue editor-in-chief has spent decades curating the world's most powerful fashion images, she's kept her personal affairs tightly zipped. Still, over the years, enough details have trickled out to piece together a quietly fascinating romantic story. Let's start with the man who was by her side for over 15 years: Shelby Bryan, a Texas-born telecom tycoon with the kind of all-American charisma that seemed almost too casual for Wintour's razor-sharp aura. They began dating in 1999, and their relationship was instantly tabloid gold. Not only because of who Anna is, but because Shelby was still married when their romance began. This sparked whispers that Wintour was stepping into homewrecker territory—a plot twist more fitting for a soap opera than fashion week. Still, Shelby and Anna stuck together for years. He moved into her Manhattan townhouse, attended galas, and even occasionally smiled in public (a big deal in Wintour World). For a woman famously icy and guarded, Shelby brought out a softer side. Friends said she'd giggle around him. But by 2020, things had changed. Whispers of a split began circulating—he was reportedly back in Texas, and Anna had stopped wearing the couple's signature social uniform: her polite, practiced smile when Shelby was around. Romance aside, Anna Wintour's relationships have always been deeply intertwined with her work. Her first marriage, to child psychiatrist David Shaffer, was her most private chapter. They were together for over 15 years, had two children, and parted ways quietly in the late '90s. There was no Vogue cover announcing the divorce. Just the slow, silent unraveling of two busy people going in different directions. In the end, Anna's love life mirrors her wardrobe: minimal but deliberate, curated yet never obvious. She's never spilled to tabloids or used relationships for PR. There are no teary interviews, no tell-all memoirs. So yes, behind those ever-present sunglasses is a woman who's not just a fashion icon, but someone who's loved deeply, quietly, and on her own terms. And honestly, that's the most stylish thing of all.

⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious One of the most historically significant Shelby Mustangs ever produced—a 1965 Shelby GT350 bearing serial number SFM5S033—will head to auction this July, drawing interest from collectors around the globe. Built by Shelby American Inc. in Venice, California, this early-production Shelby GT350 is number 33 of just 562 produced in the model's inaugural year, and it comes with a well-documented ownership and restoration history. Finished in classic Wimbledon White with Guardsmen Blue Le Mans stripes, the two-door coupe retains its original performance pedigree and factory-correct components. Delivered new through Hi-Performance Motors in Los Angeles, California, the car was originally sold for $4,007.75—a figure confirmed by an original invoice included in its sale documentation. The authenticity of the vehicle has been verified by Shelby expert Howard Pardee, and its originality further endorsed in correspondence with Curt Vogt of Cobra Automotive, who also previously owned and restored the car. Under the hood lies the original K-Code 289-cubic inch V8, rated at 306 horsepower, paired with its numbers-matching T10-M 4-speed transmission and matching rear end, featuring a factory 3.89 Detroit Locker differential. The restoration was completed using an array of new old stock (NOS) parts and preserved original components, including the radiator, carburetor, distributor, cooling fan, and Shelby Cragar wheels wrapped in correct Goodyear Blue Dot tires. Inside, the car retains its radio-delete dashboard, fully restored factory seatbelts, and original steering wheel, also meticulously refurbished. Key features include a trunk-mounted battery, side exhaust, Koni shocks, date-coded Carlite glass, and early sill plates—details that highlight its early production status. This rotisserie-restored GT350 is expected to draw high bids, as it represents not only a cornerstone of Shelby's legacy but also one of the most complete and accurately preserved examples of its kind. The car will cross the block on Saturday of auction weekend, though the auction house has not yet released an estimated value. See it here.
