Man arrested in Angelina County for East Texas church burglary
ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — A man was arrested by Angelina County officials on Thursday for allegedly burglarizing Roganville Baptist Church in Jasper County. Man arrested in Livingston after multiple drugs found inside his apartment According to Angelina County Sheriff Tom Selman, Jasper County officials placed a warrant for Gavyn Randall Deaton's arrest as a suspect in the burglary of the Roganville Baptist Church. Jasper County Sheriff's Office said Angelina County deputies stopped and arrested Deaton without incident at around 12:45 p.m. Officials investigating after Smith County hit-and-run leaves bicyclist dead Selman said Deaton is facing three burglary charges and is currently booked in the Angelina County Jail. Angelina County Sheriff's Office takes over services for City of Hudson
ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – After Hudson's police department was disbanded, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office has officially taken over law enforcement duties. City votes to dissolve Hudson Police Department citing leadership, budget constraints Earlier this month, city officials made the decision, citing factors like leadership turnover, personnel matters and budget constraints. During their regular court meeting this week, Angelina County Commissioners heard a presentation from Sheriff Tom Selman about the official contract that would need to be approved. In the agreement, the sheriff's office would provide the following services for the city limits of Hudson: Criminal investigations Major crime investigations Crime scene technicians and analysis Inmate work crews Animal control Coffee City Police Department deactivated, police chief terminated Sheriff Selman says they've already been providing these services for a few weeks and this type of agreement is not out of the norm. 'This is not that unusual. It's just unusual because it's happening here,' Selman said. 'There are sheriff's offices all over the state that have contracts with municipal governments to provide those services. In the law enforcement job marketplace, it's difficult for the small agencies to compete because they don't have as much to offer as a larger agency.' Selman also mentioned that Trinity County entered into a similar agreement with the City of Groveton sometime back. The motion was passed by the court unanimously. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
