MCE Highlights Ethical, Moral Dimensions of Artificial Intelligence at Jakarta Book Fair
Mohamed Mandour As part of its active participation in the 2025 Islamic Book Fair (IBF) in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, the Muslim Council of Elders organized an intellectual seminar titled 'Promoting Digital Awareness and the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence' during the fair's opening day. The seminar witnessed notable attendance, particularly from youth and individuals interested in the intersection of modern technology with human and religious values. The seminar began with a keynote address by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Muhammad Quraish Shihab, a renowned exegete of the Quran, former Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, and member of the Muslim Council of Elders. In his remarks, Prof. Shihab emphasized that Islam does not separate knowledge from ethics, noting that the first revealed verse—'Read in the name of your Lord'—establishes a foundational link between science and moral responsibility. He warned that without a grounding in spiritual and human values, science and technology, including artificial intelligence, could become tools of misguidance rather than enlightenment. He further cautioned against relying on AI for issuing legal or religious verdicts, as the data it relies on may stem from cultural and religious contexts that do not align with Islamic traditions. Prof. Shihab identified three core ethical principles that must govern the use of modern technology: human dignity, public benefit, and moral accountability. Dr. Rezzy Eko Caraka, a leading researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency, presented on the practical dimensions of artificial intelligence applications. He stressed that modern technologies should remain tools that serve humanity, not replacements for human decision-making or thought. Dr. Caraka highlighted several ethical challenges associated with AI, including violations of privacy, excessive cognitive reliance on technology, and the environmental impact of server operations. He called for fostering a culture of responsible and mindful technology use and advocated for the development of ethical and intellectual frameworks grounded in religious values. In a remarkable intervention, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, underlined the need for comprehensive digital sovereignty to confront the challenges of artificial intelligence—starting with the development of localized content. He warned that the absence of local content in AI datasets could distort religious concepts and erode cultural identity. Prof. Dr. Pratikno urged institutions like the Muslim Council of Elders to lead efforts in developing AI models that reflect the particularity of Islamic values and cultural authenticity. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

British F-35B Fighter Jet, Which Is Grounded In Kerala, On Sale On OLX? A Fact-Check
New Delhi: A British F-35B fighter jet, which made an unscheduled stop at Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Saturday, has remained grounded since then. While authorities worked on ensuring the safe departure of the jet, one of the world's most expensive and advanced combat aircraft, multiple posts on social media claimed the British F-35B Lightning II was up for sale on OLX. The screenshot appeared to be that of a post on OLX, and it included a picture of the F-35 fighter jet. It said the aircraft was up for sale for USD 4 million. The viral post, however, is fake. India is not for Beginners ???????????? Indians put Royal Navy's #F35B stealth fighter jet for sale on OLX, which has been grounded in Kerala's #Thiruvananthapuram airport for 6 days. — Rocket Singh Loki Head Chef @ Gryffindor भोजनालय (@DegreeWaleBabu) June 20, 2025 Who the hell did this! LMAO. Royal Navy's F-35B for sale. — Shihab (@ShihabudeenMb) June 18, 2025 F35 for Sale on OLX at $4M ???????????? #Trump — Jamin (@JaminrpP) June 20, 2025 Malayalis have put the British F-35 fighter jet on sale online in OLX ???????? — Mini Nair (@minicnair) June 17, 2025 The post also mentioned a few of the aircraft's specifications, including automatic parking, brand-new tyres and a battery. However, no such post was found on OLX's official website. Additionally, the items for sale on OLX from Kerala were priced in US dollars, which further suggests the post was fabricated. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is currently guarding the British F-35B fighter jet, which is part of the UK's HMS Prince of Wales Carrier Strike Group, currently deployed in the Indo-Pacific region. The carrier group recently completed joint maritime exercises with the Indian Navy. Since its arrival, British aviation engineers have been working intensively to fix a technical snag related to the aircraft's hydraulic systems. Despite their efforts, the issue remains unresolved, delaying the fighter jet's return to its mother ship.

Approver reinstated as accused in fake note case tied to Dawood network
Instances of approvers, particularly in NIA cases, turning hostile are extremely rare. The NIA submitted a certificate under Section 308 of CrPC, which deals with the trial of a person who fails to comply with the conditions of pardon before the NIA Court last month. 'The certificate submitted by the prosecutor is accepted and the witness is made an accused in this case, for which a separate trial is to be conducted,' the court ordered. Originally the sixth accused, Shihab was made an approver and designated the 32nd prosecution witness. He failed to appear when initially summoned for trial and eventually turned hostile during witness examination. 'Counterfeit notes printed in Pak, smuggled into India' According to the NIA, the counterfeit notes seized were printed in Pakistan and smuggled into India with the intent to destabilise the Indian economy. As per the investigation, Pradeep and Haji had travelled to Abu Dhabi in June 2011, met Aboobacker and procured the fake currency. The NIA probe had revealed that Dawood's close aide Aftab Batki was controlling his FICN business from the UAE. Batki was made accused in a similar case related to FICN seizure from Nedumbassery in 2013. The investigation revealed that origin of FICNs in both cases were linked to Dawood's syndicate in the UAE.

Fake certificate racket busted in Kerala's Kasaragod, three arrested
The Hosdurg police have uncovered a racket based in Kanhangad in Kasaragod, Kerala, involving the fabrication and distribution of fake certificates and identification documents. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the racket, which allegedly produced forged university certificates, Aadhaar cards, passports, international driving licences and work experience documents. The arrested have been identified as K. Santhosh (45), owner of a computer centre in Puthiyakotta, P. Raveendran (51), a native of South Kanhangad currently residing in Muzhakoth, Cheruvathur and H.K. Shihab (38). The arrests were made following a coordinated operation led by DySP Babu Peringeth and sub inspectors T. Akhil and Sharangdharan. Acting on a tip-off, the police carried out searches at multiple locations, including the suspects' houses and the premises of the computer centre. Over a thousand counterfeit documents, hard disks, mobile phones and computers were seized during the raids. At Shihab's residence, the police discovered printers, blank certificates and stacks of special paper used to mimic official documents. In a parallel raid at Raveendran's house, led by Cheemeni Inspector Anil Kumar, more forged materials and equipment were recovered. According to Mr. Peringeth, the trio formed a well-oiled unit with defined roles. Raveendran, an experience DTP operator, was responsible for crafting the fake documents using digital editing tools. Once prepared, the documents were printed and processed at Shihab's house, who also took charge of distributing them to customers. Santhosh, the owner of the establishment, reportedly provided the infrastructure and was fully aware of the operation. 'The volume of forged materials seized and the variety of documents produced suggest that this is not a one-off incident. It is a deep-rooted racket with possible connections outside the district,' said Mr. Peringeth. He added that detailed questioning of the accused is ongoing and more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses. Th police suspect that the racket was operating for several years and may have catered to clients across the State and even outside Kerala, offering on-demand fake documents for academic, employment and immigration purposes. The arrested individuals are set to be produced in court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the police are combing through seized data and communications to identify potentials clients and collaborators.
