Expansion of Shirdi Airport be completed before upcoming Kumbh Mela: Maha CM
Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Thursday, directed the administration to complete the renovation and expansion work of Shirdi airport and make it fully operational before the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. He chaired the meeting to review the ongoing works of Shirdi airport and the Greenfield airport at Purandar in Pune district. Taking a detailed review of the expansion and renovation work of Shirdi Airport, Chief Minister Fadnavis said: "The work of a new air traffic control building, integrated cargo building and terminal building at the airport in Shirdi is proposed. These works must be completed before the start of the upcoming Kumbh Mela. However, these works must be expedited and completed on time. If necessary, additional manpower should be used for this. Also, the procurement and structural design work required for the airport should be completed in the coming weeks." "Shirdi Airport is the nearest airport to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airport. Shirdi Airport can be used for parking small aircraft here. In this regard, if necessary, more land should be acquired to create facilities at Shirdi Airport from now onwards," he added. "As far as Purandar Airport is concerned, survey has been done. Therefore, the Pune District Collector should immediately start the necessary process to acquire the land required for this airport so that the work of the airport can start soon. After the opening of this airport, the air service network in Maharashtra will further expand," the Chief Minister said. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said: "The immediate action should be taken to ensure that the work on Purandar Airport starts soon. Also, there should be facilities for landing large aircraft there, for which necessary care should be taken from now on. There should also be an arrangement for an aircraft hangar at this airport." Swati Pandey, Vice-Chairman of Maharashtra Airport Development Authority, gave a presentation on the work of Shirdi and Purandar Airports. The representatives of the consulting company and contractor company appointed for Shirdi Airport also gave information.

Approval for two helipads, eight parking bays at Shirdi airport
Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday approved the construction of two helipads and eight parking bays at Shirdi Airport, along with the airport's expansion and modernisation, as per communication from the chief minister's office (CMO). The decision comes ahead of the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. The approval was granted during the 91st board meeting of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde was also present at the meeting. Swati Pandey, vice-chairperson and managing director of MADC, made a detailed presentation on the various projects. The CM also directed officials to submit a plan for the extension of the runway at Amravati Airport, citing the growing industrial network in the region. He further stressed the need to develop a revenue model for the airport. Highlighting that the cargo terminal work at Shirdi Airport is already progressing, Fadnavis said that due to the proximity of Shirdi to Nashik, 'The airport will serve as a convenient entry point for pilgrims arriving by air during the Kumbh Mela.' He further said, 'The expansion will help manage the anticipated surge in air traffic during the religious event. The approved proposal includes eight new parking bays, two helipads, and upgradation of the passenger terminal.' Fadnavis also emphasised the importance of developing Latur Airport in light of the region's rapid overall growth. The improved facility is also expected to benefit nearby districts such as Beed and Dharashiv. He further instructed that work on Karad Airport be expedited and night-landing capabilities be introduced. The CM also suggested extending the runway at Chandrapur Airport to accommodate chartered flights and directed the exploration of two to three alternate sites for a proposed airport at Gadchiroli. The meeting also reviewed ongoing work at airports in Ratnagiri, Akola, Kolhapur, Nanded, and Dhule. Currently, flights are operational on 16 routes across the state under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN), and eight additional proposals have been submitted to the Centre.

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) In the backdrop of the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday approved the expansion of Shirdi Airport with construction of two helipads and eight parking lots and its modernisation. He also asked for a plan to be submitted for the expansion of the runway at Amravati Airport. This was decided during a meeting of the Chief Minister with the Maharashtra Airports Authority. The 91st meeting of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra Airport Authority was held in the auditorium of Sahyadri Guest House. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was present on this occasion. Swati Pandey, Vice President and Managing Director of the Authority, gave information through a presentation. Since the industrial network in Amaravati is expanding to a large extent, it is necessary to expand the runway of this place. A plan should be prepared to generate revenue from this airport, said Fadnavis. The Chief Minister mentioned on this occasion that, the work on the cargo terminal of the airport in Shirdi is going on at a fast pace. Since Shirdi airport is close to Nashik, Shirdi airport will be convenient for devotees coming by air during the Nashik Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. Considering the possible congestion at that time and considering the capacity of the airport in Nashik, the proposal for expansion of Shirdi airport was approved on this occasion. This includes eight parking lots, two helipads and updating of the terminal. This will benefit the aircraft and helicopter services coming during the Kumbh Mela. Latur district is undergoing major development and expansion in all areas. Therefore, Latur airport will be important. For this, this airport should be developed. This airport will also benefit Beed and Dharashiv districts along with Latur. Chief Minister Fadnavis also directed to start the work of an airport at Karad at the earliest and create a night landing facility there. The runway at the airport at Chandrapur should be extended to create a facility where chartered aircraft can land. He also instructed to consider two to three alternative sites for the airport at Gadchiroli. The work of the airports at Ratnagiri, Akola, Kolhapur, Nanded, Dhule was also reviewed on this occasion. It was informed that currently, air services are operating on 16 routes in the state under the Regional Connectivity Scheme and eight proposals from the state have been sent to the Centre under the flight scheme, added Fadnavis.
