Guarantee schemes improved people's purchasing power, helped Karnataka topper capita income, says CM Siddaramaiah
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the five guarantee schemes implemented by the Congress government in the State were responsible for Karnataka becoming number one in per capita income in the country.
He spoke after inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development works at Arasikere in Hassan district on Saturday.
The Chief Minister said that the State ranked number one in terms of the per capita income in the country, as the purchasing power of the people increased due to the guarantee schemes. 'The people of BJP do not understand economics, and they are engaged in spreading false propaganda that the government lacks money for development works. The people will not be misled by such statements,' he maintained.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the government was spending ₹1.2 lakh crore for development, besides ₹56,000 crore for guarantee schemes. The development works had reached people's doorsteps, he added.
Referring to Congress' 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' held in Delhi, the Chief Minister said that only his party designed programmes to ensure social justice for and progress of the oppressed. Rahul Gandhi, too, had articulated his understanding of the backward classes clearly in the conference, Mr. Siddaramaiah stated.
Citing the development works being taken up in Arasikere constituency, the Chief Minister said that Congress MLA K.M. Shivalinge Gowda had a bright political future. He had all the qualities required to be a Minister, and also had the blessings of the people in the constituency, Mr. Siddaramaiah said.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, while addressing the gathering, stated that Mr. Shivalinge Gowda had brought more development works for his constituency Arasikere, compared to the Kanakapura and Varuna constituencies, being represented by the Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister respectively.
'Today is a historic day for Arasikere. Mr. Shivalinge Gowda has worked hard to get development works sanctioned for the constituency. He fought for water from Yettinahole and Hemavathi for the benefit of the people of his constituency,' Mr. Shivakumar said.
Mr. Shivakumar stated that the Congress had implemented the guarantee schemes after understanding the needs of the people. 'We are into politics to improve the lives of the people, while the BJP plays with their emotions. The BJP has not implemented any project similar to the guarantee schemes launched by the Congress,' he said.
Minister for Cooperation K.N. Rajanna, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, MLA for Arasikere and Karnataka Housing Board Chairman K.M. Shivalinge Gowda, MP for Hassan Shreyas Patel, and officers were present at the programme.
