Industries and PWD ministers to meet Chakan MIDC stakeholders over poor roads, traffic woes
Pune: Industries minister Uday Samant and public works department (PWD) minister Shivendraraje Bhosale will on Wednesday meet public representatives and officials from various govt agencies to discuss the issues related to the deteriorating road condition and traffic congestion in the areas surrounding Chakan MIDC. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 12.30pm in Mumbai and will also cover long-pending proposals, including road widening and development of elevated roads in the region. The meeting comes in response to appeals from MIDC employees and local residents, who raised concerns over daily traffic chaos on connecting roads and highlighted the worsening state of Talegaon-Shikrapur Road. They demanded urgent intervention from state govt, especially after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis recently held a meeting to address similar issues in Hinjewadi IT Park. Dhiraj Mukte, a Chakan resident, said the agencies responsible for the road's upkeep failed to carry out timely repairs before the monsoon. "The road is now riddled with potholes that collect mud and water, leading to frequent accidents," he said. Bhosari BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who has been invited to the upcoming meeting, said, "Instead of just extending the support, I am actively pursuing these issues with govt. Just as steps are being taken to resolve the issues in the IT park, we will also work to address the challenges faced by industries in Chakan MIDC." One of the key roads in the region, the Nashik-Pune highway, which falls under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), connects MIDC to various parts of Pune. Thousands of employees commuting daily via this route face traffic jams. The meeting will also discuss the development of the proposed Nashik Phata-Rajgurunagar elevated corridor, which is expected to be implemented by NHAI and ease the traffic on the highway.

Inquiry report on 11-month delay in work order for new Kund Mala bridge in 2 weeks
Pune: State govt had ordered an inquiry into the delay in issuing a work order for a new bridge over the Indrayani river at Kund Mala in Pune district despite funds being approved 11 months ago, public works department minister Shivendraraje Bhosale told both houses of the legislature on Tuesday. Bhosale said that a three-member committee led by a secretary-rank officer would submit the inquiry report within two weeks, and based on that, govt would act against the officials found responsible for the delay. State in July last year approved Rs8 crore for the construction of the new bridge, parallel to the existing iron bridge, but the work order was issued on June 10, 2025. Five days later, the 30-year-old bridge collapsed, killing four people and injuring more than 50. Bhosale said several reasons, including the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the assembly elections and the demand from local representatives to make footpaths on both sides of the proposed bridge, also contributed to the delay. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "There was a delay, and we accept it; hence, action will be taken against those responsible." The issue was discussed in the assembly and council after the legislators, including those from ruling parties, demanded that an FIR first be registered under sections for culpable homicide. Later, govt may add names based on the inquiry report, the legislators said. The minister, however, said, "The inquiry report will come in two weeks, and the strictest possible action will be immediately initiated against those found responsible for the delay. But it would be wrong to take action before receiving the report." Though the old bridge was constructed by the PWD, it was under the maintenance of the Pune district administration when it collapsed, Bhosale said. Last month, state BJP president Ravindra Chavan, who was the PWD minister in 2024 when the Eknath Shinde-led govt approved funds for the bridge, said that there was a need for an inquiry to investigate reasons for the delay in work order. Chavan said that the tendering process was completed much before the assembly elections were announced and the project was supposed to be completed within a year.
