Major soap savagely rejects Matt Lucas after Little Britain star asks for role
Little Britain star, Matt Lucas, has revealed he once asked Coronation Street bosses if he could be on the soap as new character, Teddy Pink, but admitted they 'didn't bite' Matt Lucas has admitted he desperately wanted to be on Coronation Street, but was savagely snubbed by the soap's bosses. The Little Britain star is one of the most recognisable faces on TV and has a legion of loyal fans, who have followed his impressive career since making his debut on Shooting Stars as giant baby, George Dawes, in the nineties. Matt, 51, has appeared on a string of shows over the years, but Corrie has always eluded him after he revealed his plans to rock up on the cobbles as new character, Teddy Pink, were shot down by the powers that be. Chatting to his friend and fellow comic David Walliams, 53, on the latest episode of their Making a Scene podcast, Matt said: "I would like to be in Coronation Street because I feel like that's the sort of funniest of the soaps." He continued: "And I've always wanted to be - and I told the people of Corrie this years ago, they didn't bite - someone that goes into the hairdresser and sits down and has a haircut, even though I have no hair. "And I've always wanted to be called Teddy Pink. And I said, 'I'll be in Coronation Street as long as I'm called Teddy Pink.'" David, who starred with Matt in Little Britain and Come Fly With Me, has had more success in soap land. He appeared in an episode of EastEnders in 2003 as Ray Collins - the fake registrar who performed Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) and Alfie Moon's (Shane Richie) wedding in the Queen Vic pub on Christmas Day. Telling Matt he wanted to reprise his role, he said: "I played a character in 2003 in EastEnders, marrying Kat and Alfie in the Queen Vic in front of all the characters. So I was super excited. So I've been in EastEnders. And one day, I would like to come back as that character. "Sometimes comes up, EastEnders are celebrating an anniversary or something. They'll write down people who've gone on to different things from the show. So yeah, I loved it actually." Speaking about his excitement working with late stars June Brown (Dot Cotton) and Wendy Richard (Pauline Fowler), David could not contain his excitement. He gushed: "I was so starstruck, particularly by June Brown. I was so starstruck. And she was obviously different from the character, but she was dressed as Dot and smoking away in the dressing room." He continued: "And also Wendy Richard, I was incredibly starstruck by because we've grown up with her in Are You Being Served? It's Miss Brahms. She was very sexy. Had a massive crush on her then." While Matt may not have appeared in any British soaps, he did rock up in Aussie staple, Neighbours, along with David in 2007. The pair starred as their Little Britain characters, Lou Todd and his friend Andy Pipkin - who unbeknown to Lou pretends to need a wheelchair. The hilarious scene saw Matt and David roll up in the Scarlet Bar alongside characters Steph and Toadie, played by Carla Bonner and Toadfish legend, Ryan Moloney, and had viewers both here and Down Under in stitches.

Vic, 66, - whose real name is James Moir - went shirtless as he stood next to his stunning wife by the sea. He also shared a funny video of them cooling off in the water as they waved at the camera. The star then wrote under his post: 'Not waving, but drowning. Or The mermaid and the walrus. And a stone shark. English coastal waters. @nancy_sorrell.' Vic and Nancy, who have been married for over two decades, share daughters Elizabeth and Nell. The model, 50, posed up a storm in new snaps posted to Instagram this week amid the UK's heatwave Nancy is also stepmother to Vic's two children Alice, 32, and Louis, 27, from his previous marriage to Sarah Vincent. The model first met Vic in 2001 when they both appeared on the same BBC Two TV show. 'At the beginning it was tough. We didn't understand why people kept saying our relationship would end. But we just ignored it. Nancy went on to say she believed they had proved their naysayers wrong with the length of their romance, although she still can't understand why people had an issue with their relationship. Back in May Jim opened up about how he copes with deafness after suffering a brain tumour and why he's decided to leave alter ego Vic behind for a quiet life in Kent. The beloved comedian and artist - who is best known by his stage name Vic Reeves - reflected on having a benign brain tumour which has left him '100% deaf' in one ear in an interview. Back in 2021, Jim found out that the growth is inoperable and has curtailed his hobbies such as listening to music and bird watching. Jim - who found fame with Bob Mortimer in the 90s - has touched on his daily life living with deafness. Describing his morning routine after ditching the limelight to The Times, he explained how he likes to get 'four hours' painting in by 10am, so I'm in my studio at the bottom of our garden at 6.' He said: 'Music drowns out the tinnitus caused by a benign brain tumour that was found in 2021. I got used to being 100% deaf in one ear quite quickly. Jim then touched on how art has been his life, and that 'comedy was a bit of a distraction.' 'People presumed I was Vic Reeves because he was the most popular character I played, but I just stopped wanting to do it,' he candidly shared. 'I like being at home and wanted to do a different kind of art. Bird prints are my bread and butter, but I'm also doing bronzes and painting lots of beetles.' He also described his 97-year-old mum as his role model. Jim, who lives in Kent with his wife Nancy, 50, previously said: 'I get up every morning very early, go into the studio, paint, and go out for a walk in the afternoon. I like that a lot better.' Describing life after quitting fame, he shared that he likes to keep himself busy and 'doesn't know if it's an OCD thing' but he likes routine. The last public appearance he had with Nancy was in September last year as he attended the 2024 Sky Arts Awards in London. The pair celebrated 20 years of marriage in 2023. The comedian commemorated the occasion by sharing snaps of himself and his wife, who is 15 years his junior, wearing matching personalised T-shirts. Vic and Nancy sported T-shirts printed with pictures of them dressed up in wigs and glasses, with the words '20 years' underneath. He captioned the snaps: 'Happy anniversary to us. 20 years of love and happiness.'

'It is with the greatest sadness that we share the shattering news of Wiseman Sithole's sudden passing. We are honoured to have worked alongside this legend of an actor. He touched many lives as a friend, relative and to his audience on screen. We will miss you so much Wiseman!' read the statement. His agency went on to share his recent PR images taken for his upcoming Woordfees appearance.

South African actor Wiseman Sithole died on Sunday night at the age of 51. ERM Stars confirmed his death in a statement. 'It is with the greatest sadness that we share the shattering news of Wiseman Sithole's sudden passing. 'We are honoured to have worked alongside this legend of an actor. He touched many lives as a friend, relative, and to his audience on screen. We will miss you so much, Wiseman!' The Cape Town actor is well-known for his role in drama series 'Shooting Stars', SABC2's '90 Plein Street' and 'Die Sentrum, and in Showmax's 'Catch Me a Killer'. According to the statement, Sithole had an upcoming performance at the 2025 Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees taking place in October, which he had been photographed for.
