CM Yogi launches Kashi-Rameswaram holy water exchange

1 2 Varanasi: Building on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Kashi-Tamil Sangamam initiative, which aims to foster closer ties between the people of Kashi and Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a historic holy water exchange programme between the revered Kashi Vishwanath and Rameswaram shrines on the third Monday of the sacred Shrawan month This was done by exchanging urns filled with the sacred water and sands of the holy Sangam of Prayagraj and Rameswaram Kodi Tirtham with representatives of the Devakottai Zamindar Family Trust of Shri Rameswaram Jyotirlinga. The exchanged water will be used for Jalabhishek of the two Jyotirlingas. The Kashi Vishwanath and DZFT finalised the plan for the exchange to institutionalise this centuries-old scriptural practice on June 19. As Yogi came out of the sanctum sanctorum of the Kashi Vishwanath temple after offering prayers and 'Shodashopachar' rituals on Monday evening, the temple authorities hosted a ceremony at Lord Vishwanath's courtyard, where the CM handed over the urns containing the Sangam water to the representative of the DZFT of Shri Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga and Al Ar Kattalai Trust's trustee, CRM Arunachalam, and Kovilur Swami. The latter also gave the urns filled with the water of Rameshwaram Kodi Tirtham to CM Yogi. "An innovative sacred ritual of mutual exchange of sand-mixed holy water between two Jyotirlingas of the Sanatan tradition for the 'Abhishekam' of both deities has a very special significance as described in the scriptures," said Kashi Vishwanath temple chief executive officer Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, mentioning how the idea to institutionalise this tradition was generated and materialised. On June 19, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust received a letter from Arunachalam, one of the hereditary trustees of Shri Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram, said the CEO. "In the letter, it was informed that for the past several centuries, the holy water of Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj was used for the 'Abhishekam' of Lord Ramanath Swamy, the chief deity of Rameswaram, during 'Shayan aarti'. For the continuity of this tradition, it was proposed by Al Ar Kattalai Trust that the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust should become a participant in this tradition and provide them with the water of Triveni Sangam. It was also proposed by them that every month the holy water of Rameswaram Kodi Tirtham will be provided by Al Ar Kattalai Trust for the Abhishekam of Lord Vishwanath." In response, the CEO said, an approval of the executive committee of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust was obtained on July 3, and consent was given to the proposal to Al Ar Kattalai Trust. To fulfill this sacred endeavor, temple officials were dispatched to Sangam in Prayagraj on July 27 to ritually fetch holy water and sand, which was then brought to the Kashi Vishwanath temple. This sacred water was subsequently used for the 'Abhishekam' rituals of Lord Ramanatha Swamy. On the occasion of Shrawan Purnima on Aug 9, 'Jalabhishek of Lord Vishwanath will be performed with the water from Rameshwaram.

Temple to see safety revamp after tragedy

Lucknow: A day after two electrocution deaths at the Avsaneshwar Mahadev Temple in Haidergarh, Barabanki, which occurred during the early hours of Monday, authorities launched a major safety and accountability drive. The temple management and police, under intense scrutiny, began removing old and faulty wiring and fans installed along the jalabhishek route's tin shed, where the incident occurred. According to officials, the electricity department cut off the power supply to the temple premises on Monday night, citing hazardous, unverified internal wiring. The move came after eyewitnesses and media reported that a network of worn-out electrical wires parallel to the tin shed transferred current to the metal barricade poles, triggering the fatal shock. On Tuesday morning, the temple staff began dismantling the damaged wiring, generator connections, and electrical appliances. Manager Vinod Giri confirmed that the police ordered complete rewiring and inspection by certified experts, and no electricity will be restored until the premises are declared safe. Alongside, the Haidergarh power division also stepped up efforts by installing protective netting below high-tension (11,000 kV) lines that run above the main Barabanki–Haidergarh road leading to the temple. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Travel smart in Tenerife with budget tips Yahoo! A four-member team from the Directorate of Electrical Safety also inspected the site on Tuesday and collected evidence. Preliminary administrative reports suggested that a cable broke due to a monkey's interference. Two devotees were electrocuted, and 46 others sustained minor electric shocks after an electric wire snapped and fell onto a tin shed inside the premises of the Shri Ausaneshwar Mahadev temple in Haidergarh tehsil of Barabanki district on Monday morning. The incident that occurred during the Jalabhishek rituals during the holy month of Shrawan when the temple was crowded with devotees led to a stampede-like situation.
