Lord Jagannath and siblings begin nine-day sojourn to Gundicha temple
Puri, June 27 (UNI) The nine-day sojourn of the presiding deities of the Shree Jagannath Temple—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—began this morning amidst the chanting of "Haribol" and "Jai Jagannath" and the rhythmic clanging of cymbals that echoed through the temple town. Lakhs of devotees thronged the pilgrim city, converging along the three-kilometre-long 'Bada Danda' (Grand Road), stretching from the Lions Gate of the 12th-century temple to the Gundicha Temple, to witness the world-famous annual Rath Yatra. The divine siblings, along with Lord Sudarshan, were first offered Gopal Bhog (breakfast) following the completion of daily rituals. Thereafter, they were ceremoniously brought out from the sanctum sanctorum ('Ratna Vedi') in the grand procession known as Pahandi Bije and taken to their elaborately decorated chariots stationed outside the temple. Hundreds of temple servitors carried the deities on their shoulders through Ananda Bazaar and down the Baishi Pahacha to the Lions Gate, amid tight security and the blowing of conch shells. As per tradition, Lord Balabhadra is the first to be brought out and placed on the Taladhwaja chariot, followed by Devi Subhadra on the Darpadalana chariot. Lastly, Lord Jagannath—lovingly referred to as Kalia by devotees—will be installed on the Nandighosa chariot. A massive crowd gathered at the Lions Gate to catch a glimpse of the deities boarding their chariots, marking the beginning of their journey to the Gundicha Temple. Rooftops of buildings lining both sides of the Bada Danda were filled with devotees since early morning. All lanes and bylanes leading to the Grand Road were packed as people tried to enter the area for a sacred darshan of the deities on their chariots. According to temple sources, after the deities were placed on their respective chariots, the Gajapati King of Puri, Dibyasingha Deb, will perform the traditional Chera Panhara (sweeping of the chariots with a golden broom). The Shankaracharya of Puri will also have darshan of the Trinity on their respective chariots. The chariots will be pulled one after another by lakhs of devotees along the Bada Danda to the Gundicha Temple, where the deities will stay for nine days before returning to the main temple during the Bahuda Yatra (Return Car Festival). An elaborate security arrangement has been put in place, with over 10,000 personnel, including BSF, CRPF, RAF, NSG commandos, anti-drone squads, and snipers, deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. The Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and State Marine Police are patrolling the coastline, while 275 AI-powered CCTV cameras and drone jammers have been installed along Bada Danda and surrounding areas. These are connected to an integrated command and control centre. To handle the massive footfall and ensure public safety, 36 designated parking zones and an ambulance corridor have been arranged along Bada Danda. Over 500 lifeguards have been deployed to monitor the beach. Temporary accommodation with essential facilities and free food distribution centres has been set up at the railway station, as per directions from the Union Rail Minister. On the healthcare front, the government has arranged 268 indoor patient beds, along with facilities for sunstroke and burn injuries. A total of 378 doctors and paramedics have been deployed in Puri to handle medical emergencies. ADG (Traffic) Dayal Gangwar said that a special integrated traffic control plan, inspired by the Kumbh Mela model, has been implemented. Ten digital communication systems have been set up for team-wise traffic management, with 300 private security personnel assisting in processing data. Six enforcement teams have been tasked with removing vehicles parked in no-parking zones, and more than 80 traffic aid posts are operational to manage vehicular flow. UNI DP ARN

Back from brink: Mind coach recalls gritty Karun's fight to stay afloat after Test snub in 2018
Mullanpur , Karun Nair's fall into a world of despair back in 2018 is a well-documented tale of frustration but what pulled him out of that rut? The answer lies with Bengaluru-based mind coach Shree Advani, whom Karun consulted at his most vulnerable and the one who ensured that the talented batter did not allow his axing from the team, despite a rare triple ton in Tests, become a defining moment for his self-worth. Shree, brother of 28-time World Champion cueist Pankaj Advani, worked with Karun for a year and was left impressed with his dedication towards the game that had not returned his love back at the time. "We had to make him realise that the drop was not a reflection on his ability. And we had to keep the confidence in his ability high and make him understand that there is so much cricket left in him," Shree recalled in an interview to PTI, expressing his joy at Karun's comeback to the Test squad for the tour of England next month. Though he didn't do much wrong after becoming the second ever triple centurion from India in December 2016, Karun did not get too many chances the following year and when he warmed the bench for the entire tour of England in 2018, his frustration hit its peak. "Karun has gone through a lot in his career. After not getting opportunities on the entire tour of England, Karun was frustrated to say the least. It hit him hard and there were bound to be self doubts. You tend to question your self worth. Like 'what more do I need to do?'..." Shree remembered. However, the worst was yet to come as after COVID-enforced shutdowns, he was dropped from the Karnataka Ranji squad and his viral social media post, pleading for a chance to prove himself, followed. He was forced to move to Vidarbha where his career got a second wind that has now led to a Test comeback after eight years. Shree recalled the mind sessions with Karun between 2018 and 2019 and praised his ability to bounce back after hitting rock bottom. "But even at that time, his dedication towards the game stood out. My belief was that he is coming back stronger than ever," said Shree, who has worked with elite athletes from different sporting backgrounds. A forgotten notebook and red mustang ========================= Shree has lost count of the sessions he had with Karun but one interaction stays fresh in his mind. "So, he would take down notes during our sessions, which is something that I encourage. On that particular day, he left his notebook at home, he had driven down in his Mustang, which also got the number 303 . "When he realises he has forgotten the notebook, he drives back, picks it up, comes to see me. So, he was a very, very committed and dedicated student of the mind. And that is why I'm not surprised that he's, you know, right there at the top again, because of these kind of qualities," said Shree. The value of his 300 ============== Besides joining Virender Sehwag in the thin list of triple centurions in Tests, Karun also has a 300 to his name in Ranji Trophy. So, when he was suddenly out of selectors' radar, Shree felt it was important for him to stress on his glorious past. "...the 300 in Tests and Ranji, these things don't happen by chance. So, don't ever let a selector's decision define your calibre," the mind coach recalled telling him in one of the sessions. Now that the game has given him that chance, Shree reflected on Karun's state of mind at the time. "That tweet was him communicating with the universe more than the selectors. And, when you dial the universe, it picks up. It listens. It answers your call. And now that's exactly what has happened."

Street vendors knock on GHMC's door against harassment
Street vendors from across the city arrived at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's grievance redressal platform 'Prajavani' on Monday, with complaints against removal of pushcarts by the police, and non-implementation of the The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014. The 30 to 40 street vendors who arrived at the GHMC headquarters were representing hawkers from several areas, including Ameerpet, Dilsukhnagar, Kothapet, Saroornagar, Dilsukhnagar, Dammaiguda, Secunderabad and several others. They complained about Operation ROPE (Removal of Obstructive Parking & Encroachments) by the Traffic Police, which has majorly impacted the livelihood of the pushcart vendors. In the name of the operation, the police were removing and destroying the pushcarts, they said. Despite shifting to the lanes and bylanes, the vendors got no respite, and the police continued to impose fines and take away the weights, balances, and commodities as a threat, they said. 'Very recently, they deployed earthmovers to destroy the pushcarts near Saroornagar Rythu Bazar. The action was taken without any notice, and about 80 vendors were affected by it. They have had no work for the past few days. How will they live?' questioned Shree, Director of the Informal Labourers and Workers Federation, who led the delegation along with the National Hawkers Federation. The Street Vendors Act, 2014 exists only on paper, with a large number of vendors having the cards issued by GHMC, but not allotted any vending space, she complained. Two vendors each were selected from various locations of the city, to represent the issue, said. About four to five vendors were allowed inside the Prajavani programme to air their grievance, while all others were made to stay outside. Meanwhile, two children from Moosapet were brought to the Prajavani programme with a request for development of a colony park. Space allocated for park in Anjaneyanagar colony was encroached, and was cleared by the authorities, but ₹50 lakh sanctioned earlier for development of the park has not been released, they said. A total 62 complaints were received at the GHMC headquarters, while 104 complaints came through the programme conducted at the six zonal headquarters, a statement from GHMC informed. Majority were complaints pertaining to the Town Planning department.
