(KTAL/KMSS) – A 91-year-old woman is currently fighting for her life after what police describe as a violent home invasion. On July 2, 2025, Shreveport Police officers say they responded to a disturbing scene in the 2400 block of Sommersworth Drive. A 91-year-old woman was found severely beaten, tied up, and locked inside a closet in her own home. She was barely clinging to life when she was discovered. Detectives with the department's Violent Crimes Unit immediately launched an intensive investigation. In just hours, investigators identified 24-year-old Kendrell Thomas as the suspect. Troubles mount for suspect who allegedly robbed Shreveport drive-in With help from the Narcotics Unit and federal partners, Thomas was located at the Stone Vista Apartments and taken into custody without incident. Thomas faces the following charges: Attempted First-Degree Murder Aggravated Kidnapping Second-Degree Battery Home Invasion 'This was a heartless, violent attack on one of our most vulnerable residents,' said Chief Wayne Smith. 'Thanks to the outstanding work of our officers and detectives, the suspect is now in custody and will face justice.' The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition. (KTAL/KMSS) – A devastating crash in Shreveport has changed the life of one resident, according to the Shreveport Police. On May 24, 2025, just after 11:00 p.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to a major traffic collision at the intersection of Interstate 49 and Hollywood Avenue. Former owner of local oilfield consulting service sentenced for money laundering According to witnesses, a green vehicle ran a red light and struck a black Toyota 4Runner. Officers arrived on the scene and identified the driver of the green vehicle as Richard Roberson, who they say had a strong odor of alcohol. Attempts to administer standard field sobriety tests were made, but Roberson was uncooperative and refused to follow officers' directions. He was arrested at the scene. The occupant of the Toyota 4Runner sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to a press release from the Shreveport Police Department (SPD), the victim remains alive but faces a long road to recovery. Roberson has been charged with the following offenses: Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) Felony Vehicular Negligent Injury No Proof of Insurance Reckless Operation of a Vehicle Possession of Alcoholic Beverages in a Motor Vehicle Failure to Register a Vehicle In a released statement, SPD says, 'This incident serves as another tragic reminder that drinking and driving can have devastating and potentially deadly consequences.' (KTAL/KMSS) – On Sunday, just after 7:30 p.m., Shreveport Police officers responded to reports of an armed person in the 400 block of Browning Street. The SPD discovered a 16-year-old female suffering from a bloody nose. The victim told police that her 20-year-old boyfriend, Cordarius Moore, allegedly physically assaulted her and remained inside the residence while armed with a knife. High-speed chases end in arrests, crash, power outage 'Officers swiftly secured the scene and detained all individuals present,' a press release stated. 'Preliminary investigation revealed that an argument had occurred between the victim and Moore, with whom she had been in a romantic relationship. During the investigation, officers observed bruising around the victim's neck, indicating signs of strangulation.' Moore faces one count of Domestic Abuse Battery by Strangulation. The release added that 'based on the victim's age and the nature of their relationship,' Moore also faces one count of Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile.
