Fifth batch of 7,208 Amarnath pilgrims departs from Jammu

JAMMU: Amid chants of "Bam Bam Bhole," the fifth and largest batch of 7,208 pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 departed from Jammu's Bhagwati Nagar base camp early Sunday. The journey, however, was marred by a minor mishap when a bus from Madhya Pradesh, part of the yatra convoy, suffered a brake failure and collided with four other vehicles near Chanderkote in Ramban, leaving 36 pilgrims with non-serious injuries. The pilgrims left in a convoy of 310 vehicles under tight security, heading toward the holy cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas via the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Officials said 3,199 pilgrims (2,236 men, 851 women, 18 children, 60 sadhus, and 34 sadhvis) took the Baltal route, while 4,009 (3,022 men, 736 women, 12 children, 217 sadhus, and 22 sadhvis) opted for Pahalgam. This fifth batch follows the earlier departures of 3,500 (July 2), 5,246 (July 3), 6,411 (July 4), and 6,979 (July 5) pilgrims from the Jammu base camp.

A total of 3,403 pilgrims comprising 2,647 men, 467 women, eight children,16 transgenders, 200 sadhus and 65 sadhvis left in 144 vehicles for the Pahalgam route and 2,489 pilgrims comprising 1,748 men, 576 women, 23 children, 135 sadhus and seven sadhvis left in 166 vehicles for Baltal routes,' said an official at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp. Before flagging off the first batch, LG Sinha performed a puja at the base camp and prayed for the peaceful and hassle-free conduct of the annual pilgrimage. 'Wishing all spiritual seekers a safe & comfortable journey to the holy abode of Lord Shiva and a deeply soul-stirring experience,' Sinha, who wore a traditional Dogra turban, posted on X. Sinha further said the administration, people of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, J&K Police and security forces have made elaborate arrangements for the pilgrims. 'Jammu city has come alive with a new vibrancy. The enthusiasm of pilgrims is very high. Undeterred by terror incidents, devotees of Bhole Baba are arriving in huge numbers, demonstrating their immense faith. I hope that this year's Yatra will be even more historic than previous years,' the LG said. Choudhary made the remark as he, along with NC MLA Sajad Shaheen and District Development Council chairperson Ramban Shamshad Shan, received the first batch of Amarnath pilgrims in Banihal. As Northern Railway plans to operate special trains for the pilgrims, authorities have set up various facilities, including registration on arrival and medical check up, at the Jammu railway station. Senior divisional commercial manager, Jammu division of Northern Railway, Uchit Singhal said additional security forces have also been deployed at the station while more CCTV cameras have also been installed for the safety of the travellers. 'There is no fear among us. Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 has failed to dampen our spirit,' said Manoj Kumar, 37, a pilgrim from UP's Sitapur. 'PM Modi has given a strong reply to Pakistan through Operation Sindoor. Our security forces have been deployed for us. The enemies will not be able to cause any harm to us,' he added. We faced no problems and the administration is extending all possible help to us.' Post Pahalgam attack, the BJP government at the Centre has deployed 581 companies of the paramilitary forces to ward off any terror threat to the pilgrimage, considered one of the most revered in Hinduism. Amarnath Yatra has always remained a 'high value' target for the Pakistani terror outfits. More than 3.31 lakh devotees have registered so far for this year's pilgrimage.

CRPF deploys special women's team for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims on Baltal Route

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has deployed a special 'May I Help You' women personnel team to assist Amarnath Yatra pilgrims who take the Baltal route to reach the cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Wednesday. Pilgrims in a jubilant mood as they arrive at Baltal Base Camp to embark on their journey of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025, in Ganderbal.(ANI) The paramilitary force has pooled in the highest number of troops for the annual pilgrimage that was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Jammu on Wednesday. Of 581 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) companies deployed for the yatra, 219 are from the CRPF, while the rest are from forces like the BSF, ITBP, CISF, and SSB. The pilgrimage to the 3,880-metre high shrine will commence on July 3 from the Kashmir valley via two tracks — the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in the Ganderbal district. The CRPF has deployed a team of its women personnel wearing 'May I Help You' embossed orange vests along the Baltal route to help female pilgrims along the route from the base camp and the entry point at 'Domail'. These teams will be stationed at vital locations, officials said. "The force is committed to conducting a safe Amarnath Yatra for the pilgrims in coordination with all stakeholders. All our teams are tasked to render timely assistance to the pilgrims and also provide a strong security cover," CRPF deputy inspector general and joint nodal officer for the Yatra, Sudhir Kumar, said. Kumar, who supervised the yatra last year too, said all security arrangements are in place for the event, taking place against the backdrop of the April 22 gunning down of 26 men in Pahalgam in a terrorist attack. The CRPF has also deployed a team comprising 30 personnel as part of its mountain rescue teams (MRTs) along the two journey tracks. They will help in rescuing pilgrims in case of medical complications, which usually occur due to high altitude, and respond to any natural or man-made disaster, a senior officer said. The yatra will conclude on August 9. More than 3.31 lakh devotees have registered so far for this year's pilgrimage.

Jammu, June 27 (UNI) Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar on Friday said that Shri Amarnath Yatra will not be allowed through railways while 60 RFID centres are established at five prominent districts in the Jammu region. "Yatra will not be allowed through the railway. It will be allowed only via road under proper regulation by the administration and security forces,' the Divisional Commissioner here told reporters in a press conference. He was flanked by Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti and other senior officers from police and administration. Kumar informed that online registration with e-KYC from the website of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and from different Bank Branches across the nation has already been started by SASB, while the offline registration shall begin on 1 July, 2025 in Jammu. He said elaborate arrangements have been put in place in Bhagwati Nagar Yatra camp, where the Yatris will arrive a day before leaving in convoys for Baltal and Pahalgam Yatra base camps. 'A total of 141 lodgment centres have been established in Jammu Division with adequate civic amenities and security arrangements, while 52 langers and 60 RFID centres will function in Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Ramban Districts and five Registration centres with a token centre at Saraswati Dham are being made functional in Jammu,' he added. IGP Jammu also appealed to the people to adhere to the Dos and Don'ts and public advisories being issued by the Administration. The general public can avail live information pertaining to the holy Yatra from the dedicated Control Rooms which shall be made functional in coming days, he said. The duo briefed about the foolproof and elaborate arrangements made by the administration for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025. Earlier, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Inspector General of Police, held a meeting with prominent members of the civil society of Jammu to discuss the arrangements and seek their cooperation for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY) starting on July 2 from Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The meeting was attended by senior officials from Civil and Police administration and representatives of religious organizations transporters, Taxi Union, Traders, Bazaar associations, hoteliers, Sabhas was briefed about the elaborate arrangements and preparations made by the administration for the annual pilgrimage. The civil society members gave their valuable insights and suggestions for a spiritually rich experience to the Yatris. At the outset, the Divisional Commissioner highlighted the religious, spiritual, cultural and economic significance of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 and emphasized on the crucial role of all the stakeholders in ensuring a smooth and hassle free yatra experience to the pilgrims. The Divisional Commissioner informed the meeting that elaborate arrangements have been made at Bhagwati Nagar yatra camp for the comfortable stay of pilgrims. 'With adequate water, power supply, the Niwas has AC halls, Hangers for shade, community Langer, sanitation and modern washroom facilities. Similar arrangements have also been made at lodgment centres across the districts en-route the yatra right from Lakhanpur in Kathua to Lambar, Banihal in Ramban,' Kumar said. The Civil Society members assured full cooperation to the administration from their end to make the yatra successful and memorable for the local and non local pilgrims. Stress was laid on giving wide publicity to Tawi Arti being organized during the yatra period, besides nearby sites and Tourist places for the information of the pilgrims arriving from different parts of the nation and the world. The Divisional Commissioner said that the pilgrims will be given full information by the Tourism department at their help desks established at RFID centres in Jammu and Lakhanpur. The civil society members gave numerous suggestions to make the yatra pleasant and hassle free including enhanced arrangements in view of monsoon, regulation of fares of three wheelers and cabs, encroachment free public spaces, erecting banners with information about the tourist spots and uninterrupted power and water supply in areas with hotels where Yatris will stay. IGP Tuti, while interacting with the Civil Society members, informed them about the elaborate security arrangements made with additional deployment of paramilitary forces creating a multi-tier security grid. Emphasis was laid on adherence to the cutoff timings by the yatris and traveling only with the official yatra convoys. The IGP Jammu assured that local tourists will not be affected during the Yatra. The Divisional Commissioner expressed gratitude to the civil society members for their cooperation and assistance to administration.
