HYDERABAD: In a significant gesture of academic diplomacy, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi visited the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and the Area Study Centre for East and South-East Asia to explore avenues for enhanced educational and cultural collaboration between the two countries. Ambassador Shuichi was warmly received by SU Registrar Dr Mushtaq Ali Jariko, Director of the Area Study Centre Dr Mukesh Kumar Khatwani and senior faculty members. During his interaction at the Centre, the ambassador expressed keen interest in strengthening academic and cultural exchanges between Japanese institutions and the University of Sindh Jamshoro. ISLAMABAD: The former Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, Farukh Amil's photo exhibition "Beautiful Japan – Through the Eyes of an Ambassador," featuring a collection of Japan's culture, people, landscapes, and technological advancements, was opened at the Pakistan National Council of Arts on Friday. Secretary, National Heritage and Culture Division Secretary Hassan Nasir Jamy, and Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, H.E. Akamatsu Shuichi inaugurated the show. Amil, who played an important role in strengthening diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Japan, captured these images during his tenure in Japan, reflecting the beauty and intricacies of Japanese life. The exhibition, featuring around 40 selected photographs, aims not only to showcase the beauty of Japanese society and culture but also to reinforce the ties between Japan and Pakistan fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan's rich heritage and contemporary society among Pakistani audiences. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ambassador Shuichi expressed his admiration for Amil's work, noting that his deep understanding of Japanese society is evident in the photographs, as each photograph is a testament to Amil's keen eye and deep affection for Japan. As Japan's Ambassador to Pakistan, he is delighted to see Japan through the lens of someone who knows our country so well, he added. "I believe this exhibition powerfully connects our two nations. It allows us to share Japan's beauty and complexity with the people of Pakistan, fostering deeper understanding and appreciation. It reminds us that despite the distance, we share the values, respect for traditions, love of beauty, and appreciation for the human experience", remarked Ambassador Shuichi. Faruk's talent was even recognised in Japan where he won the prestigious Grand Prix in the Ambassador's Photo Exhibition competition. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 19th February. The gallery is closed on Saturday (today).
