Stevie Wonder, 75, speaks out about possible retirement plans
Well, isn't this lovely. Stevie Wonder clarified that he has no plans to retire for as long as he's alive during Monday's episode of the BBC's 'Sidetracked' podcast. 'For as long as you breathe, for as long as your heart beats, there's more for you to do,' Wonder, 75, told host Annie Mac. 'I'm not gonna stop the gift that keeps pouring through my body.' Stevie Wonder Says He'll Never Give Up Performing: ‘You Don't Have to Retire'
Stevie Wonder has confirmed that he's not going anywhere, with the veteran musician claiming he'll be performing and creating until his dying day. Wonder's comments came from a new interview with the BBC's Sidetracked podcast, where he entered into a discussion with host Annie Mac about the topic of retirement. 'For as long as you breathe, for as long as your heart beats, there's more for you to do,' he explained. 'I love playing music, that's like my mantra. I think I can do all the stuff I want to do – still have fun and do what I need to do – but I'm not going to stop the gift that keeps pouring through my body.' Close to the entirety of Wonder's life has been dedicated to creating music, with the 75-year-old having released his first single at the age of 11, and later scored his first Hot 100 chart-topper with 'Fingertips' at 13. Currently, it's been almost 20 years since Wonder released his last studio album, A Time to Love, though a number of singles have arrived in the years since – including 2024's 'Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart.' Since 2008, the musician has spoken about a new project titled Through the Eyes of Wonder, which has been described as a performance piece that will reflect his experience as a blind man. During his appearance on Sidetracked, Mac asked Wonder about his relationship with music, to which the veteran artist responded he's 'going to put music out' at some point, and is 'excited' about the long-discussed Through the Eyes of Wonder project. During his recent time in the U.K., Wonder also performed in Cardiff, Wales where he took the opportunity to share a poignant response to viral rumors that he is in fact able to see. 'You know there have been rumors about me seeing and all that?' he asked the crowd. 'But seriously, you know the truth. 'Truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind,' Wonder explained. 'Now, that was a blessing because it's allowed me to see the world in the vision of truth, of sight. See people in the spirit of them, not how they look. Rod Stewart shares one 'horrible' thing about Glastonbury slot after making 'demand'
Rod Stewart is set to play the Sunday 'legends' slot at Glastonbury this summer, and the singer has shared one thing he's not a fan of when it comes to performing at the festival 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' hitmaker Rod Stewart has divulged one "horrible" detail pertaining to his anticipated performance at Glastonbury and disclosed that he asserted a specific request. Appearing on a special Glastonbury-edition of BBC 's Sidetracked podcast with hosts Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw, the 'Maggie May' superstar divulged his feelings about his upcoming show on the festival's famed Pyramid Stage. The rock legend, who took the stage at the event in 2002 alongside the likes of Coldplay and Stereophonics, is set to fill the Sunday 'legends' slot at Worthy Farm's legendary festival, a role previously embraced by luminaries such as Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, and Kylie Minogue. During their chat, Rod weighed in on being labelled a "legend", expressing comfort with the title, going so far as to suggest that he indeed "deserves it". Yet, he expressly objects to one aspect of the prestigious performance slot. Rod remarked: "I don't mind. I obviously think I deserve it. I just wish they wouldn't call it the teatime slot", drawing Annie's agreement; she acknowledged that the term sounded "old" while Rod himself branded it "horrible". The singer also humorously mentioned "scones" during the discussion. He shared: "We're working on the set list, but not too hard. I wanna try and treat it like any other game, you know, although it's not; it's Glastonbury. "But I've only got an hour had an hour and 15, and I demanded an hour and a half because I many songs. You know, obviously, this'll be the last time I do it." Rod has shared his laid-back approach to his highly anticipated Glastonbury performance, saying: "So, I want it to be memorable, but I'm just gonna go in, have a few drinks before I go on and enjoy myself like I've always done all my life." In related news, Rod's wife, Penny Lancaster, has spoken candidly about her concerns for her husband, revealing that he has been contemplating his own mortality following the loss of his brothers, Don and Bob. However, she also confessed that the 80-year-old rockstar, famous for hits like 'I Don't Want to Talk About It' and 'Have I Told You Lately That I Love You', continues to keep her feeling youthful and energised. When asked on the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast if Rod keeps her feeling young, Penny replied: "He does, he does." She continued: "My thought with Rod, the way I kind of describe him, you know when you get to 80, I guess there's a lot of reflection, there's more to look back on than there is to look forward, and he's wondering to himself, he's lost his two brothers, maybe 'How long have I got?'". Aside from his forthcoming Glastonbury appearance, Rod has also recently expressed his ambition to set a new 100m record for individuals over 80. In an interview with Men's Health, he revealed that he has already achieved a time of 19 seconds and is now aiming to shave it down to 17 seconds, with the ultimate goal of beating Kenton Brown's record of 14.21 seconds set in October 2024.

Thousands of people will descend on Glastonbury In England as the famous music festival in Somerset opens its gates for 2025. Campers arriving at Worthy Farm can expect a mixed bag of sunshine and rain throughout the week with 'with sunny spells and scattered showers expected throughout the day' on Wednesday, according to forecasters. This year's event will see headline performances from British rock/pop band The 1975, veteran singer Neil Young and his band the Chrome Hearts, and US pop star Olivia Rodrigo, fresh from her Marlay Park gig. Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh was charged for allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at a gig in London in November last year. Last week the 27-year-old, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was cheered by hundreds of supporters as he arrived with bandmates Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh at Westminster Magistrates' Court in 'Free Mo Chara' T-shirts. He was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing at the same court on August 20. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said the group's performance at the festival, taking place on the West Holts Stage at 4pm on Saturday, is not 'appropriate' and Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch said she thought the BBC 'should not be showing' Kneecap's performance. Organiser Emily Eavis has said the festival, which has capacity for 210,000 people, has sold 'a few thousand less tickets' this year in a bid to avoid overcrowding. In an appearance on the Sidetracked podcast, Eavis outlined the changes that have been made to this year's festival and said music area Shangri-La is 'going full trees and green space' which is 'completely the opposite to anything they've done in the past'. Among the acts expected to draw large crowds this year is alternative pop star Charli XCX, who will perform songs from her genre-defining sixth studio album Brat. She is performing on Saturday night on the Other Stage, 15 minutes before the West Holts stage is graced by US rapper Doechii, another artist who has exploded in popularity in the last year.
