Netflix fans only just discovering 'most underrated' film that has left them 'traumatised'
An 'underrated' thriller on Netflix has found a new lease of life 30 years since its initial release Movie fans are just now discovering a seriously intense thriller on Netflix that has left them 'traumatised'. Originally released back in 1995, psychological thriller Copycat, stars Sigourney Weaver as Dr Helen Hudson, a criminal psychologist who is struggling with agoraphobia. The renowned expert became a recluse after a traumatic attack that saw her nearly get murdered by killer Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr). Years later, Helen is recruited by San Francisco police officer Detective M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) to try and hunt down a serial killer replicating the methods of infamous murderers. Although she fears the outside world, Helen uses her knowledge and expertise to try and catch the person behind the copycat killings while working with M.J. The cast of the film - which developed a cult following in the decades since its release -also includes stars like Dermot Mulroney, William McNamara and Will Patton. As well as Copycat doing pretty well at the box office - grossing $79 million from a $27 million budget - the critical response was positive too. On Rotten Tomatoes, it was given a 76% rating. Copycat was released on UK's Netflix last month - and it's fair to say the film has found a new lease of life 30 years since its initial release. On Facebook, Netflix uploaded the opening scene of Copycat in which Helen is attacked by Daryll in a public toilet. Reacting to a 'traumatising' clip, one person said: 'Man! This scene made me afraid to use public bathrooms. I mean, even to this day I'm still on high alert at rest stops.' Someone else added: 'I remember seeing this in theaters. I was freaked out in public restrooms for months!' A third chimed in: 'This scene TRAUMATISED me when I saw it as a teenager, for years and years. I'd always be looking up when using the public bathroom to make sure it didn't happen to me.' Meanwhile, others praised the film as a whole, with someone declaring: 'I really liked this, one of the most underrated movies out there.' Another agreed: 'Great movie, it holds up and I agree no one really talks about it.' It wasn't just the audience that Harry Connick Jr creeped out thanks to his portrayal of killer Daryll Lee Cullum. In 2024, he revealed that Sigourney Weaver was so freaked out by his performance that 'she wouldn't talk to him' on set. 'Every time I came around, she went the other way,. She was like, 'I don't want to be around that guy!'' he told SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham.

Netflix viewers distraught after shock removal announcement of 'one of the best shows ever released'
Netflix is set to remove one of its most popular foreign shows this month and fans aren't happy about it. The French comedy-drama Call My Agent! will officially depart the streaming service on July 22. The beloved series depicts a group of talent agents at a Paris-based agency - focusing on their relationships with their actor clients, who are played by real-life celebrities. Some of the celebrity stars have included Juliette Binoche, Sigourney Weaver, and Isabelle Huppert. Call My Agent! was an instant hit when it premiered on French television in late 2015, but it didn't become a global sensation until the Covid pandemic. Viewers soon named it one of the best Netflix shows of all time, with the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman counting themselves as loyal fans of the series. 'It's a love letter to the business, to the relationships between actors, artists,' Weaver told Variety. 'It goes behind the scenes to show the problems of actors in dealing with different directors and mood scenes, cosmetic surgery and all these situations that come up in a very humorous way that no other show does,' she continued. 'And it has a lot of affection for the business and for the job of being an agent. The agents in the series are very passionate about their clients. It's very inspiring.' A British version was released in 2022 titled Ten Percent, but was canceled after one season. Other international versions came from Turkey, South Korea, India, Italy, Indonesia, and more. The fourth and final season of Call My Agent! was released in 2020, but a fifth season and a feature-length film were both announced back in 2021. Fans have been distraught since news of Call My Agent! exiting Netflix was announced, with many taking to social media to express their disappointment. 'Ummm… why is Call My Agent leaving Netflix?! 'We're still waiting for the fifth season and 90-minute film that we were promised in 2021,' wrote one. 'Oh no! I enjoyed re-watching this every year on Netflix,' wrote a second. The popular series depicts a group of talent agents at a Paris-based agency and their relationships with their actor clients, who are played by real-life celebrities It comes after Netflix dumped a huge amount of popular shows and movies throughout the month of June. Batman Begins (2005) was cut, as well as its sequels The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Children's favorites including Alvinnn!!! And The Chipmunks and Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom also left the streamer. Meanwhile, horror fans had to say goodbye to Cult of Chucky and Ma.

Prime Video is losing an intense psychological thriller movie that'll twist your mind — but it's now streaming on Netflix instead
If you're anything like me, you've probably spent way too much time scrolling through streaming services looking for the perfect thriller. And thanks to the constant shuffle of titles between platforms, it's all-too-easy to miss out on some real gems. One of them includes 'Copycat,' a '90s psychological thriller that deserves way more love than it gets. Starring Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter, 'Copycat' is quietly one of the best thrillers of its era, and features one of Weaver's most gripping (and overlooked) performances. It's currently streaming on Prime Video, but not for much longer, as the movie is set to leave the platform on July 1. Thankfully, it's not vanishing entirely. You can also stream it on Netflix, where it recently climbed into the top 10, proof that viewers are rediscovering this underrated classic. Even if you've seen it before, 'Copycat' is absolutely worth revisiting. The suspense holds up beautifully, the performances are solid, and nearly 30 years on, it still knows how to get under your skin. So, here's everything to know about 'Copycat' and why you should add it to your Prime Video (or Netflix) watchlist. 'Copycat' follows Dr. Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver), a renowned criminal psychologist and expert on serial killers. After surviving a traumatic attack by one of her former subjects, Helen develops severe agoraphobia and becomes a recluse, confined to her high-tech San Francisco apartment. Her isolation is interrupted when a series of murders begin to surface, each one eerily replicating the methods of infamous serial killers from the past. The police, struggling to track the killer, enlist Helen's help. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Detective M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter) and her partner Reuben Goetz (Dermot Mulroney) form a reluctant alliance with the reclusive psychologist, relying on her expertise to build a profile of the murderer. As Helen becomes more involved in the investigation, she discovers that the killer is not only mimicking historical murderers but also closely studying her work and life. The case grows increasingly personal, with the killer taunting Helen directly, drawing her out of her isolation and into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. There's a reason 'Copycat' keeps popping back into the streaming spotlight nearly 30 years after its release. It's just a really solid and confidently crafted thriller. No frills, no gimmicks, just clean, absorbing storytelling that locks in from the opening scene and steadily tightens its grip. Sigourney Weaver plays a criminal psychologist who's retreated from the world after a violent attack. We first meet her giving a lecture about serial killers, totally in control of the room, and then everything unravels. She's not Ripley here. She's not saving the world. She's anxious, terrified, and brilliant. And while 'Alien' will always be my favorite franchise ever (and her role as Ellen Ripley remains iconic), 'Copycat' deserves some love too. It's one of Weaver's most underrated performances, and somehow it's rarely mentioned when we talk about her best work. This thriller is essentially a slow-burn murder mystery that hits all the right notes. A new killer is on the loose, copying the signatures of infamous murderers from the past, and Helen is reluctantly pulled into the case. She's paired with Holly Hunter's rational detective (who's also excellent), and the dynamic between the two is half the fun. The screenplay, by first-time writer David Madsen and Ann Biderman, offers a clever twist, one that feels somewhat in step with the vibe of 'Seven.' The concept of a killer replicating real-life infamous murders is deeply unsettling, arguably even more so than using the seven deadly sins as a framework. And it's refreshing to see a crime thriller anchored by a female duo for a change, breaking away from the typical buddy-cop formula. 'Copycat' has plenty going for it, but it's not without its imperfections, of course. The premise of a murderer imitating well-known killers can feel a bit familiar, and at times, the plot's direction becomes fairly easy to predict. Beyond Weaver and Hunter's standout performances, the rest of the cast doesn't get a lot of development. This leaves much of the surrounding world feeling somewhat underwritten and less engaging than it could be. However, I'm confident that viewers will find 'Copycat' compelling, and despite its flaws, it's definitely worth a watch. This isn't an action-packed thriller, and it won't blow your mind. Instead, 'Copycat' aims to be thoughtful and tightly wound, which work perfectly when anchored by two brilliant performances. If you missed it the first time around (or just haven't revisited it in years), it's more than earned its spot back on your watchlist. As a reminder, 'Copycat' leaves Prime Video on July 1, so you still have time. Otherwise, you can stream it on Netflix right now.
