Five places for Wrexham AFC fans to visit out in Sydney

Joe Faux, a summer addition made by the Silkmen - managed by former Reds' player Lee Fowler - is a Sydneysider and he has provided supporters Down Under with his list of five places to visit while in the city. Wrexham opened their pre-season tour with a match against Melbourne Victory on Saturday and they will next come up against Sydney FC on Tuesday. Reds' fans in Sydney looking for something to do during the build-up to the game have plenty of things they can do! Faux said: "I would definitely go to Circular Quay and walk around the opera house and harbour bridge. "You can do a ferry from there as well under the bridge or around to Manly, which is another nice area in the north shore." Continuing his tour, Faux said: "I would do the coastal walk from Coogee to Bondi and stop at each beach along there for a swim or to eat or drink, or whatever you feel like." Stop three on Faux's tour of his home city is somewhere for people to get a sense of Sydney. "Go to the Queen Victoria Building (QVB) in the middle of the city to shop or walk around and get a sense of the city." Fans are well covered when it comes to bar and restaurants too. "Darling Harbour and Barangaroo is also a nice spot. Lot of good bars and restaurants there for a night out and it's a nice walk. They have a zoo and aquarium there as well," added Faux. Concluding the tips, he added: "Last one is the botanic gardens, right next to the opera house. "Get great views from the harbour and again, it's a nice park to walk, few little animals and greenery in there as well." Faux, whose parents are going to the game to support the home club on Tuesday, also played locally for Cefn Druids and Connah's Quay Nomads. The 28-year-old tricky wide player started out with Bolton Wanderers U23s and he first entered the Welsh system in the summer of 2019.

Manager who Robbie Savage sacked at Macclesfield doesn't hold back about Forest Green move

Manager who Robbie Savage sacked at Macclesfield doesn't hold back about Forest Green move After Robbie Savage departed Macclesfield to join Forest Green Rovers, a manager the former Premier League star previously sacked has offered his clear thoughts on the move Robbie Savage was recently unveiled as the new manager of Forest Green Rovers, and posed for a picture with owner Dale Vince (Image: FGRFC_Official/X ) A former Macclesfield manager that was sacked by Robbie Savage believes the club will be in a "better position" now the ex-Wales captain has left. Savage, 50, was recently unveiled as the new manager of League Two side Forest Green Rovers. His move comes one year after he appointed himself as head coach of the Silkmen and four years after he became a board member of the re-launched side. ‌ Before he inserted himself into the dugout, Savage was a director of football at Macclesfield. He parted with predecessor Michael Clegg, before appointing himself as head coach. ‌ In his one and only season in charge, Macclesfield dominated the Northern Premier League, winning the title by 26 points and comfortably getting promoted into the National League North – the sixth tier of English football. Despite committing last month to remain with the Silkmen by extending his contract by two years, Savage ultimately resigned as head coach and director of football, but remained a part-owner of the club. After news of his exit was confirmed, Clegg tweeted his reaction. He wrote: " A massive day for Macc (Macclesfield). They are now in a better position than ever… this club will fly now.' Article continues below While replying to another fan on social media, Clegg reaffirmed his comment, writing: " My life since Macc has been amazing. From office staff to players to maintenance men. There will be a party tonight. Trust me." Clegg is now the manager of Atherton Collieries (Image: MacclesfieldFC/X ) Clegg was appointed as manager of Macclesfield in February 2024 and came within 90 minutes of promotion in the NPL Premier play-off final, but the Silkmen lost 2-1 to Marine. While various reports claimed Clegg was sacked by the club, he told the Bolton News the decision was a mutual one. ‌ Clegg, who is now the manager of Atherton Collieries, said: "Working at a club of that size it's a lot of phone calls from agents, there was always something, but I just always had a feeling that I wouldn't start the season, whether that was for me or from their side. I was right. "Everything dragged on longer than it should have done. I wasn't an angel, and I could have handled it better. I didn't need to leave the club. "A lot of people thought I got sacked but the club was keen for me to stay but the terms of my work there were different to the terms of my contract, and that is what I wasn't happy with. ‌ Savage guided Macclesfield to promotion to the National League North (Image: Andy Stenning/Daily Mirror ) "Absolutely nothing to do with money, anything but, more that the conditions they wanted me to work under were a no-go. I got on really well with the board, well, there was only one person I didn't get on with, but once they knew how torn that relationship was it proved impossible to carry on." Not long after Savage's exit, Macclesfield announced the appointment of John Rooney – the younger brother of Manchester United legend Wayne – as manager. Rooney had spent the last two years as a player of the club, but will now become the new head coach. Robbie Savage closing in on Macclesfield exit and could be replaced by Wayne Rooney's little-known brother

FORMER Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage is on the verge of becoming the new manager of Forest Green Rovers. Savage took over as head coach of Macclesfield last June, four years after becoming a board member of the re-launched club. Under his guidance, the Silkmen won the Northern Premier League Premier Division and secured promotion to the National League North. He subsequently penned a new two-year contract just last month. However, the 50-year-old is already set to move on. According to Sky Sports, Savage has agreed to become the new Forest Green manager. The Welshman was at the club on Monday to finalise a deal, with the official announcement expected on Tuesday. He replaces Steve Cotterill, who was dismissed on Thursday after failing to earn promotion from the National League. In preparation for his move, Savage has allegedly resigned from his role as Macclesfield's director of football. However, he remains a part-owner of the club. After he extended his managerial contract at Macclesfield last month, Savage explained: "It's a club that's close to my heart. "What myself and Rob and the volunteers, the staff have all achieved: three promotions in four years, an FA trophy semi-final, record-breaking season last year. What is up with you-' - Robbie Savage's harsh halftime dressing room team-talk that inspired Macclesfield to title win "You know interest from other clubs, as Rob has alluded to, I just wanted to show everybody my commitment to this football club. "It's my future. For the next couple of years, it's going to be here. It's a project. It's a journey. I can't leave that dressing room. "The lads have been spectacular, been amazing. Togetherness has been incredible. So I'm on that journey with them." John Rooney, the younger brother of Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney, is allegedly expected to take over as Macclesfield boss. Rooney has spent the last two years as a player for the club.

Robbie Savage closing in on Forest Green Rovers job after turning down offers

Ex-Wales international Robbie Savage, guided Macclesfield to promotion from the Northern Premier League title and is now set to make his way up the football pyramid Robbie Savage is closing in on being appointed as Forest Green Rovers manager after the eco-warriors parted company with Steve Cotterill. Savage won promotion to the National League North in his first season as a head coach, at the age of 50, with born-again Macclesfield last season, smashing every club record for points, goals, clean sheets and wins. ‌ The former Wales international, who captained four Premier League clubs, is believed to have turned down two offers from clubs at least two divisions higher than the Silkmen last year. ‌ And although he agreed a new two-year contract with Macclesfield after clinching the phoenix club's third promotion in four years, Forest Green owner Dale Vince is determined to land his No.1 target. Savage and businessman Rob Smethurst relaunched the Silkmen five years ago after the club had gone bust and took them on an astonishing magic carpet ride of three promotions and a play-off final in four years. During the first three of those campaigns Savage was director of football, hiring and firing managers but taking charge of all the player recruitment. He admitted last September that he would effectively have to sack himself if he was not an instant success as head coach - but Macclesfield stormed to the Northern Premier League title collecting 109 points and scoring 109 goals. Forest Green director of football Mark Bowen is a former Wales team-mate who was also Mark Hughes' assistant when Savage joined Birmingham and Blackburn. Cotterill's departure from the New Lawn paves the way for a fresh start in the Gloucestershire hillside and Savage's appointment could be rubber-stamped early next week. Vince, who was impressed by the promise of Savage's son, Charlie, on loan at Forest Green two seasons ago has a high regard for the BBC 606 phone-in host's work ethic. Savage has always been determined not to launch his managerial career at Premier League or Championship level as a matter of entitlement and is thought to prefer climbing the ladder incrementally to earn his stripes. ‌ Forest Green missed out narrowly on the National League play-off final last month, beaten on penalties in a semi-final thriller against Southend. But that was not enough for Vince, who felt they were capable of regaining EFL status at the first attempt after a disastrous year when former Watford striker Troy Deeney's reign lasted only 29 days as head coach. ‌ Deeney oversaw vastly improved performances, if not results, but he was forced out after hammering his players in the media following a home defeat by Harrogate. Vince, however, has not been put off hiring another big personality - and the relentless winning machine Savage built at Macclesfield was always going to lead to offers from clubs higher up English football's ladder.

Cymru Premier League clubs have strengthened their ranks

Lee Fowler led the Silkmen to a ninth-placed finish in the top flight last time out and he has added the services of Cameron Ferguson and former Aberystwyth Town captain Jack Thorn (pictured above) to his squad. Ferguson, the son of ex-Everton legend Duncan, started his career at the Everton Academy before signing for Tranmere Rovers as part of their scholarship programme. Thorn's father, Andy, was also an ex-professional player having made more than 100 appearances for both Wimbledon and Crystal Palace. Flintshire rivals, Connah's Quay Nomads, have added another new signing to their ranks. Twenty-year-old midfielder Ben Kershaw has arrived from Hyde United in the Northern Premier League. Boss John Disney told the club website: 'I am delighted to announce Ben has signed for us, a player I have kept tabs on whilst he has been playing at Stoke for two years but also someone that has developed in men's football the last 12 months with Hyde. 'Ben brings a freshness and very good technical ability to our midfield and one that will flourish in the Welsh premier league to kick us back into the top half of the league.'
