(WHNT) — We here at News 19 are continuing to celebrate Women's History Month by highlighting the achievements of some remarkable women in the Tennessee Valley. This week, we are shining the spotlight on a woman who is leading the way when it comes to making sure our soldiers in the battlefield are safe. Remarkable Women: Taura Denmon 'We feel very good about being able to provide a service,' said Annie Saylor. A life of service that began in the mountains of eastern Kentucky in a classroom similar to this one. Annie came to Huntsville to teach math at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. However, after a couple of years, her love of numbers led her to take a different career path in the defense industry. 'It's important to be able to provide quality munitions and missiles for our soldiers to be able to use in battle,' said Annie. 'And we're part of that process of testing to make sure things work the way they're supposed to.' Annie is one of the co-founders of SimTech. She's responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of this business which focuses on high tech defense contracts. Remarkable Women: Tiffany Draper Annie's impact can also be felt outside the walls of SimTech and in the community. 'I also have a passion about mental health because I had a sister that had a mental illness,' said Annie. 'So, I'm on the Wilson board. I'm also passionate about senior citizens' care. My spouse passed away several years ago. And so, I'm involved with Studio 60, a senior center.' Her work with mental health led to her establishing the first office for the Alliance of the Mentally Ill in the state of Alabama. Annie is also a strong supporter of STEM and the Chamber of Commerce of Madison County. By the way, she tells me she has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. 'I don't intend to retire,' said Annie. 'I like working, but at the same time, I recognize that one day I won't be here. And I want the company to continue with the kind of culture that we have.' A culture that has given her the chance to make her mark in North Alabama. Be sure to tune in on Tuesday, April 1, when we have the big reveal and introduce you to the 2025 Remarkable Woman for North Alabama. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
