Xavi Simons makes decision over transfer after Arsenal and Chelsea interest
Xavi Simons favours a move to the Premier League with both Arsenal and Chelsea monitoring the RB Leipzig midfielder, according to reports. RB Leipzig completed an initial €50 million (£41.8m) deal to sign Simons in January after the 22-year-old spent 18 months on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. However, after missing out on European football altogether last season, RB Leipzig are now open to selling at least one key player with Simons and striker Benjamin Sesko, who is on Arsenal's summer shortlist, the two candidates to leave. Simons is not short of interest with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Arsenal all considering a move for the Netherlands international. On Thursday, Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, met with Simons' brother Faustino and the midfielder's advisor, Ali Barat, at a hotel in the city. Barcelona, however, would struggle to finance a deal for Simons this summer as RB Leipzig are looking for an immediate return on the €50m (£41.8m) they spent to sign the player earlier this year. Bayern, meanwhile, are said to be admirers of Simons but are prioritising deals for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz and Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, who impressed for Germany at the European Under-21 Championship this summer. More Trending Bayern's opening bid for Diaz, worth £58.6m, was rejected by Liverpool this week. Arsenal and Chelsea are both understood to be keeping tabs on Simons' situation at RB Leipzig but neither Premier League side has followed up with an approach. According to Bild, Simons favours a move to the Premier League and has sought the help of Barat to help open a discussion with Chelsea. Barat received the Golden Agent Award in Turin in 2023 after he brokered Chelsea's £115m deal to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Will the Boston Celtics trade Anfernee Simons this offseason?
Will the Boston Celtics trade Anfernee Simons this offseason? And if they do move on from the former Portland Trail Blazers guard even before he has a chance to suit up for the Celtics, what sort of move will it be? We have been hearing reports from multiple sources that the Celtics are actively shopping Simons. And given the team remains about $300,000 over the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)'s dreaded second apron, we expect the team to try to dip under that bright red line in terms of team building to get out of the severe penalties that will bring on Boston regarding making trades, draft picks, and their tax bill. So any sort of move from the Celtics make with regard to Simons will likely be in part a financial one, but also might help in addressing the roster imbalance given Boston's lack of starting caliber big men. The folks behind the "1080 the Fan" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Danny and Dusty" show taking a closer look. Check it out below!

Report: Celtics Looking to Make Another Major Trade
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics' front office has been busy this offseason. To start things off, the Celtics traded away veteran star point guard Jrue Holiday. After that, they shipped out star big man Kristaps Porzingis. Unfortunately, Boston was forced to make those moves due to luxury tax implications. Jayson Tatum's injury has also forced the Celtics to reassess their future. Thankfully, the team has been able to hold onto Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. Those two players will stick around as the main core of the roster around Tatum when he returns from the torn Achilles that he suffered during the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Read more: Caitlin Clark Names Best NBA Player of All-Time Without Hesitation According to a report from ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the Celtics are actively trying to trade guard Anfernee Simons. He was acquired in the trade that sent Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers. Even though Boston is trying to trade Simons, Windhorst isn't so sure that will happen. "I have talked to other teams who have said they [Boston] are actively trying to trade Anfernee Simons," he said. "Whether they can or not is another [thing]." Simons is a very productive players. However, he has one year left on his contract and is set to be paid over $27.6 million. During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Trail Blazers, Simons played in 70 games. He averaged 19.3 points per game to go along with 4.8 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.9 steals. In addition, he shot 42.6 percent from the floor and 36.3 percent from three-point distance. At 26 years old, Simons is just now entering his true prime. He could be an intriguing pickup for any contender looking to add more scoring. Only time will tell, but the Celtics would still like to cut more payroll. Trading Simons would be the best way to do that, but it might not be the easiest task for Stevens and the front office. Expect to hear more rumors about Simons in the coming days. It will be interesting to see if Boston is able to move off of him.
