Xavi Simons favours a move to the Premier League with both Arsenal and Chelsea monitoring the RB Leipzig midfielder, according to reports. RB Leipzig completed an initial €50 million (£41.8m) deal to sign Simons in January after the 22-year-old spent 18 months on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. However, after missing out on European football altogether last season, RB Leipzig are now open to selling at least one key player with Simons and striker Benjamin Sesko, who is on Arsenal's summer shortlist, the two candidates to leave. Simons is not short of interest with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Arsenal all considering a move for the Netherlands international. On Thursday, Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, met with Simons' brother Faustino and the midfielder's advisor, Ali Barat, at a hotel in the city. Will the Boston Celtics trade Anfernee Simons this offseason? And if they do move on from the former Portland Trail Blazers guard even before he has a chance to suit up for the Celtics, what sort of move will it be? We have been hearing reports from multiple sources that the Celtics are actively shopping Simons. And given the team remains about $300,000 over the collective bargaining agreement (CBA)'s dreaded second apron, we expect the team to try to dip under that bright red line in terms of team building to get out of the severe penalties that will bring on Boston regarding making trades, draft picks, and their tax bill. He was acquired in the trade that sent Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers. Even though Boston is trying to trade Simons, Windhorst isn't so sure that will happen. "I have talked to other teams who have said they [Boston] are actively trying to trade Anfernee Simons," he said. "Whether they can or not is another [thing]." Simons is a very productive players. However, he has one year left on his contract and is set to be paid over $27.6 million. During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Trail Blazers, Simons played in 70 games. He averaged 19.3 points per game to go along with 4.8 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.9 steals. In addition, he shot 42.6 percent from the floor and 36.3 percent from three-point distance. At 26 years old, Simons is just now entering his true prime. He could be an intriguing pickup for any contender looking to add more scoring. Only time will tell, but the Celtics would still like to cut more payroll. Trading Simons would be the best way to do that, but it might not be the easiest task for Stevens and the front office.
