What's on in Montreal for June 26, 2025 Summer festival season is here, and here's a list of what's on this week: Jazz Fest The Montreal International Jazz Festival is in high gear until July 5. In its 45th year, there are more than 350 concerts to choose from, many of which are free. It's the perfect opportunity to discover new and notable artists. Grammy award-winning rapper Nas will be in town for the festival, performing on June 28 and 29 at Place des Arts. Actor Jeff Goldblum brings his musical stylings to town alongside the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. June 30 is your chance to see them live at Place des Arts. The beloved Canadian pop-punk band Simple Plan is celebrating its 25-year journey with a brand-new documentary titled Simple Plan: The Kids in the Crowd , premiering July 8 on Prime Video. An honest look at a 25-year journey Directed by Didier Charrette, the documentary captures Simple Plan's rise from basement jam sessions in Montreal to sold-out stadiums around the world. The film walks you through their early days as teenagers chasing a dream, the breakthrough success of their debut album No Pads, No Balls, and the rollercoaster that followed, chart-topping singles, personal struggles, creative roadblocks, and eventual resurgence. It's less about stardom and more about what it takes to hold on to friendship, passion, and purpose in an industry that chews people up and spits them out. The film also features a who's who of early-2000s punk rock royalty. You'll see candid appearances and interviews from Mark Hoppus of Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Dexter Holland and Noodles from The Offspring, Fat Mike of NOFX, and members of Sum 41, Papa Roach, Good Charlotte, and Sugar Ray. Music, memories, and a message Alongside the film, Amazon Music is dropping a full soundtrack, including a rare early demo of 'I'm Just a Kid' and a brand-new single from the band, all releasing the same day as the documentary. For longtime fans, this is a rare treat to hear where it all started and see how far they've come. The band released a statement ahead of the film's release, saying, 'Creating this documentary has been deeply meaningful. It's a story of friendship, brotherhood, and music's transformative power.' They added that they hope the film encourages younger generations to start something of their own, even if it's in a garage or basement like they did.

EMO/PUNK rockers come to the front of the moshpit because Simple Plan is back – well, not quite, but the outfit has unveiled the first look at its upcoming documentary Simple Plan: The Kids in the Crowd. The documentary, which is set to premiere on July 8, is an intimate look into the band's 25-journey, from basement shows in Montreal to global stardom, as the 90s emo/punk rock sensation Fans are in for a treat as the documentary will feature never-seen-before archival footage, along with new interviews with band members and punk rock icons, including Blink-182 Mark Hoppus, punk princess Avril Lavigne, The Offspring Dexter Holland and Noodles, and NOFX Fat Mike. 'We are thrilled to share this first look at our documentary. The film captures our journey, struggles and most memorable moments together. Creating it has been deeply meaningful, and sharing our story is the perfect way to celebrate our 25th anniversary,' shared the band. 'The Kids in the Crowd is about dreaming big and perseverance – it is story of friendship, brotherhood, and music's transformative power.' The band expressed hopes that the documentary will encourage people to believe in themselves and inspire a new generation of passionate dreamers who follow the calling of their hearts... 'maybe even start a band in their own garage or basement' just like Simple Plan did. The documentary also chronicles the creation of hits such as Welcome to My Life, I'd Do Anything and Perfect, which have shaped a generation of emo/punk rockers. Canadian band Simple Plan teams up with Amazon for Prime member-exclusive content
Those of us who were around in the early 2000s will be sure to remember the pop punk music of the era, with artists like Blink-182 and Good Charlotte dominating the airwaves. Canada's own Simple Plan was also a mainstay at the time, and the Montreal-based band, currently on its 'Bigger Than You Think!' tour, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with new music and an original documentary.
