Man taken to hospital after cement truck overturns in Chinatown

SINGAPORE - A cement truck driver was taken to the hospital while conscious after his vehicle overturned in Chinatown on July 19. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and police said they were alerted to the accident in Eu Tong Sen Street around 5pm that day. The accident happened in the direction of Hill Street, said the police, adding that the truck was believed to have skidded. The 52-year-old driver was taken to the Singapore General Hospital. In a video recording of the accident uploaded to social media, two workers can be seen shovelling concrete that was spilled off the pavement and back into the mixer. The two left-most lanes of the four-lane road were also cordoned off by the authorities. The driver is also assisting police with their investigations. Earlier in May, 81 errant heavy vehicle drivers were issued summonses for a range of traffic offences, including speeding, using a mobile communication device while driving, failing to keep left, failing to secure the load on a vehicle using ropes or other proper materials and failing to visibly display a speed limiter label. Singapore: 27-Year-Old Man Faces Charges for Alleged Involvement in Money Mule Scheme

A 27-year-old man was arrested by the Singapore Police for his suspected involvement in money mule activities. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that they received a report from a victim on June 24 that she was allegedly deceived into handing over S$90,000 in cash to unknown persons over two separate occasions in an online cryptocurrency investment scam. On Thursday, July 10, the SPF said, "The money was purportedly meant for topping up her online investment account, which was later discovered to be fake." The officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted an operation through follow-up investigations and arrested the man while he was allegedly attempting to collect additional funds from the victim. "Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly collected S$5,000 from another victim in a similar scam. The man had reportedly used two S$2 notes with specific serial numbers, which matched photographs sent via online messaging platforms to the victims, as a means of identification. Cash amounting to S$5,000 and the two S$2 notes were seized as case exhibits," added the authority. The man will be charged in court on Thursday with possession of property suspected to be benefits from criminal conduct and attempted possession of property. The offences carry a fine not exceeding S$150,000, an imprisonment term not exceeding three years, or both. Anyone suspected of engaging in money mule activities is taken seriously by the Singapore police. The SPF warned the public that they should turn down seemingly alluring money-making opportunities that promise quick and simple payouts for collecting money, using their bank accounts or Singpass accounts, or allowing their personal bank accounts to be used to receive and send money on behalf of others in order to avoid becoming complicit in these crimes.

According to the police, he was arrested on Tuesday, July 8, for allegedly participating in a case of rash acts that caused harm. On July 5, the police received a call for assistance along Orchard Road at approximately 6:50 pm. They said that initial investigations revealed that the man had allegedly thrown a glass bottle from a pedestrian walkway onto a bus window. The impact caused the window to shatter, injuring a 57-year-old female bus passenger. The police added that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday after his identity was established through follow-up investigations. "An 18-year-old teenager who was with the man is also assisting with the investigation," the police said, as reported by CNA. On Wednesday, July 9, the man will face charges of hurtful rash behavior. A rash act that causes harm can result in a fine of up to S$5,000 (US$3,902), a year in jail, or both. For the unversed, Vincent Gay, deputy managing director of SMRT Buses, had said that the female passenger was on board bus service 190, which was traveling along Orchard Road at approximately 6:45 pm on July 5. Following the incident, the bus captain brought the vehicle to a safe stop and checked on the passengers, he said, adding that those affected were safely transferred to another bus to continue their journeys. Several photos of the incident that went viral online showed the bus parked close to The Heeren. Pictures posted on the social media site Xiaohongshu revealed a huge hole in one of the bus's upper deck windows, while the remaining window panel is cracked. The police and the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) then said that the injured woman was taken conscious to Raffles Hospital.

Man arrested after crashing into road divider, mounting kerb along Race Course Road

SINGAPORE: A 39-year-old man was arrested after he crashed into a central divider and mounted a kerb along a road beside Farrer Park Hospital, police said on Thursday (Jul 3),. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it was alerted to an accident on Jun 29 at about 11.05pm involving a car 'that was believed to have self-skidded along Race Course Road towards Tessensohn Road'. Videos of the incident circulating online showed the white SUV stuck on the central divider along Race Course Road, with a section of the divider's metal barrier on the ground. The car's front right wheel could be seen spinning in the air, before the vehicle reversed out of its position, only to crash through the divider's barriers again. The car continued to reverse across the opposite side of the road and mounted the kerb. It came to a stop only after crossing a pedestrian footpath, barely missing a tree, and hitting another road barrier and some bicycles.
