Coronation Street's Kym Marsh teams up with soap icon for new Channel 5 drama

The soap great, Susan Kennedy on the long-running Australian show, will join former Coronation Street star Kym in Imposter, which will be produced by Fremantle Australia for Channel 5. The pair will be on screen together and a preview for the new programme teased what's ahead. It read: "A splashy seaside hotel becomes the centre of a bitter family dispute as matriarch Helen refuses to sell, despite pressure from her three adult children. But Helen is hiding a secret: a daughter she gave up for adoption decades ago. When Amanda suddenly appears, Helen welcomes her with open arms— but is Amanda who she says she is? "The lucrative hotel is the ultimate prize and a twisted scheme soon spirals into betrayal and ultimately, murder. The series is set to begin production in Victoria, Australia, this Summer. It is a second big career boost for Kym, who was earlier this month announced in the cast of brand-new stage play, Single White Female – based on the iconic 90s psychological thriller. The world premiere stage production, written by author, journalist and broadcaster, Rebecca Reid, will embark on a major UK and Ireland theatre tour from January 2026. Kym said: "I am so excited to be bringing this brilliant, brand new and thrilling play to theatres across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. I remember being totally gripped by the movie when I first saw it in the cinema and could never have imagined back then that I'd be starring in the world premiere of its life on stage. Get ready to be thrilled, shocked and entertained and watch out for those stiletto heels." Neighbours was axed for a second time earlier this year, with the news coming just two years after it had been initially cancelled on Channel 5 'Everyone's got an idea of how they would like the show to end, but that [the previous] finale was written and everyone gave it 100% because we all thought: 'This is it,'' Jackie told TV Tonight after the news. 'This was our opportunity to honour the show and take it out with a bang. 'But I don't think you can do that twice. It wouldn't have the same impact. I have no doubt that [producers] will come up with a heartfelt, authentic, beautiful farewell. Everybody's, once again, just focused on making sure that we give it our all… But it does feel different this time. 'The vibe last time, there was such an energy of, 'Of course, they'll keep us. Someone's got to rescue us!'... This time, I think because we've been through it before, you only have one 'first time', don't you? So there wasn't the same level of anxiety, fear and heartbreak.'

Meanwhile, The Thomas Crown Affair remains on track for its March 2027 release, assuming its crown jewel can be quickly replaced.

Hear'Say star Kym Marsh to bring new play to Ireland for Gaiety Theatre run
Actress Kym Marsh is set to tour Ireland and the UK in a new stage production next year. Single White Female will run at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre from 31 March to 4 April, with Dublin tickets to go on sale on Friday 11 July. The play, written by author, journalist, and broadcaster Rebecca Reid, is described as a "bold and modern reimagining" of the 1992 psychological thriller. Former Coronation Street star Marsh said: "I am so excited to be bringing this brilliant, brand-new, and thrilling play to theatres across England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. "I remember being totally gripped by the movie when I first saw it in the cinema and could never have imagined back then that I'd be starring in the world premiere of its life on stage. "Get ready to be thrilled, shocked, and entertained, and watch out for those stiletto heels." Marsh, who first shot to fame in the group Hear'Say, went on to play a major role as Coronation Street's Michelle Connor from 2006 to 2019 before starring in Waterloo Road. The new play updates the plot of the film, which was itself based on a novel called SWF Seeks Same by John Lutz. "Full of dark humour and sharp and suspenseful storytelling, this new play updates the original story to the age of social media and all that it brings, in a gripping tale of ambition, obsession, and the desperate need for belonging in an isolated world," producers said. The play will open at Brighton's Theatre Royal on 9 January 2026 and will then tour until 13 June. Full casting is yet to be announced.

Jennifer Jason Leigh looked nearly unrecognizable as she stepped out for a rare outing in LA on Friday during the Fourth of July holiday. The actress, 63 - who is known for her roles in films such as the 90s cult classic Single White Female - was seen enjoying a relaxing summer stroll in a quiet neighborhood with a male companion. She kept it casual wearing a pair of burgundy-colored sweatpants as well as a long-sleeved gray top. Leigh slipped into a comfy sneakers and added a cream-colored sunhat on top of her blonde locks. The Oscar-nominated star cradled a water bottle in the crook of her arm while also holding fresh fruit in her hand. While talking to Interview Magazine back in 2015, Jennifer Jason Leigh - who played antagonist Hedra in the 1992 film - opened up about playing that kind of character. 'I certainly enjoy playing those types of people. They're easier to play in a way, because they're farther away from who you are, but you can tap into things you would never act out on in your own life, or never expose to everyone,' she stated. 'They're the things nightmares and dreams are made of, but they're not anywhere you would actually want to go or dwell in. The Weeds actress added, 'It's fun to do that in a really safe, creative way, and probably really healthy, I think.' Earlier this year in March, it was revealed that the movie is set to get a reboot - with Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell in talks to take on the leading roles. Leigh also went on to star in additional films such as Georgia (1995), Washington Square (1997), Road To Perdition (2002) and The Machinist (2004). She also jumped to the television screen when she played a recurring role in the series Weeds. Jennifer received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Quentin Tarantino's western thriller The Hateful Eight (2015).
