SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A new exhibit at the Sioux City Art Center opened on June 12. A Certain Cadence of Night by artist Duane Slick is the most recent 1-person exhibition in Iowa. The art center officials say the paintings showcase his broad creative output in paintings, on paper, along with a video installation produced in collaboration with Martin Slick. Slick's work is inspired by modernist abstraction and includes Native American stylizations. He spoke to KCAU about the importance of showing his artwork in Sioux City. I've been aware of this space for a few years. What's a big draw for me is that it's in Sioux City, which is so close to the Ho-Chunk Nation. So it's a chance for my relatives to come and see the show.' Slick's exhibit will be on display at the art center from now through October 12. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Sioux City Art Center holds ‘Free Family Art' Day

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Saturday's nice weather brought families downtown to the Sioux City Art Center for its second annual Free Family Art Day. Activities took place outside on the center's lawn and inside the art center and the learning center buildings. Families could participate in arts and crafts projects, scavenger hunts, face painting. There was also a photo booth and magic. Plus, pork sandwiches were served and everything was free. 'The art activities are work for kids to work along with their parents. We have some activities where parents and teens can work together. We want people to bond together through art. But, we also, long term, want people to make sure that they remember, we're here for them. The art center is open six days a week. Free, always something going on. The learning center always has art activities going on for kids and adults. It's also an open house for the community to come back and remember what makes us so special,' said Todd Behrens, Director of the Sioux City Art Center. The event went from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and the Sioux City Art Center was hoping to top last year's attendance of 1,200 people. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
