Mary Trump slams ‘extraordinarily dangerous' attacks on Mamdani

Mary Trump, the president's niece, slammed right-wing attacks on Zohran Mamdani, the winner of New York City's Democratic mayoral primary, calling them 'extraordinarily dangerous' on SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah's Friday show. 'It is not going to stop here. It's going to get worse,' Mary Trump said in response to a question about comments by President Trump and others attacking Mamdani, who would be the city's first Muslim mayor if elected. The president derided Mamdani, a democratic socialist, as a '100% Communist Lunatic' on Wednesday. 'This is not the first time that President Trump is going to comment on myself, and I encourage him — just like I encourage every New Yorker — to learn about my actual policies to make the city affordable,' Mamdani responded. Other influencers and lawmakers in the MAGA ecosystem have gone even further, often playing on Islamophobic tropes. Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) called on Mamdani, who became a U.S. citizen in 2018, to be denaturalized and deported. The president's son Donald Trump Jr. and conservative influencers Charlie Kirk and Laura Loomer have connected his election victory to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Mary Trump, who lives in New York City, condemned attacks against Mamdani as 'anti-Muslim bigotry.' Mamdani has spoken openly about receiving violent threats throughout his campaign. The New York City Police Department investigated an alleged car bomb threat against him in early June, and his campaign hired security during the primary in response to an uptick in threats against him.

With new movie, Destry Allyn Spielberg puts a scare in the family business

After so many of her father's movie nights at home, Destry Allyn Spielberg finally got the chance to host her own. The 28-year-old director says it was 'so special' but also 'crazy' to screen her debut feature, the horror movie 'Please Don't Feed the Children,' for her family, including her parents: iconic filmmaker Steven Spielberg and actress Kate Capshaw. Mom and dad were 'super proud,' she reports, and older brother Sawyer even cried. 'I watched my movie with them, which I was telling myself I wouldn't do, but we have such a good sound system. So it was like going to the theater and I was just, like, looking at everyone, like, 'Oh, my gosh, this is so weird!'' Join our Watch Party! Sign up to receive USA TODAY's movie and TV recommendations right in your inbox Fifty years after Steven Spielberg made people afraid of the water with 'Jaws,' Destry is adding more scares to the family business. 'Please Don't Feed the Children' (now streaming for free on Tubi) imagines a post-apocalyptic scenario in which a pandemic has infected adults but not kids, forcing the youngsters into a fight for survival. A group of teens on the run is taken in by a seemingly kind British woman (Michelle Dockery), but between her poison cookies and the dark secret in her basement she's more sinister than sweet. Destry Spielberg thanks members of her clan in the credits, including someone film lovers might not know: Chicken Spielberg, an adorable Irish Setter/Poodle mix. 'She's my child,' the director says. 'She was the set emotional therapy dog.' Here's what you need to know about the latest Spielberg making waves in Hollywood: Destry Allyn Spielberg loves horror (especially 'The Shining') Spielberg won acclaim for her 2022 psychological thriller short film 'Let Me Go (The Right Way)' – written by Owen King, Stephen King's son – but didn't know if she wanted to direct a horror movie right out of the gate. 'It didn't feel like it was going to be my wheelhouse, to be honest,' says Spielberg, who was inspired by 'Children of Men' and 'Coraline' when crafting 'Children.' She adores horror, though, going back to her lifelong obsession for 'The Shining.' When Destry Spielberg was 8, her father was driving her to a tutoring session and listening to the car radio when she heard a snippet of the 'Shining' score and the scene with the two creepy twin girls on Sirius XM's Cinemagic channel. 'It fascinated me so much,' she says. Destry wanted to watch Stanley Kubrick's classic film, but Steven said no because she was too young. That was his same answer two summers later, when he played it on a movie night. 'The TV room in our house is right below my bedroom, and the walls are paper thin,' she says. 'You're basically in there with them, so I listened to the entire movie.' It wasn't until a film studies class in her sophomore year of high school when Destry finally saw 'The Shining." 'It was everything I could have imagined. I watched it, like, five times that week at home,' she says. 'It was the first film that really got me intrigued with just the history of cinema and specific directors. It taught me a lot.' Directing wasn't always the plan for Steven Spielberg's daughter Growing up, Destry had friends over to make movies, 'but I didn't look at that activity as a future career, even though I was living in a house where that was a career. It just felt like a fun activity to do,' she says. As she got older and started realizing how important her name was in the film world, Spielberg shied away from it. "That's natural, especially when you're in your teens and you're wanting to make friends and you start to learn that people will get excited about (her dad). And it's really confusing because you're like, 'Why are you so excited about this person? I don't get it.'' Destry had been an equestrian from a young age and that was her career path until an injury at 19 derailed that dream. 'I didn't have a Plan B,' she says. 'I definitely was dealing with some depression and mental health issues.' She started studying comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade, which proved therapeutic, and then took acting classes. She had roles in 2021's 'Licorice Pizza' and HBO's 2020 miniseries 'I Know This Much Is True,' but work was scarce. There was only so much rejection she could take, so she and a friend wrote a short film they could star in to show a reel to filmmakers. They couldn't afford a director, so Spielberg did it herself and was hooked. 'I had all this knowledge that I didn't really know I had or hadn't tapped into yet that I'm so grateful for. A lot of it's just because I grew up around it,' she says. 'It was a very spiritual experience.' Destry Spielberg was named after a classic Western The youngest Spielberg child has never met another Destry, and her mom originally was going to name her Ruth-Louise. At one of her dad's summer movie nights, he was trying to show the family the 1939 Marlene Dietrich/James Stewart Western 'Destry Rides Again' but 'no one wanted to watch it,' she says. 'Right before they were going to bed, he goes, 'What if we named her Destry?' And then my mom loved it. Thank God.' This Destry is riding again as well: Spielberg returned to equestrian competition in February and starts filming her next feature, a murder mystery, this summer. And she's still wrapping her head around her family's filmmaking legacy. 'It took me some years to really understand how lucky we are to have been able to be in that environment that so many people would kill to be in,' Spielberg says. 'It's strange having to separate: that's my dad, and then this is a whole other world that is so appreciated on so many levels that's studied and cared for. You just don't really understand that appreciation until you're kind of in it yourself.'

In Closing Argument, Prosecutors in Diddy Trial Meticulously Lay Out Case for Guilty Verdict

After spending six weeks calling witnesses and presenting evidence against rap and fashion mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs at a lower Manhattan court, the team of six women federal prosecutors told the jury in the prosecution's closing arguments that the onetime pop culture titan was, without a doubt, 'the leader of a criminal enterprise.' Combs faces five counts including one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He pleaded not guilty after his September arrest and has said that he has not committed any of the crimes of which he's been accused. More from The Hollywood Reporter How Diddy's Right-Hand Woman Became the Phantom of His Trial The Weeknd Kicks Off Sold-Out Four-Night Stand in Los Angeles SiriusXM Goes All In on K-Pop Programming On Thursday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik presented the government's closing salvo on Thursday morning, focusing first on the racketeering conspiracy charge Combs faces and then moving into the sex trafficking charges, specifically regarding two of his ex-girlfriends, Cassandra 'Cassie' Ventura and the pseudonymously named 'Jane.' On the racketeering charge, Slavik informed the jury that they must be unanimous in their voting that Combs knowingly and willfully agreed that he, or a co-conspirator, would commit two acts of racketeering. Slavik said there is evidence of multiple acts committed by Combs and his 'enterprise': drug distribution, kidnapping, an arson attack, bribery, facilitating sex trafficking, facilitating travel for commercial sex (for Ventura, 'Jane' and several male sex workers), forced labor and covering up crimes. Slavik then laid out how they see each of these examples unfolding in what was discussed in testimony. On the drugs accusation, Slavik told jurors it must be proven that a co-conspirator knowingly distributed drugs. Once drugs (meth, cocaine, ecstasy and other substances) were delivered by his staff, the court learned, 'he gave them to Cassie and Jane,' Slavik said. 'This is drug distribution, plain and simple.' the kidnapping allegations related to testimony from Capricorn Clark that Combs came to her late at night and forced her into a car at gunpoint. They then drove to rapper Kid Cudi's Hollywood Hills home, where Combs and a staffer allegedly broke in. Later, reflecting Combs' earlier threats, Kid Cudi's Porsche was bombed with a Molotov cocktail (this incident being the arson attack charge). 'Of course, the defendant was behind this. Now it shouldn't come as a surprise to you that we're not suggesting the defendant personally cut the hole in Kid Cudi's Porsche,' Slavik said. 'You heard the audio notes. The defendant didn't even buy his own soup.' The bribery charge related to the harrowing footage, shown over 10 times throughout the trial to jurors, of the moment in 2016 when Combs assaulted Cassie Ventura in an elevator lobby at the InterContinental Hotel. The defendant has previously admitted to and apologized for the incident. Nevertheless, the footage has become central to the case against him and severely damaged his public reputation when it leaked to CNN last year. 'The defendant knew what he had done and knew the potential consequence,' Slavik said. 'He knew that he could be arrested if the police knew what he did to Cassie at that hotel.' Kristina Khorram, Combs' former chief of staff, and D-Roc, then his loyal lead security guard, allegedly led an effort to get the footage from a security guard. Ultimately, Khorram tracked down the video surveillance footage and found hotel personnel to speak with about buying the only copy — which they did, together, for $100,000, paid to a staffer in cash and ultimately split between three men working at the hotel. Deputizing Khorram and D-Roc is a prime example of how Combs operated with his staff, which prosecutors allege was a 'criminal enterprise.' Slavik mentioned that Combs told the staffer who took the cash not to make any big purchases with it. 'That moment tells you everything you need to know about the defendant's purpose in paying this bribe – think about why the defendant said that,' she told the jury. '[This incident shows] the defendant's assault of Cassie during a 'freak-off' and members of the Combs' enterprise not stopping at anything to make sure the video wouldn't fall into the hands of law enforcement.' SiriusXM launching 24/7 pro wrestling channel in July

Pro wrestling has gone from a once a week show on SiriusXM to having its own channel. The satellite radio provider announced Thursday that Pro Wrestling Nation 24/7 will take over Channel 156 beginning Tuesday. Channel 156 has been SiriusXM Fight Nation, which has carried pro wrestling, MMA and boxing shows. 'I couldn't be more excited,' said Dave LaGreca, the longtime host of 'Busted Open,' which started as a one-hour weekly show in 2009. 'I really owe it to our fans. They've really been dedicated and asked for this for years. It's a dream come true to actually see it form. And now, it's about to happen.' 'Busted Open' expanded to five days a week in 2018 before going to six days one year later. It will have a live episode seven days a week from 9 a.m.-noon EDT on the new channel featuring LaGreca with wrestling stars Bully Ray, Mark Henry and Tommy Dreamer. The show has appealed to fans of both WWE and AEW with video clips of interviews getting plenty of engagement on social media. The channel's daily lineup will also feature programs from Sam Roberts, Peter Rosenberg, Jonathan Coachman, Natalya and Matt Cardona. Five nights a week there will be a 'Busted Open After Dark' program, where fans can call in and react after WWE and AEW shows. 'The great thing is we're not associated with WWE or AEW, so we can give our honest opinion about both products,' said LaGreca, who signed a multi-year extension with SiriusXM. 'The fact that there is a little bit of tension between those two companies and even the fans, it makes it even better for what we're doing on air. The fact that there are more companies that are succeeding at record-breaking levels is even better for our brand, and the big reason why we're going 24/7.' Pro wrestling also can claim — at least on satellite radio — for being on an level playing field with professional sports leagues and major college conferences in having a dedicated channel. 'The appetite for wrestling content continues to increase, and we're able to uniquely meet the demand of those fans by delivering a new 24/7 channel just for them,' said Jared Fox, SiriusXM's Senior Vice President for Sports Programming, Content Marketing & Partnerships, and Artist Relations. 'We have a long track record of building dedicated sports channels that fans love." LaGreca said he is hoping to add more analysts as well as continue to seek input from fans on possible additions or lineup changes.
