Kelantan hospital worker charged with machete attack on ex-wife's husband in Kubang Kerian
KOTA BHARU, July 27 — A healthcare assistant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the husband of his ex-wife. Nik Mohd Helmy Raja Sulong, 38, who is a ward attendant at a hospital here, is charged with committing the offence against the victim by using a machete on a roadside in Kampung Pulau Raja, Kubang Kerian, at 3 am on July 16 this year. The charge, framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping if convicted. Judge Zulkilfi Abllah allowed him bail of RM10,000 with one surety and also ordered him to report to a nearby police station once a month, surrender his passport to the court and not intimidate the victim and witnesses. The court set Aug 26 for mention. Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution, while Nik Mohd Helmy was represented by lawyer Muhammad Fariduddin Mat Noor. — Bernama

Coconut milk trader, 64, charged with raping 18-year-old sister-in-law in Bachok
KOTA BHARU, July 27 — A 64-year-old man, who has two wives, was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping his 18-year-old sister-in-law in January. According to the New Sunday Times (NST), the accused, whose name was not revealed, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. The charge stated that the man was accused of raping his sister-in-law in a room at a residence in Kubang Golok, Bachok, at around 3pm on January 18. He faced charges under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and whipping upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nurie Ab Rahman. NST reported that Siti Hajar opposed bail, citing the close family ties between the victim and the accused, as both families live together. However, Ahmad Nurie requested bail on the grounds that his client, a coconut milk trader, is the sole breadwinner and has two wives to support. The court eventually granted bail of RM12,000 with one surety, and set August 25 as the next hearing date.

Elderly man with two wives charged with raping sister-in-law
KOTA BARU: A 64-year-old man with two wives was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping his sister-in-law at a village in Kubang Golok, Bachok, in January this year. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. According to the charge sheet, the accused is alleged to have raped his 18-year-old sister-in-law in a room at a house at 3pm on Jan 18. He was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nurie Ab Rahman. Earlier, Siti Hajar did not offer bail, stating that the victim is the accused's sister-in-law and that both the accused's and the victim's families live together. Ahmad Nurie, however, requested bail on the grounds that his client, who works as a coconut milk trader, has to support his family and has two wives. The court later granted bail of RM12,000 with one surety and set Aug 25 for mention.

Intellectually disabled teen charged with murder
Tuan Izmal Firdaus Tuan Muda was charged in the magistrates' court in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, under Section 302 of the Penal Code. (Bernama pic) TANAH MERAH : A teenager with intellectual disability was charged in the magistrates' court here today with the murder of a senior citizen. Tuan Izmal Firdaus Tuan Muda, 18, nodded after the charge was read to him before magistrate Tun Faez Fikhrie. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. He was charged with murdering Shamsudin Mohamed, 60, at the side of the road next to a grocery store in Kampung Buluh, Gual Ipoh, here between 6pm and 6.30pm on June 19. The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 to 40 years and a minimum whipping of 12 strokes, upon conviction. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan while the accused was unrepresented. The court set Sept 2 for mention of the case.
