Ski Broncs duo to compete in world waterskiing championship in Australia
LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Ski Broncs water skiing duo Dalton Meyers and Lily Roman have been invited to a world championship in Australia.
It's a journey that began two years ago for the duo.
'I came in and I was like, I mean, I'd like to do doubles, but I want to try and take off with it. So that's where we kind of went together and tried to get it, get be and be as competitive as we possibly could be. The drive both of us have a drive to be to, to do better and get better,' Meyers said.
The pair immediately brought home two Top 4 finishes at the U.S. Nationals.
That hard work culminated in an invitation to the 2025 International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation World Show Ski Championship.
'I knew even before the announcement that we were going to go, like I could just feel it. But once we got the actual announcement, I was like, We're really going. And I got more nervous. But I'm mostly excited,' Roman said.
'It was an exciting feeling. We're like, All right. Everything's this is what it's all for. We're we're going to get to go. This is exciting,' Meyer said.
The pairing is an exhibition of youthful energy and veteran experience. Roman is just 14 years old, while Meyers is 25 and a 14-year Ski Broncs member.
'Both of us have a drive to be to do better and get better. We both want to succeed. So that's probably the main thing that keeps us going. If either one of us weren't on the same page of wanting to be better or do better, it probably wouldn't work out so well,' Meyer said.
With the competition just weeks away, both Meyer and Roman have set their sights on coming home victorious.
'I want to win. But I'm really happy with anything like that. And I really want to stay dry, but I'm just happy that we're going in the first place. The opportunity is amazing. I hope we do well. Well, I know we'll do well, but I really just hope that we do our best,' Roman said.
The 2025 International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation World Show Ski Championship take place March 21st through the 23rd in Mulawala, Australia.
