Heat warnings issued for Edmonton, Calgary and other parts of Alberta
One day before Canada Day, a holiday many people associate with the beginning of summer, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning for much of Alberta, including the province's two largest cities. Some showers, some sunshine for Father's Day Weekend
The weekend forecast doesn't look perfect, but overall not bad compared to some weekends we've seen as of late! Saturday starts off with a few showers, especially in Southern Vermont, south of Route 4 . That's we're rainfall totals could reach up to 0.25″ and we're drying out as we head towards late morning. At that point Northern zones will start to see some clearing leaving us with a partly sunny afternoon, unfortunately southern zones hold on to the clouds for most of the day. Father's Day looks to be a great one with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the middle 70s. One or two spot showers can't be ruled out in the higher terrain, but don't let that stop you from enjoying camping, fishing or golfing with Dad! Nice weather Friday; Rain to start Saturday
We've got a beautiful day on the way Friday, with partly to mostly sunny skies, and some high thin cirrus clouds filtering during the afternoon. Temperatures are a little cooler than as of late, only climbing into the middle and upper 60s, about 5 to 10 degrees below average. As we move towards midnight Saturday morning, a few showers will being to work in from the west. That precipitation becomes more widespread as daybreak approaches. Rainfall totals range between a quarter and a half an inch for most, and we're drying out by Saturday afternoon, although likely holding on to a lot of clouds. The Father's Day forecast is improving, as high pressure move in from the northwest. Right now I'm thinking skies will be partly sunny with a few spotty afternoon showers. Temperatures for both weekend days climb to the upper 60s and lower 70s! Have a great night! -Skytracker Chief Meteorologist Haley Bouley Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Rain ends, sun breaks out Saturday afternoon
We have a rainy start to Saturday as a cold front and low pressure system works through the region, but have no fear! The weekend does not look like a wash out! By afternoon our winds will begin to shift to the Northwest allowing for dry air to filter in from the west leaving us with a partly sunny finish to the day. There could be an isolated spot shower or two working southeast during the afternoon, otherwise temperatures climb to the middle and upper 70's. We are watching for some additional wildfire smoke to pass through the region, especially close to the ground, leaving to unhealthy air quality especially in the counties highlighted in gray! Sunday features partly to mostly sunny skies, and temperatures climbing into the upper 70's Have a great weekend! -Skytracker Chief Meteorologist Haley Bouley Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Heavy rain; Isolated flash flooding possible Saturday
All is quiet around the region tonight, but that will change as we move towards dawn Saturday morning. Our storm system looks to be tracking a bit further inland, bringing some of the higher rainfall totals to our region, and increasing our risk for flash flooding. Although most of our larger waterways look to remain within their banks (Otter Creek is the only spot expected to enter 'Action Stage') but sharp rises on smaller streams and creeks could wash out dirt roads and clog culverts. Rainfall totals range between 1-2″ for most folks, but some isolated locations east of the Green Mountains could reach 2-3″+ The clouds hold on Sunday, but we're only left with a few sprinkles or spot showers and temperatures climb into the upper 50's and lower 60's for both days this weekend!
