Fatal crash claims lives of two youths in Miri

MIRI (July 6): Two youths were killed after the car they travelling in crashed into a roadside tree in front of a primary school here along Jalan Kuala Baram Bypass early this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in a statement, identified the deceased as Roquell Brain Roland and Slyvester Ribai Tuah, both aged 19.
Bomba said they were notified about the incident at around 2.30am and firefighters from the Lopeng and Lutong fire stations were dispatched to the scene.
'Upon arrival, it was found that two men were trapped inside the car. The firefighters proceeded to extricated the victims from the vehicle,' it added.
Bomba said both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and were handed over to the police for further action.
Meanwhile, Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement, said the vehicle was travelling from the direction of Sungai Tujoh heading towards Miri city centre.
'Upon reaching the area near E-Mart Tudan supermarket, the car lost control, skidded onto the left shoulder of the road and crashed into a tree.
'Both the driver and passenger sustained injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene,' he added.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are urging members of the public who have information related to the incident to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Insp Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan at 018-952 9957, 085-433 400, or any nearby police station.
