Jordan and Syria Discuss Digital Cooperation - Jordan News
Jordan and Syria have held discussions on enhancing digital cooperation between the two countries during a meeting between Jordan's Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, and Syria's Minister of Communications and Technology, Abdul Salam Haykal, in Amman. اضافة اعلان During the official meeting, Smeirat and Haykal discussed bilateral cooperation in the fields of telecommunications, information technology, and cybersecurity. Haykal visited the National Cyber Security Center, where he was briefed on its functions and ongoing operations. He is also scheduled to visit the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and meet with several private sector institutions. Haykal began his working visit to Jordan on Monday, heading an official delegation from the Syrian ministry, in response to an invitation extended by Minister Smeirat. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Smeirat welcomed the Syrian minister and his delegation to Jordan, stating: "Over the next two days, we aim to hold productive meetings and strengthen cooperation and joint efforts between our two brotherly countries, particularly in the areas of digital transformation and telecommunications." In a post on LinkedIn, Minister Haykal noted that the visit is part of efforts to expand bilateral cooperation in communications, technology, and entrepreneurship, by learning from Jordan's 'advanced' experience in these sectors. It's worth noting that Jordan achieved an advanced ranking in the 2024 UN E-Government Development Index issued by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), climbing 11 spots to rank 89th out of 193 countries, compared to 100th in 2022. Additionally, Jordan ranked 33rd globally and 4th in the Arab world in terms of internet speed, with an average fixed internet speed of 142 Mbps in 2024.

Digital Economy Ministry operates smart gates at QAIA soon
Ammon News - The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship announced that smart gates at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA)will soon be operational, in a move aimed at providing a smoother, faster, and smarter travel experience. In a post on X, the ministry indicated that the next phase will witness the official launch of the service, adding that: "Coming soon to Queen Alia International Airport... an easier, faster, and smarter travel experience. Get ready to embark through the smart gates." This announcement complements previous statements made by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, in May, in which he confirmed that five smart gates for arrivals and four gates for departures had been installed at Queen Alia International Airport, and that these gates were in the trial phase. Smeirat noted that the gates are scheduled to begin operating at the end of June, and will be dedicated in their first phase to Jordanian citizens only, both arriving and departing, in a move aimed at expediting procedures and improving the travel experience through the latest digital solutions.

According to a ministry statement on Thursday, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Smeirat held a series of meetings with his counterparts and representatives of several international companies specialised in ICT fields. Talks discussed ways to enhance cooperation in fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and 5th-generation networks, aimed to enhancing digital innovation in Jordan and building "strategic" partnerships with "leading" global companies. The minister stressed the importance of boosting partnerships and investing in Jordanian competencies and mechanisms to create more job opportunities in the technology sector and support startups and entrepreneurs in Jordan. On goals of Jordan's participation, he noted the event comes within the framework of the Kingdom's "continuous" efforts to highlight investment opportunities in the digital sector and enhance its "position as a regional centre for technological innovation." Smeirat noted that several global companies affirmed their support for this vision, which expressed their commitment to expanding their business in the Kingdom, which would contribute "significantly" to creating new job opportunities and supporting the sector's growth. The statement noted the participation comes within the framework of Jordanian efforts to develop an "advanced" digital environment that keeps pace with the "latest" global trends in the communications and technology areas. The statement also said that Jordan aims to enhance international cooperation and open "new" horizons for investment and innovation in the digital sector.

Amman, Jordan: The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), the world's first standalone international intergovernmental organization focusing on the acceleration of the growth of an inclusive and sustainable digital economy, has unveiled the winners of the Digital Prosperity Awards at a ceremony held at its 4th General Assembly gala dinner hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in the Dead Sea. Attended by high-level delegations from DCO's 16 Member States, as well as DCO's Observers, Partners, and distinguished guests, the Awards aim to acknowledge exceptional initiatives in adopting best practices, policies, and strategies to accelerate digital transformation in their respective countries. The objective is to accelerate digital economic advancement and lay the groundwork for constructive cooperation, cultivating shared vision and aspirations among all stakeholders. This year's Digital Prosperity Awards ceremony was sponsored by Elm. Global contributions which empower governments, businesses and communities to collaborate and accelerate digital economic advancement are celebrated in the following pillars: Digital Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Empowering Society. A total of seven winners were recognized in 2025, representing the public sector, private sector, and civil society. In the Digital Innovation pillar, Ynmo from Saudi Arabia won the Disruptive Technology Solutions category. Digital Cooperation Organization to Hold its Fourth General Assembly Meeting in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
The Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) – the world's first standalone international intergovernmental organization focusing on the acceleration of the growth of an inclusive and sustainable digital economy – will hold its fourth General Assembly meeting, hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center in the Dead Sea. Chaired by His Excellency Eng. Sami Smeirat, Jordan's Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Chairperson of the DCO council, the annual meeting will be attended by ministers and officials representing the 16 Member States of the DCO. Participation will include high-level delegates from Member States, Guest countries, International Organizations, observers, and digital economy experts. The General Assembly will address several important issues related to strengthening digital cooperation among Member States, accelerating the growth of the digital economy, supporting technological innovation, and exploring ways to overcome challenges hindering inclusive and sustainable growth in the digital world. In preparation of this occasion, H.E. Eng. Sami Smeirat, Jordan's Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the Chairperson of the DCO Council, stated: 'We look forward to welcoming delegations from Member States, representatives of international organizations, and experts in technology and the digital economy.
