Beyond The Gates Recap: Vanessa and Doug Stop Joey From Killing Randy

Beyond The Gates Recap: Vanessa and Doug Stop Joey From Killing Randy originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Police Department: Jacob and Smitty are chatting over coffee. Jacob is stunned at how forthcoming Malone has been with information that day. He thinks the good detective is absolutely shook. They both agree his dad and Malone are running interference. Smitty says he wanted Malone to know he was the one who hacked his accounts. Jacob is impressed he was playing the veteran cop like a fiddle. Smitty wants them to remember that something major must have gone down to result in a payment of 500 grand. Smitty asks if Jacob is still in and they get back to breaking down the information they know. They think all the information they know doesn't add up. Smitty wonders if Malone was at the station that night two years ago. Jacob pulls up time logs and notes the day before the incident Jacob took his detective exam and was there late. He flashes back and remembers running into (Malone?). They chat a bit more before Smitty makes his exit. Just then, Elon walks up behind him. He asks his son if everything is ok and Jacob flashes back to running into his father that night two years ago. Jacob recounts some of the information Smitty has on Malone but Elon thinks the reporter is trying to dig up trouble. Jacob disagrees and wonders if his father knows what Smitty will find. Elon is evasive and Jacob says he remembers the night two years prior because he took the detectives exam. He remembers running smack into his father when he was in street clothes which is the same night Martin came home to Smitty looking completely frazzled. Jacob reminds his father that he molded him as a police officer. Elon always told his son to stand on justice even if it hurts. He asks his father again what happened that night. Martin and Smitty's Place: Samantha arrives home to an annoyed Martin. He says she will be staying home the rest of the evening and Tyrell fills her in on the Kenneth of it all. Martin says, as a Congressman, sometimes folks target him and his family. He's not providing them details but is simply trying to keep folks safe. Samantha and Tyrell are made nervous by Martin's behavior and head upstairs. Afterwards, Martin checks the doors and sits on the sofa with a baseball bat. Joey's Gambling Pit: Malone hauls Randy in to take his punishment from Joey. He thought he knew the rules of the game and wonders when and why he went rogue. Randy says he just needed a little money to start over and was then going to pay him back. Malone indicates he found Randy at the international terminal about to leave for Bali. Joey makes it very clear that Randy is headed to a very cold climate (six feet under). Randy scrambles saying he tried to take out Kenneth but only nicked him. When he got away, he knew he hadn't done his job. Randy wanted to get away until he could figure out how to finish the job. He reminds Joey this is the first time he messed up. Joey says he is useless but Randy promises he can still do the job. Joey indicates he will not get another chance but will leave his kid and the mother alone. Malone is told to escort Randy out just as Doug and Vanessa arrive. Randy tells them to get gone and Joey concurs. Vanessa recognizes Malone and wonders what Internal Affairs will think about his moonlighting gig. Joey asks for the room and Malone exits. Doug stands up for Randy saying he has his back. Joey tells them to mind their own business. Vanessa and Doug say they followed Randy to the airport and saw Malone cart him back here. Joey says the conversation is over. Vanessa agrees and says they are leaving with Randy in tow. Joey pushes back when Vanessa says harming Randy will cost him and references their business connection. She says all will work well if Randy remains alive and is allowed to relocate. Joey relents and agrees to leave Randy alone for now. He tells Vanessa to stay as Doug and Randy exit. Uptown: Dani walks over to Andre and Ashley's table and takes a seat. She's surprised to see them together. Ashley and Andre get all kinds of awkward as they aren't on the same page with how they're defining their get together. Dani wonders if Ashley is just another notch on Andre's bedpost. Andre begins double speak saying there was a woman he got close to but she was too focused on the past to move on with him. Dani asks what drew him to this woman and Andre says she was a lot like her. Ashley thinks anyone who lets Andre slip through her fingers is crazy. Dani says their words are valid. They go back and forth with this game long enough that one wonders why Ashley doesn't catch on. Ashley stops Dani's spiral and says they were there for a while before she showed up and thinks it's time for her to head home. She heads off to 'freshen up' leaving Dani to give Andre the business. He accuses Dani of being jealous over what she so carelessly threw away. Dani is bored with the conversation. She thinks he can't handle a real woman which is why he went after someone 'so basic she makes vanilla look spicy (Giggle). Just then, Ashley returns. Martin and Smitty's Place: Martin has fallen asleep and dreams of the night from two years ago. In the middle of the dream, Smitty's voice wakes him up and he tells his husband he's home and safe. Smitty once again asks about the nightmare but Martin continues to be evasive. Smitty doubles down and says he deserves answers. He'll support him no matter what his husband tells him. With tears in his eyes, Smitty begs Martin to tell him the truth. Martin says he can't but Smitty says they can face anything together. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Ashley asks if Andre is ready to go. Ashley asks if Dani needs a ride but she sends the couple on her way. Vanessa hardens and sends Randy and Doug on their way. Joey is furious at Vanessa for the lines she just crossed. She toys with him and he says she drives him crazy. Joey pulls her to him and they get started on another romp on the poker table. Elon tells Jacob all the pieces he's trying to put together don't add up. He says Jacob's passion for justice is blinding him. Elon flat out lies saying there is nothing to tell and let ghosts rest. Jacob appears to relent and Elon exits. Martin tells Smitty he loves him and keeps things locked away to protect their family and future. Smitty begs his husband to be honest with him. Martin says he is too tired to have this conversation and Smitty backs down. They agree to talk in the morning and head upstairs. Keep checking back for the latest Beyond The Gates recaps! Love Is Love In The Afternoon: Here's Which Soap Won Pride Month

As Pride Month comes to an end, let's take a look back at daytime's front burner LGBTQ+ characters and see which soap came out on top. Smitty (Mike Manning) and Martin (Brandon Claybon) have been a popular couple amongst Beyond The Gates fans, but their story has never been perfect. The husbands have struggled from the start, with Martin's determination to keep Smitty from going back to work as an investigative reporter. But this month, all his investigating is leading him to discover his husband's buried secret. READ THIS: Here's what's coming up on BTG. From their budding romance to their memorable marriage, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) have been a Young and the Restless supercouple for years. But lately, the couple has been anything but super. With Mariah's secret just itching to come out, it's put a noticeable strain on their marriage, especially if this secret involves the nefarious Ian (Ray Wise). With Kristina (Kate Mansi) single and ready to cause more chaos and Aiden off on a European adventure with his dad, Lucas (Van Hansis) and Marco (Adrian Anchondo) are taking the reigns as Port Charles' latest gay couple on General Hospital. In June, they shared with each other the significance of their coming outs, from Lucas' accepting mobster father to Marco's not-so-accepting momager mother. WATCH THIS: Did you know Soap Hub has a podcast?! Check it out here! The soap that absolutely slayed Pride Month was Days of our Lives. Not only did we see some sweet moments between Leo (Greg Rikaart) and Javi (Al Calderon) and the return of a history-making Salemite, Will (Chandler Massey), but we were also gifted the beautiful Salem wedding for Paul (Christopher Sean) and Andrew (Colton Little). Eric noted he was honored to officiate a same-sex marriage after his past as a Catholic priest, and several Salemites past and present joined the couple to celebrate their love. Beyond The Gates Recap: Nicole Chooses Herself Over Her Marriage

Beyond The Gates Recap: Nicole Chooses Herself Over Her Marriage originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Beyond The Gates recap: Police Station: Jacob tells his father about June's case and the clean up crew. Elon says how proud he is of his son when he gets a call and walks away. Just then, Smitty arrives to see Jacob. He asks if they can go elsewhere as what he has to share is about a police officer. Specifically, he has come across information about one of their officers being on the take, as Elon listens in. Jacob reluctantly agrees to head out and the two exit. Elon makes a call to meet up with someone in their regular place. Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Vernon enters and is screaming at someone on the phone about losing the young waiter. He promises the person on the other end will pay the price. Vernon plays the piano when the phone buzzes. He picks up and says, 'what now?!' When he hears Anita's voice, Vernon apologizes and tries to cover. He asks about The Articulettes and she says things are going swimmingly. Anita wonders what Vernon isn't telling her but he continues to cover. Fairmont Country Club: Martin catches up with the young waiter who finally admits their connection from that dreaded night. He says Martin's friends in high places kept him comfortable for a while but he's back to make certain he pays for his sins. Martin wonders the sins of which he speaks, and the young waiter speaks loudly about a dark night on a back road several years ago. Martin asks how much to make him disappear. The young waiter says he has lost the last two years of his life while everyone else pays for Martin's sins. He notes when you are black royalty everyone else cleans up your messes (another race-based comment). The young waiter says he must speak for his brother who is no longer with them (a clue!). He says Martin should trust him as his day is coming. With that, he storms off. Garland Memorial Hospital - Lobby: Vanessa walks in talking to Joey about their next connection. As they hang up, Doug walks up. She says will be meeting with Joey in empty homes for sale. He tells his wife to make sure she cleans up the bedroom. Vanessa wonders why he agreed to work with Joey when he's clearly not comfortable. They move out of the main lobby where Doug says he never wanted Vanessa to agree to anything illegal to pay off his debt. She thinks his displeasure has more to do with Joey than the legalities. Doug says he knows his wife is attracted to the danger Joey brings. She says she has a plan to learn everything about Joey and will cover her ass. Doug gets snarky before apologizing. Vanessa warns him not to judge her as he is responsible for their current situation. Doug wonders where their marriage will be when all is said and done. Garland Memorial Hospital – Ted's Office: Nicole arrives to say he got the flowers, and she says there's no need to continue to send them as she doesn't take them home. Nicole has actually arrived for them to consider revising their living trust and medical proxies. Ted wants to move back in so they can save their marriage before it's too late. He wants to somehow show her that he is still worthy of her love and trust. Nicole just can't with Ted and says these are things she needs to do for her. Ted goes on and on trying to convince her to give their marriage another chance but finally concedes defeat. Nicole says she has practiced the words, 'I forgive you. Please come home.' However, she doesn't believe them and can never say them. Nicole can't forget what he did with Leslie, the lies he told and how it all makes her feel like their history together is completely false. She says Ted broke her. He is trying to save their marriage while she is trying to save herself. With that, she gathers her papers and exits. Orphey Gene's: Smitty talks about the puff piece on Marcel and Jacob realizes he thinks his partner is on the take. Jacob immediately freaks because Marcel is his partner and their careers are linked. Smitty says it's why he came to him directly so they can review the evidence together. Smitty shows him the information about the connection to Joey and Jacob says it's all speculation. Smitty continues with the information about the house and boat in the Carribean and Marcel's plan to move there after retirement. Jacob counters none of that is a secret as he tells everyone. Smitty continues by discussing Marcel's bank records noting a recent $5,000 cash deposit… leading Jacob to remember seeing Marcel and Joey's handoff a few months prior. Smitty notes another deposit of the same amount two years ago but for half a million dollars. Smitty realizes Jacob knows something and tells Smitty about the handoff he witnessed. However, his father said it was a part of an undercover operation. Jacob says Marcel being dirty is one thing. It's a whole other thing if they're talking about his father, the Chief of Police, also being dirty and lying to his face. Smitty apologizes for the position he's put Jacob in. Jacob thinks if his dad is involved in all of this, Marcel is playing him. Smitty asks Jacob to think back two years. Were there any big investigations that suddenly dried up? Jacob admits he was on patrol back then but would have heard about anything wonky. Jacob still wants to maintain the possibility that everything is a coincidence. Smitty bets his journalist instinct that something happened two years ago that benefitted Marcel to the tune of 500k and maintains the link is through Joey Armstrong. Joey's Gambling Pit: Marcel and Elon meet up and discuss how there's been a hack into his bank accounts from an unknown computer. They both know for a fact Smitty is responsible. Elon recounts how Smitty just told Jacob about his suspicions before they left the precinct together. Just then, Joey walks in. The three men take a seat and play cards. Joey makes digs at how bad they are at the game but they are more worried about their current situation and how they shut it down. Elon says he will try to throw his son off the scent. Marcel thinks Smitty is still a problem and is willing to take him out. Joey thinks violence is never a proper solution and wants to deal another hand. Elon says he's out as life is enough of a gamble these days. Just then, Vanessa arrives on the scene and Joey introduces her to the police chief and detective as his gambling buddies and her as his business partner. With that, Joey pushes the two men out Anita and Vernon's Mansion: Martin walks in and Vernon says he was right to fill him in on the latest. Grandpa is not thrilled his grandson disregarded his orders and confronted the young waiter. Vernon says he made a call and confirmed the dreaded night from two years ago has come back to haunt them. Martin notes the young waiter's words and tone of voice saying he wants to destroy them. Vernon sets his jaw and says that will never happen. Vernon tells his grandson to mind his business and simply let him know when the young waiter approaches with his demands. Garland Memorial Hospital – Lobby: Doug leaves Vanessa in his dust when Nicole walks up. She asks if her friend is ok and Vanessa says she is living the life she wants to live and everyone else can kick rocks. With that, she dramatically makes her exit. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings As Ted leaves the hospital, he spies Nicole who turns her back on him. Joey pours Vanessa a martini and says they need to establish some boundaries for their new relationship. He thinks there are topics to avoid but she wants to know everything. He knows if she knew everything about him that she would quickly disappear. Vanessa thinks he should try her. Jacob doesn't know how he's supposed to go back to the station and pretend he doesn't know what he does. Martin knows it's a problem and hates he gets to go home and simply spend time with his family (little does he know). Vernon tells Martin he will take care of the family as he always has. Martin asks that his grandfather never lie to him again. He needs to be apprised of everything his grandfather knows. Vernon agrees and Martin exits. Afterwards, Vernon grabs his phone, calls someone and says, 'he's back.' Keep checking back for the latest Beyond The Gates recaps! Chelsea says she has to continue to feed the beast, but Madison thinks she is just looking for a dopamine hit. Chelsea says this is her work and Madison recognizes her pride in what she does, which is the same way she feels about her occupation. Madison says sometimes the most important connections happen when you put the phone down. With that, she makes her exit. Martin and Smitty's Home: Samantha asks Smitty, 'what's gay sex like' which leads him to do a spit take. She says it's for the community college course she's taking, and the first assignment is human sexuality. Smitty wonders how she got permission, and she says Martin signed off on it. Smitty thinks if he signed the papers, he can answer the questions. They both wonder why he's not home yet. The waiter continues to play games, but Martin knows they have a connection. He hands the waiter a bill and tells him to say, 'let's see what color's your money.' When he says it in an angry voice, Martin flashes back to that dreaded night. With that, the nosy waiter heads back to work. Fairmont Country Club – Lobby: Ashley storms in demanding to know why Naomi hasn't answered her calls. She can't believe she let Derek go through with the proposal. Naomi doesn't know what she was supposed to do when Derek approached her. She wanted to make sure he got something nice. Ashley can't believe she would help Derek when Naomi had to know a proposal wasn't what she wanted. Naomi wants to take their discussion inside the dining room and cancels her appointment with her client. Just then, Martin walks up and Ashley heads into the dining room. Martin and Naomi quickly catch up. She asks if he's ok and says she is always in his corner. A distraught Martin sends Naomi end to talk with Ashley. Before he can exit, the nosy waiter walks in. Fairmont Country Club – Bar: Ashley and Naomi down tequila shots and order more. Ashley apologizes for being extra. Naomi apologizes because she had her doubts about Derek's proposal. Ashley says he was so destroyed when she turned him down. Naomi thinks Derek will figure it out but wonders why she wasn't ready to seal the deal with Derek. Naomi reminds Ashley how she was there for her when she and Jacob had their issues. Ashely says it's not the same because they were meant to be together. Naomi thinks Ashley is making excuses and wants her to be honest. She asks her friend if there is someone else. Orphey Gene's: Jacob arrives, and Derek says the proposal was a bust. He says Ashley wants to marry him just not now. Jacob says at least she didn't say never. Derek counters Ashley thought the proposal was a test and Jacob wonders if she was right. Derek is coming to his senses and hates that he pushed Ashley. Jacob inquires and he says he was simply looking for some stability in his life. That being said, he wonders what is holding his beloved back. Andre tells Jacob and Derek he saw Ashley at Uptown because he thought they would be popping bottles in celebration. He assures Derek, she loves him, but he wonders why he was told no. With that, Derek hits the trail. Dani's Place: Andre arrives and kisses Dani. He says they need to talk and tells her about running into Chelsea and Kat. Andre worries his arrival gave their situation away. Dani is a wee freaked, but Andre thinks going public may be the right thing to do. Dani says she has to worry about ending up in the gossip rags and doesn't want to do anything else to rock their family. She thinks Nicole will be especially impacted but Andre thinks it's all about her and possibly Bill. Dani says Bill has nothing to say about her life since he chose to leave her for a child. Andre says he's not trying to be difficult. Dani appreciates his efforts but says she is tired of being played by men. Andre can't believe she is lumping him in with Bill, but she wonders why she shouldn't. Dani says she was fooled before and does not want to be fooled again. She asks if Andre is certain there isn't a younger woman around who might be tickling his fancy. Andre says since they started their thing, he hasn't focused on anyone but her. Dani sort of believes him and Andre thinks they should share their happiness with the world. She agrees and they seal it with a kiss. Just then, Chelsea arrives, and Dani says Andre is just leaving. Before Dani can say anything, Chelsea tells her mother she thinks she's in love. Chelsea tells her mother all about her new love interest. When she drops the name, Dani is not surprised as she knew there was a connection between her daughter and Bill's doctor. That being said, she does worry Chelsea is rushing into things so quickly. Joey's Gambling Pit: Vanessa wonders how Joey is doing, and they talk about their repeat sex on the poker table. Just then, Doug arrives on the scene. Joey pours Doug a drink. He asks what he walked in on, and Joey says Vanessa was putting the screws to him about laundering his money. Doug asks Joey to leave him alone with his wife. Vanessa tries to intercede, but Doug says THE MEN ARE TALKING! (Oh Lord). Joey pushes back but eventually relents and leaves Doug and Vanessa alone for a few minutes. Vanessa asks if Doug has lost his mind. Doug says he can't believe his wife is making back room deals with the likes of Joey. Vanessa counters Doug created this situation, and she is only trying to clean it up. She thinks her husband has some nerve asking questions of her after he has been lying for months. Vanessa thinks everything makes sense now and Doug admits he has a problem. Martin and Smitty's Home: Martin returns home, and Samantha hugs him. Smitty walks in and they briefly discuss dinner with Vernon. Samantha heads upstairs to work on her human sexuality paper which briefly freaks out Martin. Smitty asks Martin what's wrong, but he deflects. He asks about Smitty's interview with Marcel Malone. Smitty says he dug into Malone's past and found he was a bit shady back in the day. When he asks Martin about the situation, he flashes back to that dreaded night. Smitty asks about the connection between Martin's dreams and Marcel Malone. Martin says they are no longer dreams as he is hallucinating during the day. Smitty asks more questions and Martin tries to deflect. He demands to know what his husband is hiding that very minute. Martin says he can handle his own business, but Smitty is unmoved and wants him to get real help. Martin agrees but not until things clear up at work. Smitty says he has to make time or Smitty will drag him to therapy himself. Orphey Gene's: Andre arrives and tells Derek he heard about the proposal debacle from Ashley. Derek gets all kinds of snarky as his girlfriend seems to confide in Andre quite a bit. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Joey walks back in and Doug says they need 20% commission, and they will be splitting it down the middle. Joey agrees and Doug asks for specifics about the deal. Ashley downs another shot of tequila and tells Naomi there is no one else tempting her. Jacob side eyes Andre when he says he's on Derek and Ashley's side. Dani pushes Chelsea and says she should bring Madison over so the whole family can meet her. Chelsea bites back and says she should also bring her new boyfriend. Keep checking back for the latest Beyond The Gates recaps! Ted runs into Carlton who asks if he managed to win back Nicole. Carlton goes on and on about Nicole when she arrives on the scene. She makes small talk and bids Carlton farewell before exiting to her yoga class. Carlton pushes Ted to make things right quickly with his wife before someone else snaps her up (Get to snapping, Carlton!). Martin and Smitty's Place: Smitty has been assigned a new piece on a retiring police detective, Marcel Malone (Note Martin's reaction). Martin thinks it's a puff piece, but Smitty doesn't want to develop a reputation for being difficult. Just then, Zack arrives and Smitty exits. Zack says a family run business in his district was robbed and the owner was brutally assaulted. He thinks it's a good time to send out a press release highlighting Martin's commitment to fighting crime. Martin agrees and says he will reach out to the family. As Zack tells him more about the robbery, Martin flashes back to the night of his own incident. Zack continues saying folks will do anything for money which sends Martin into another flashback. Afterwards, Zack exits leaving Martin alone with his thoughts. Uptown: Jacob and Marcel arrive and discuss a case. Marcel spots Leslie and thinks she is fine as wine. Jacob says she is a viper. He explains a bit about Leslie's connection to the Peterson case and how he is this close to collaring her. Marcel mentions there used to be other ways to get around the rules, but Jacob wants to keep on the straight and narrow. Just then, Leslie exits Garland Memorial Hospital: Derek and Ashley connect for the first time in a few days. He wonders if they are all good and she assures him they are. They both admit they are out of sync when Ashley gets a call to check on a patient. As she exits, Shanice enters and asks Derek what's wrong. Andre tells Ashley about his meeting with the board about the documentary. They've signed off which means he won't be around as much. Andre makes mention of Derek which leads Ashley to fill him in on the situation. Nicole and Ted's Home: Kat arrives to ask Mona about Leslie. Mona is still blaming herself for Leslie and Mona's presence, but Kat says to let it go. That being said, she has formulated a plan to allow Mona to help get rid of Leslie. Fairmont Country Club: Eva and Ted take a seat. She admits she felt more useful yesterday with Laura than at the salon. It made her remember how much she loved her work with Nicole. Ted realizes they may be able to help each other. He notes how Carlton has returned, and Kat has taken a leave of absence. Ted believes Eva could do the job. Eva is flattered but can't understand how he can trust her. Ted gets it but blames Leslie for everything. Further, he wants one of his daughters in the office. They chat a bit more and Eva agrees to take the job. She does wonder how Kat will feel about the situation. Just then, Colton arrives and Ted introduces him to their new office manager. Uptown: Derek meets up with Nicole who asks for details about Ashely. He says things are weird as they are being overly polite with one another. Naomi asks if he loves her and says that's all that matters. Derek isn't so sure, and Naomi tells him time is precious and urges him to fight for his relationship. Orphey Gene's: Leslie arrives to see Mona. She wonders why Mona invited her. Mona apologizes for lashing out and Leslie takes a seat. Kat watches on as her plan comes together. Mona tells Leslie she is open to hearing her out so she can get her point of view. Leslie talks about not getting over Ted and how, after Allan died, she snapped. Just then, Jacob arrives and sits in a nearby booth with Kat. Jacob is annoyed with Kat's continued meddling. He notes how she and Leslie have a lot in common. She blows off his comparison and says she is determined to rid her family of both Leslie and Eva. Unlike Leslie, her heart is in the right place. Mona tells Leslie she has a little smudge of something on the corner of her mouth, and she wipes it up. They go on with their conversation and Mona admits she doesn't blame Leslie for telling Ted about Eva. That being said, the way she went about it was shameful. She can't get past Leslie taking delight in Nicole's pain. Nicole and Ted's Home: Martin arrives to see his mother and he learns about his grandmother's revisiting his past. Nicole notes something is wrong, and Martin asks for a bit of advice. He admits to having nightmares and flashbacks which are hard to describe. Martin remembers flashing lights, loud noises and screaming. He tells his mother he thinks he is losing his mind. Nicole asks if he knows the origins, but Martin says he has no clue. He says the nightmares began far before Leslie: The Miniseries. Martin says his only real current stress is work and the kids but nothing new. Nicole asks how they make her feel and Martin says both scared and guilty. She thinks he needs to see a therapist and he promises to use one of her referrals. With that, he makes his exit. Previous Beyond The Gates Recap: Endings Martin arrives and our favorite waiter/spy chases after him. Leslie says Mona is cruel for luring her to their favorite spot only to be brutally rebuffed. After her exit, Kat thanks Mona, grabs the napkin and re-joins Jacob. She explains the napkin was disposed of in public so the chain of custody should be clean (I'm not sure that's how any of this works). Keep checking back for the latest Beyond The Gates recaps!
