Sarah Snook and Dave Lawson's Friendship Turned Into a Whirlwind Romance During the Pandemic
Succession star Sarah Snook recently added to her collection of awards with her Tony win for The Picture of Dorian Gray. The dynamic actress is a powerhouse onstage and on-screen. Her private life seems to match her success in public, with a loving marriage of almost four years with actor Dave Lawson. Here's everything to know about Lawson and his connection to Snook so far. David Lawson is originally from Melbourne and is an actor, just like Snook. He grew up in Victoria, then went to private school Haileybury College. He studied advertising and marketing at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, according to his LinkedIn profile. His first big role was as the host of Saturday Nick Television on Nickelodeon Australia. 'I never set out to be a kid show host. That was never on the cards. But then, you know, you get through one audition, then you get to another and then you start getting excited and go, 'I actually really want to do this now,'' he said on the Funny In Failure podcast. He also shared how his parents felt about the career pivot: 'I said to Dad, 'I want to really, really want to try acting,' and he said, 'Well, all right, you should give it a go then for a bit but give yourself a cut off time.' But he was supportive as well because he said, 'You know 99 percent of actors are out of work but that also means that 1 percent are in work.' That was great.' Lawson has acted as well as hosted, with credits in Bruce, Utopia, Peter Rabbit, Wentworth, Blue Heelers, The Crew's Ship, and more. In 2020, Snook was nominated for an Emmy for her role as Siobhan Roy in Succession, but the public ceremony was canceled due to COVID-19. Lawson made Snook an Emmy out of tinfoil, which she later shared a photo of after she lost the official award. In 2025, when Snook won her Tony Award for The Picture of Dorian Gray for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play, she said in her speech, 'An exceptional thank you to my husband, my soulmate. You are so brilliant holding the fort down and keeping our family together.' The pair met and became friends in 2014 but did not date for years. But everything changed in 2020. 'At the beginning of the pandemic last year, I got locked down in Melbourne with one of my best mates, and we fell in love,' Snook told Vogue Australia in 2021. 'We've been friends since 2014, lived together, traveled together, always excited to see each other, but totally platonic.'She added, 'We've just never been single at the same time. It's been a ride. There's so much heartache and sadness in the world, but on a micro personal level, I've been very fortunate.' Once they knew there was romantic potential, things moved quickly. Snook proposed to Lawson on Halloween that same year, and they were married just a few months later in their Brooklyn backyard. 'We fell in love, I proposed, got married, and had a baby all in a short space of time. It's not too big a word to say 'soulmate,'' she revealed on The Graham Norton Show in 2023. Their first child arrived in May 2023 and Snook shared a cute snap of her baby's head as they watched the season finale of Succession together. Snook first announced she was pregnant at the March 2023 Succession season 4 premiere. At the 2024 Golden Globes, Snook revealed the couple welcomed a girl, saying of motherhood, 'I love it, she's the best.' She added, 'She's standing. Not walking yet, but she's standing supported. She's great. I love her.' Lawson also shared on the Funny in Failure podcast that he has a son from a previous relationship, saying, 'I can't have regrets because I wouldn't have [my son]. It's that problem, if you go back in time and change one thing. A lot of it comes back to being a dad. If I change one thing…I wouldn't want to risk undoing that.'

Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Arian Moyaed Host Tony Awards After Party at Pebble Bar
Pebble Bar was jam-packed for its Tonys after party that turned out to be a bit of a 'Succession' reunion. The late night party, held at the Rockefeller Center locale, was hosted by 'Succession' costars Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin and Arian Moyaed. Snook took home the Tony for best actress in a play for her role in 'The Picture of Dorian Gray,' and clung to her award throughout the evening, posing for photos with the statue. 'Succession' actors Juliana Canfield and Zoe Winters were also in attendance. Additional guests included Sarah Paulson, Kelli O'Hara, Zachary Quinto, Daniel Dae Kim and Kara Young, who also took home a Tony — for the second year in a row — for her role in 'Purpose.' While a host of the event, Culkin was nowhere to be seen. Broadway star O'Hara blew her a kiss as she left the scene. While Pebble Bar supplied several floors of festivities, the only place anyone wanted to be was the fourth level…conveniently the hardest place to get to. A bouncer blocked the elevator telling every attendee who tried to get past 'You can't get up there right now,' though it's where a bulk of the stars remained throughout the evening. There seemed to be sneaky alternate entrance that cohost Moyaed was taking advantage of, though he wasn't quite convinced it would work out as the crowds continued to swell in the room. Up on the fourth floor, the stars packed into a small space, enjoying cocktails and snacking on sandwiches from Schaller & Weber. As the night grew late, attendees were trying to figure out their next move. 'It's like playing tag trying to find someone in here,' one said, while another remarked that Sadie Sink was still at her private cast party for 'John Proctor Is the Villain.' Tony Awards 2025 recap: Darren Criss, Cole Escola, Sarah Snook and Nicole Scherzinger among first-time winners
The 2025 Tony Awards were presented Sunday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with Maybe Happy Ending, a rom-com about a pair of robots who fall in love, winning six, including Best Musical, in a star-studded ceremony that featured a lot of firsts. That included Darren Criss, who won his first Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Maybe Happy Ending, and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, who dazzled as a first-time Tony Awards host. Before her opening number, Erivo, who won a Tony Award in 2016 for her role in The Color Purple, received advice backstage from Oprah Winfrey, who told her, 'The only thing you need to do is be yourself.' Onstage, Erivo poked fun at the nominees, including George Clooney, whom she described as 'an up-and-comer that I think you're going to be hearing a lot about.' Clooney was nominated for a Tony Award in his Broadway debut for his portrayal of Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck but did not win. Escola was the first openly nonbinary person to win Best Leading Actor in a Play for their portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh Mary!, beating out Clooney, among others, for the award. Escola accepted the award in a silvery-blue gown inspired by Bernadette Peters's look at the 1999 ceremony. Actor Kara Young made history as the first Black person to win two Tonys consecutively for 'Purpose,' which also won Best New Play. 'Theater is a sacred space that we have to honor and treasure,' Young said in her acceptance speech. 'And it makes us united.' Snook, best known for her TV work on HBO's Succession, won the Tony Award for Leading Actress in a Play for The Picture of Dorian Gray, in which she plays all 26 roles. 'I don't feel alone any night that I do this show,' Snook said in her acceptance speech. 'There are so many people onstage making it work and behind the stage making it work.' Snook is the latest Succession actor to star on Broadway, with Jeremy Strong (An Enemy of the People), Kieran Culkin (Glengarry Glen Ross), Juliana Canfield (Stereophonic) and Molly Griggs (John Proctor Is the Villain) taking stage turns. Snook said they all participate in 'a special group chat.' 'It's a really special group of people,' she said. 'We're all theater nerds deep down.' Scherzinger won Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her Broadway debut role in Sunset Blvd., beating out Broadway legend Audra McDonald, who shares the record for most Tony Awards ever for a performer, six. In her acceptance speech, the former Pussycat Dolls singer said Broadway's welcome has made her feel at home. 'Growing up, I always felt like I didn't belong, but you all have made me feel like I belong and I have come home at last,' Scherzinger said. 'So if there's anyone out there who feels like they don't belong or your time hasn't come, don't give up. Just keep on giving and giving because the world needs your love and your light now more than ever.' The original cast of Hamilton also reunited onstage to mark the show's 10-year anniversary. The cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs, wore all black while performing a 'mixtape' medley of some of the musical's greatest hits, including 'My Shot,' 'You'll Be Back,' 'The Room Where It Happens' and 'History Has Its Eyes On You.'
